| Home Reno
So parents wants to do some major Reno to the house (Getting hardwood floor, repaint the whole house, Redo the washrooms, redo the counter tops, shelf in the kitchen). One of the guys they brought in said it will take around 100k which I think is a total BS. One of our neighbour did reno recently and cost way less.
I call and have someone over on Tue to take a look. Just wondering form RS who did you guys use for Rneo and how as the cost?

You get what you pay for... especially in terms of workmanship and quality of finishing materials

100K might not be BS at all for a major reno. It all depends on the size of the house, kitchen, how many bathrooms etc.

A friend of mine paid 55k to get his whole 800 sq ft apartment renovated. 2 bed and bathroom. Finishing was above average but not high grade. 100k doesn't seem too off imo.

Hardwood floors: hardwood + labor + leveling floors for 1800 - 2000 ft house (one floor) was ~$6,000
Repaint the whole house: 300 bucks a room?
Redo the washrooms: $6000 - 20k depending what material you use.
We had to remove tub and put in shower; cost me 10k (and it was a rental property) so if you want something nicer.. then yeah...
Shelf in the kitchen: $3000 for town house
Counter tops: 3000-5000
Everything adds up. Seriously, are you going to do kitchen floors and not do cabinets? Once you do cabinets, are you still going to use your 25+ yr old coil range and 30+ yr old fan? Will u have new things and then use ur white and yellow fridge from 1998.
Bit here and a bit there, everything adds up. 80k for a house is barely do-able. Remember, whatever they quote you, add 20% to the quote. Then add another 20% for upgrades you want to do afterwards.

^^ Totally agree. Just doesn't make sense just to do countertops and cabinets and not put in new appliances. Cabinets depending on the kitchen size in a detached home will be at least 10k for material.

thanks! Got another contractor in. Price is around the same but he seems more detailed.
Doing the ground level should take about 2 weeks but the 2nd floor going to take 2 months...... I say the would project should take maybe 3 to 4 months.
