Yea I don't recall Canadian Teams having to throw more money because taxes are higher in this country. It is what it is.

You can bet the markets with low taxes include that point when making a pitch to sign players.
Back when the Leafs were pursuing Stamkos, there was plenty of talk about overpaying to compensate for taxes: Quote:
Stamkos’ hometown Maple Leafs, due to a 53.53 per cent combined federal/provincial tax rate, would have to offer him $12.37 million annually over seven years to net the same as he’d make over eight years at $8.5 million in Tampa
| The other tactic, which really only the big market Canadian teams can utilize, is endorsements. The CEO of Canadian Tire attended the talks between the Leafs and Stamkos to help facilitate a deal.

Yeah all the best players are playing for Dallas, Florida, and Tampa Bay. They have, what, like 20 consecutive cups now?
Teams like the Rangers and the Leafs always have difficulty attracting free agents because of high taxes and high cost of living.

So peaking about tax rates. I guess yes, that's very logical. Stumbled across this article which outlines that and also lists all the tax rates for every team. https://canucksarmy.com/2017/07/12/j...and-tax-rates/

not saying its the major deciding factor, but taxes play into deal player receive, especially when receiving multiple offers

Horvat is a restricted free agent without arbitration rights. The only leverage he has is signing an offer sheet with another team, which has nothing to do with taxes.
Besides, you almost never see top free agents signing with Dallas, Florida, Nashville, or Tampa Bay despite the lower tax rates.
It should also be noted that the player pays taxes based on where the game is played, so only half of the games are taxed at his team's rate. And top players almost always re-sign with the same team regardless of tax rate.

You are saying because some of those teams are in income tax free states everyone wants to go there. Where as everyone else is saying when players sign there they seem to take less money due to having a large tax break on majority of the games in a season.

Reid Boucher settles for a one way one year at $687k
Pretty intriguing prospect/young player. He has a surprisingly high overall on NHL 17 lol

Mika Zibanejad re-signs with NYR. 5 years 5.35M AAV
No complaints from me, had a good regular season in the making (56GP, 14G 23A.) before breaking his fibula. Finished the playoffs strong with 9 points in 12 GP.
Not the #1 center NYR needs but he outperformed Stepan in both the regular and post-season for 1.15M less. Only 24 years old and has lots of development left, if he has a good off-season and stays healthy next year I don't think 60-70 points is out of the question.
I would expect similar term and $ for Horvat

Rosters for those events have already been stocked with the likes of former NHLers Max Talbot, Derek Roy, Mason Raymond, Ben Scrivens, Justin Peters, Cam Barker, Marc-Antoine Pouliot and Carlo Colaiacovo — all now playing in Europe.

I'm actually curious to see how we do. We have the most NHLers so interested to see how our B (arguably C) players do. Especially against KHL, Swedish elite etc.
Plus the Willie D factor. I'll be tuning in for sure.

Vancouver, BC - Vancouver Canucks President, Hockey Operations, Trevor Linden announced new roles within the club's Hockey Operations department today. Ryan Johnson was named General Manager of the Utica Comets and Gary Agnew joins Utica as an Associate Coach. Among the scouting staff, Brett Henning was named Director of Professional Scouting, Brian Chapman and David Volek joined the professional scouts and four Amateur Scouts were added to the staff.
"We're pleased to confirm expanded roles for Ryan Johnson and Brett Henning today and welcome Gary Agnew to the Comets coaching staff," said Linden. "Ryan's leadership and guidance with our prospects has benefitted their development. This added responsibility allows him to further monitor and support the development path of our next core from the junior to professional level."
Ryan Johnson adds Comets General Manager duties to his existing role as Director of Player Development, and joins Pat Conacher, Director of Hockey Operations, in the Utica front office. In this expanded role Johnson will continue to work closely with prospects in the system and lead the day-to-day function of Comets Hockey Operations. He originally joined the Canucks as a Player Development Consultant in 2013 and became Director of Player Development in 2016. Johnson played 210 games in a Canucks uniform over a 701 game NHL career (38-84-122).
Gary Agnew joins Trent Cull's staff as Comets Associate Coach and adds experience at the NHL, AHL and junior coaching levels. "We're excited to add Gary to a strong coaching staff in Utica," added Linden. "His experience complements our group led by Head Coach Trent Cull and Assistant Coach Jason King." He most recently worked as an Assistant Coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2015.16 season. Agnew's experience is highlighted by a head coaching role with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL, General Manager/Head Coach of the London Knights and he was twice recognized as OHL Coach of the Year.
Brett Henning becomes Director of Professional Scouting after seven seasons as a member of the Canucks scouting staff. "Brett has a strong scouting background and a proven understanding of our organizational needs. We're excited about each of these changes and believe they support our long-term goals." Henning has added David Volek and Brian Chapman to his staff, both of whom previously served as Amateur Scouts for the Canucks
The Canucks also welcomed four new Amateur Scouts adding Todd Harvey, Paul Gallagher, Doug Gasper and Vincent Montalbano to the team. Lucien DeBlois, Ken Cook and Mike Addessa have parted ways with the club.
Long-time Canucks fan favourite Harold Snepsts retires from the scouting ranks after 12 years with the Amateur Scouting staff, but remains with the club in an ambassador role. "I'd like to thank Harold for his contributions to our scouting team," said Linden. "We're thrilled to have him continue to represent the Canucks as an ambassador."
Snepsts played 12 seasons as a Vancouver Canuck and was named to the Ring of Honour (March 2011). He recorded 233 points (38-195-233) and 2,009 penalty minutes for Vancouver, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit and St. Louis over the span of his NHL career. He also served as head coach of the IHL's Peoria and San Diego and the WHL's Portland, as well as a NHL assistant coach with the St. Louis Blues immediately after his retirement from the team

Some people might laugh and think "Oh that's cute, shes saying put me in the lineup, Dad", but what they don't know is he can create some of the worst possible line combinations and he might actually fucking do it.
