That trade isn't as bad as it sounds when you look at it from a non-Canucks fan perspective.

Nothing against Europeans, but we need to draft NA prospects IMO.

^We have a good mix of Euro and NA prospects in the cupboard. While I would have agreed with this years ago, take the best player available regardless of nationality at this point.

I like Tanev but I just feel like we're only going to see him play half the season.

I don't know if you can pull off a seth jones for johansen or larsson for hall trade with Tanev.

I don't think liljegren is anything too great, and hes extremely overhyped due to being a Toronto prospect. People can throw his ahl stats at me, but hes playing on the best team in the AHL, mostly against bad ahl competitionn..so he should be doing something. On the other hand hes been injured a couple times already, and seemed weak in the WJs. He was also handing over the puck, and making horrible decisions during the WJs that lead to bad goals against for Sweden.
I don't think he will become good enough defensively for the NHL

Tanev is a top4 on almost any team in the league, higher on many others. He has a cheap contract with 2 years left, which the canucks could even retain.

Hes better than Hamonic even with the injury concerns and Hamonic got a first and 2 2nds from a team that already had a solid D core

he's not over hyped, at all. He was supposed to be the top D picked in last years draft but fell because he had mono. I think he would be worth a shot to trade him for Tanev.

he didn't fall only because of mono. his defensive game has a lot of issues.
similar to kylington.. when he was originally supposed to go #2 behind McDavid.. but they found deficiencies there too and then it became the eichel/McDavid story

If the Canucks trade Tanev, the already sparse blueline will be a complete shit show. Canucks need a sense of stability for the young guys. I would keep him for another year at least, and then judge whether he is expendable.

At this point, the best move is to trade Gudbranson for a pick and prospect and call it a day. Anyway we could trade Gagner as well? Would rather keep Vanek than Gagner at this point.
