He was still a superstar after that Stevens hit but you could tell deep down inside something was always wrong. Also, I'm not impressed by TSN's production, they're trying to be like HBO/ESPN but don't do Kariya's story justice.
Joe Hicketts was undrafted..... so all 30 teams passed on him for 7 rounds.
I'm aware and then Detroit signed him 3 months later to an ELC after being better than all their 1st rounders in training camp.
He then went on to ...
- Make Team Canada's U20 WJC team twice and won a gold medal
- Win defenseman of the year award in the WHL's Western Conference
- Win MVP in the WHL's Western Conference
- Become a first team all-star
- Captain the Victoria Royals to the Scotty Munro memorial trophy
- Win the Calder Cup
- Lead said Calder Cup-winning team in defensemen scoring in both the regular season and the playoffs as a rookie
Meanwhile, Mackenze Stewart, drafted as a 19-year-old, partially-deaf, face-puncher. Started his 20-year-old season in the AHL, got sent down to the ECHL, got sent back to the WHL where his team immediately traded him so they didn't have to give up one of their other 3 20-year-olds (WHL only allows a maximum of 3 20-year-olds per team), and was a 4th liner on a non-playoff team in the WHL's Western Conference (in which 8 of the 10 teams make the playoffs). Was a 4th liner for the now defunct Alaska Aces of the ECHL and may not even make an ECHL team this season given that the league now has an extra NHL team to support and the ECHL has one fewer team.
I was saying we should draft Hicketts back in 2012. We drafted someone who is exceptionally bad at hockey instead of drafting someone who is ... you know ... good.
The 1st period was a bit of a snoozer, but the rest of the game certainly didn't disappoint. Gogolev and Walker both scored a pair and every time I watch a Royals game, I'm more and more impressed with Joe Hicketts. That kid is going to be something special.
On the Brandon side, Eric Roy and Ryan Pulock are amazing. They were a real treat to watch
I still haven't gotten a chance to see Palivka play!

Sonick is a genius. I won't go into detail what's so great about his post. But it's damn good!

Kerby Rychel also on waivers
I'd take a flyer...wasn't there some interest in him last season?
