I wouldn’t put much weight on that claim, Botchford is a whiny bitch and he knows about as much about what Benning is doing in his office daily as Benning knows about what kind of porn Botchford is jerking off to on the daily.

Well, Botch quoted Benning saying it ... so unless he's making up quotes ...

Benning's having fun with him then, told him he's not calling any teams... but didn't bother mentioning his emails :fullofwin:

The Provies: The Marky explanation, the JV18 explanation and the current GM situation

Quote:

We do know a few things on Benning’s situation.

For one, TL16 doesn’t believe the last few months of the season should not impact his situation, and whether the extension happens, or not.

Two, there have been ongoing “discussions” between Benning and TL16 which, let’s be real, are negotiations.

I would suggest those negotiations have concluded.

Based on this, and some other sourced evidence, I believe Linden supports Jim and wants him back.

Ultimately, however, ownership gets the final say on it and has the hammer.

And so here we are.

Waiting.

There have been suggestions the Aquilinis are waiting it out to see what their options are before they sign off on what’s next for Benning.

Many believe Holland tops the list. But, as covered here and in other places, the chances of him coming to work for team that has another hockey executive in place who is already a president.

Realistically who are we talking about then?

Who are the possibilities?

One name that has generated a lot of outside buzz when it comes to linking up with the Canucks is former Kings overlord Dean Lombardi.

Some think that makes sense because he has name and an LA background, two things that would be appealing to the Aquilinis.

But there’s nothing to wait for with Lombardi, it you really wanted him, he’s there to be had.

After Holland and Lombardi, the list gets thin if you’re looking for people with experience.

Some seem to think Bowman is in trouble in Chicago, but this seems outlandish.

But he’s there being asked about his job security, so it’s a thing.

There’s one other experienced executive on an expiring deal who would be of interest to the Canucks owners if available and that’s Chuck Fletcher.

(Not for nothing, one of his worst decisions is considered signing Vanek to a three-year deal back in 2014)

I this Fletcher would be high on the Canucks list if not at the top if they were to finally decide to make a move.

After that, you start looking at GMs who are trouble like Chiarelli and Bergevin and things get incredibly bleak real quick.

6o4__boi 02-12-2018 04:05 PM

I'd hire Bowman and Quenneville the second Chicago let's em go.

But that's not gonna happen.

I don't know how anyone can defend Holland in this cap age, guy is a shitty GM, plain and simple.

bobbinka 02-12-2018 05:00 PM

That's some shitty writing. Someone couldn't even be bothered to hit F7 in Word.

Jmac 02-12-2018 09:01 PM

Holland was a good GM in the pre-cap era that managed to field an excellent team into the cap era thanks to Lidstrom sticking around for a while, cheater contracts (Zetterberg, Franzen), and some luck in free agency (like Marian Hossa signing a 1-year, $1M deal).

Once Lidstrom and Holmstrom left and Franzen went on permanent LTIR, they became an okay but not great team. Zetterberg taking steps back thanks to age and injuries and Datsyuk leaving for the KHL were the nails in the coffin. They have some decent young players, but pissed many of them away on waivers or lopsided trades trying to stay competitive to keep the streak going. They also lost most of their best front office staff to other teams.

On top of that, they have a bunch of terrible contracts that Holland has given out, which are compounding the problems.

I don't know how much of this came down through ownership, but most of what I've read seemed to indicate that Mr. I had faith in Holland and let him run the team without interference for the most part.

murd0c 02-12-2018 10:04 PM

no matter how much I dislike a lot of the moves that Benning has made he sure has been fantastic at drafting. I want him to get resigned for that reason alone and really he made a couple great trades at last years deadline.
