Vanek might be able to surprise a few people. He's not that far removed from being offered that 7 year 50 million dollar contract in the 13-14 season when he had 44 points in 47 games. He was alright in Detroit last season too, 38 points in 48 games. Wasn't great in Florida though.
Here's to hoping he can find that spark again, if he did he could bring back something decent at the deadline

I can't see Bo being more than 70 pt player tbh
He's still young, but his production suffered when he played against top defensive pairings.
He'll be a consistent 50-60 player and maybe a few 70 pt seasons on his peak years.

It's hard to say whether the leaked news about a potential bridge deal was the Canucks or Bo's agent leaking it to use as leverage. Bo's career projection has always been on an upward trajectory, so I can't see it being any different (except for injuries) because he legitimately looks and acts like a complete pro.
The Alex Wennberg 6yr 29.4m (4.9m AAV) contract definitely helps

Should generational talents be given "exemptions" to be drafted 1 year earlier?
I like the idea too, since teams very rarely draft players straight to the roster. But lots would need to be clarified/restructured.

I think its a good idea, lets the kids mature that one year which is really needed for kids that age. I'm just wondering how it would actually work, they can't go a year with not drafting players so how could they actually change the age?

Moving up one year... I'm fine with that tbh. Tho most kids end up back in jr anyways.... Generational..
The one thing I'm curious tho is.. can a team go out there and sign an 18yr old out of the KHL who didn't enter the draft?

Let the underaged generational talents stew for another year and become uber generational talents.
Not sure if that's what you're asking, seems too simple lol.

The reason why the CHL (and other junior teams) want the draft age moved to 19 is because:
1) Obviously junior teams keep their stars longer, which means more money, better funding for development
2) World Junior Hockey Championships; Canada and other top countries lose their top players to the NHL
3) GMs have greater certainty with valuable draft picks.
You probably won't see an instantaneous move to 19; it'll probably be gradual move.
For example, you might see something like:
2017 draft: Players born September 15th, 1999 or earlier are eligible
2018 draft: Players born June 15th, 2000 or earlier are eligible
2019 draft: Players born March 15th, 2001 or earlier are eligible
2020 draft: Players born December 15th, 2001 or earlier are eligible
2021 draft: Players born September 15th, 2002 or earlier are eligible
I think GMs want to simplify the CBA a little regarding a players "age" depends on when they were drafted or signed. I think they'd prefer birth year (which applies to some players) rather than the arbitrary September 15th date. Birth year lines up better with the CHL, Canadian Junior A, IIHF leagues, etc. and it makes it less complicated when it comes to where the players can play, how many years their ELC is, when the player becomes a UFA, how many games and pro seasons are required before the player becomes eligible for waivers, etc.
It can get quite a bit more complex for players who were born between September 16th and December 31st.

With the current suite of forwards going into camp, he's got one foot in the Utica dressing room door. He'll need to bring it in ever preseason game for them to decide to keep him and send someone else away on waivers. They're not going to keep him to sit in the press box and rotate in every 3-4 games.
That's to say I don't agree with it since he clearly showed he was at least NHL-ready last year in 9 games. But if it came down to playing 40 games in the NHL vs playing an entire season of pro hockey in Utica, I think he's better served with the latter.

so bo finally signed a 6 year deal for 33mill which is of course 5.5 a year.
It was pretty funny, listening to 1040 this morning they broke the new on the deal and then I switched to 650 to see what they say about it and they came on right after saying no word on the deal yet and when a deal is going to get done. fricken comedy
