Rodin is a Group VI UFA

Didn't play enough games

Ch28 06-26-2017 02:01 PM

Signing Yak to a low cost/low term contract would be the kind of low risk/high reward signings that I expect from Benning this off-season. There's not a lot of quality UFAs to sign, and the Canucks aren't contending, so no point in dishing out huge money.

notable names missed: Garteig and Cramarossa

Rodin should stick around now that Willie's gone... might actually play

ECHL goaltender, 26 in November ... Alaska folded, so the Canucks don't even have an ECHL affiliate they can send him to; would have to send him to another team's affiliate where they likely have their own #5 getting the bulk of the starts.

As for Cramarossa, he didn't do anything in his 10 games for the Canucks. 0 points, 1 fight. His upside isn't high. No big loss.

DiPietro isn't eligible for the AHL until 2019.

Canucks needs to sign yakupov to give a reason for us fans to watch a former 1st overall pick redeem himself with goldobin hockey.

AzNightmare 06-26-2017 05:02 PM

:lol I'm sure Yakupov is interested in signing with any team willing to give him a chance. lol

highfive 06-26-2017 06:22 PM

I'm surprised Grigorenko not qualified either. I wouldn't mind giving him a contract to play. Big centre for bottom 6.

I'm not sure you would want someone that can't skate in today's game.

Nabatron 06-26-2017 07:53 PM

i would sign yakupov for just the pure upside he has...also would need a guy who would be ideal on the pp. Lets face it tho having a former first over all who is a pure sniper if given the chance should produce!

Might also help that his idol was Pavel, the reason he wears #10.

bobbinka 06-26-2017 08:39 PM

so Vegas takes Methot from the Sens.... only to flip him to Dallas for a goalie that was JUST drafted on Friday in the 7th round, and a 2020 2nd round pick.

Wtf. i'm sure Ottawa would've been more than willing to give Vegas a 7th + 2nd + whatever else they wanted, to ensure they DIDNT take Methot in the first place.

Yeah, the whole Methot to Dallas trade doesn't really make much sense.

The only thing I can think of that happened was how McPhee was too public about his intention to trade most of his defenseman away. When you come out and publicly state something like that, then it puts you in a position of weakness. He basically screwed himself.

Nabatron 06-26-2017 09:58 PM

^yeah u could see Mcphee pulled a Benning and announced to the world his fucking plan of flipping Dmen for picks...rookie mistake lol

Goalie market: there is a lot of expectation of Ryan Miller to Anaheim for approximately $1 million, although I’m not sure if bonuses will be added to that. It makes a lot of sense.
Jim Benning be like

so we're going with Markstrom/Bachman this season....? :|

Jmac 06-27-2017 12:03 PM

Is it too late to bring tank commander Willie back for another season?

Bachman played well enough to justify giving him the backup role. Canucks aren't contending for a cup, so having Miller in net actually hurts the Canucks chances of landing that coveted top 5 pick next draft. The 2018 draft is supposed to be stacked with top end talent. If you guys think you were excited this draft, wait until they land one of those stud picks next season.

Short term pain for long term gain.

spoon.ek9 06-27-2017 02:03 PM

yeah i guess that's a good way to look at it. tank early, tank all season!
