Or Blake Price/Matt Sekeres(not sure which it was) on draft day saying Liljegren could be the steal of the draft.

Fixed*

It was almost Cam Fowler-esque how Liljegren fell. Toronto I think is a good franchise for him to go to, they'll take care of him well and provide the support and what he needs to succeed.

I was really hoping Liljegren would fall to NYR at 20. They picked Filip Chytil with that pick who apparently has looked great in development camp, but it'll take years to really find out who's a steal and whatnot. Maybe there is a Jamie Benn hiding somewhere in those late round picks..

highfive 07-13-2017 11:45 AM

Good pick but doesn't mean steal of the draft. None of them are right now because season hasn't started yet. Go win the calder and I'll say he's the steal of the draft.

Hell...maybe kostin is the steal of the draft. 1st rank euro skater picked at 31.

Chaput re-signed for 1 year one way at $675k

One more year of Chaput & Megna!
Basically the twin turbos of the tank.

Honestly keep them 3rd/4th line and they'll be fine.

Competition like has never been seen before for forward spots this coming camp and they put Megna and Chaput on one way deals?! Crazy

one way just means they earn the same salary if they are sent down to AHL

doesn't affect anything else except for that. They can still be waived*/sent down whether on a 1 way or 2 way

*disclaimer assuming they are waiver-eligible. They aren't important enough for me to check lol

6o4__boi 07-13-2017 02:01 PM

both are waiver eligible

doubt anyone would claim though

highfive 07-13-2017 02:12 PM

I thought Chaput was a pretty good fourth line centre. His faceoff % was pretty good last season too. Cant never have enough big righty centres.

Jmac 07-13-2017 03:50 PM

Qualifying offer would've had to have been $0.6875M NHL and $0.385M AHL anyways.

So he got exactly what he got qualified for in the NHL, only difference is he makes more if he's sent down.

You can pretty much assume anyone who's at least 23 with more than 1 season of professional North American hockey under his belt is eligible for waivers.

I realize that, but it means they're much less likely to be sent down, which in both of their cases is a dubious proposition at best.

Guys like Chaput and Megna will be sent down. They're a dime a dozen grinders that can be easily replaced with Utica players.

Been a long enough fan that the name Nathan LaFayette brings a tear to my eye.

dbaz 07-14-2017 09:54 AM

yea theres just no chance they are on the opening roster unless theres lots of injuries

sedin-sedin granlund
bae-bo-boe
Eriksson-sutter-rodin
gaunce-burmistrov-gagner

for the following one or two f spots it leaves these players: dorsett, boucher, chaput, Virtanen, megna, goldobin, labate, Molino

murd0c 07-14-2017 10:31 AM

any word on how Dorsett is even recovering?

dbaz 07-14-2017 11:30 AM

there were reports he would be starting the season on ir, which I think is what will happen. but I haven't really seen any news on him for awhile, probably because it has the chance to be career ending

murd0c 07-14-2017 12:04 PM

I was thinking that as well, I have a feeling he might be done sadly. Hope not since he has heart and can kick some ass but it would be nice to get that cap hit off our books.

pastarocket 07-14-2017 12:45 PM

Any word on the contract talks between Dim Jim and Horvat's agent?

My guess is that the team will offer a 6 year contract extension to Bo Ho.

Jmac 07-14-2017 12:56 PM

2 x $3.5M bridge

murd0c 07-14-2017 01:12 PM

no way they are going to be giving him a bridge deal

pastarocket 07-14-2017 01:42 PM

Yeah, it makes no sense for Dim Jim to offer a bridge deal to Horvat.
A bridge deal would mean less cap room available for Dim Jim to work with in terms of signing other players.

Keep Bo Ho locked in a lower cap hit using a longer term contract, say 6 years, so that you have more cap room to work with. The league salary cap would also increase in the future.

Some comparisons between Bo Ho and other players:

What to expect in Bo Horvat?s next contract | Georgia Straight Vancouver's News & Entertainment Weekly

6o4__boi 07-14-2017 02:51 PM

Slightly less than Tyler Johnson money

but likely 6-8 years if i had to guess

dbaz 07-14-2017 03:08 PM

palat just got 5years at 5.3. i would think bo would get more than that, due to taxes here and he will probably be better in year 2/3 of a contract than palat will ever be

so probably 6mil+. anything less long term and a good job by jim
