| German Brand Dealers
Hi Revscene,
Looking for opinions regarding various German brand auto dealers in the Vancouver BC area. First, I'm not rich, so I don't want to walk in and pay full msrp on a new vehicle. My question is, are BMW, Audi, Lexus willing to negotiate?
I've been reading up on various forums and it seems like our neighbors in the States are getting anywhere between 6% ~ 12% off MSRP. Will I get laughed out of the show room coming in with similar expectations?
Thanks!

Anyways sexpot, if you're not rich then you should get a pre-owned car instead of a new one. But to answer your first question, every dealership is willing to negotiate except maybe Porsche.

Most Mercedes stores are corporate owned in Vancouver. That means not nearly as much wiggle room as say a franchised BMW dealership.
Best bang for German buck, I'd say would be Audi. Second best probably be bmw as they have aggressive rates on 3 series.
Try jag. Their xe hasn't been moving much so I'd figure the rates must be pretty decent on them.

Dude if you're not rich just buy second hand or buy a vw like yray suggested. That or just buy a corolla. You'll show people how fiscally responsible you are.

Buy a car because of the car, not the logo in front.

Thanks for the input everyone. Not rich as I can go around and pick out whatever carefree. But made some good investments in real estate in the last 4 years that it would be a nice treat for my wife and I. Lexus was thrown in there as an alt to the BMW/Audi. Will probably test an IS350, but my wife already said no.
TL;DR - not interested in used, but would like a deal and not pay full price.

just use a service like unhaggle.
Save you a bit of money, but also a bunch of dealer BS.
My buddy had a great experience with this service and a new VW last year.
Note: this method is really only applicable if you know exactly what you want.

It also depends on dealer's inventory level on specific model you are looking for. For example dealer will do whatever they can to push some model they have a lot in stock, so you can get better discount or even close at dealer's cost. But for some model such as Civic Type R or M2 that dealer won't have much allocation and high demand. You will be lucky to get one at MSRP, don't even think about discount.

According to the US forums, it seems like our southern neighbours can generally expect ~5% off MSRP (from Porsche).

I think it's kinda funny when people get excited about how much they saved on something vs the value of the thing you're getting. Car A is 30,000 msrp and Car B is 35,000 with a 5000 discount and all of the sudden that means that car is better. I guess the secret is to start high and discount like those shitty jewellery shops that have 40% off year round.

It's not about the dealerships whether they are willing to negotiate on sale prices, sometimes it's the PA or managers that you speak with.

someone who wants a new, upscale vehicle can't be looking for a deal?
it's also in some cultures to try and negotiate when possible...a car purchase is definitely one of those times. If paying MSRP, maybe throw in some swags. some options. or a better warranty.
maybe Vancouver dealers are getting comfortable with people who show-up, not wanting a test drive but ready to sit-down for the transaction, no questions asked.
good luck OP, post a pic when you take delivery of it.

BMW has $3500 factory credit, 0.9% APR on MY2017 340xi right now.
You can usually get 5-7% off MSRP from the dealer.
48month/80k km. leasing residual rate is 48%
Basically cost just under $600+tax per month to lease it with the basic premium package.
FYI that's cheaper than what my brother is paying to lease his Sienna minivan, and cheaper than lease payment on a lexus is300 when i was shopping last year.
Stock is probably very limited tho since MY2018 is going hit the show room in 1 month.

Any dealer will want to move inventory that has been sitting too long for various reasons. ie. odd colors, unpopular options, base models, last model year, cancelled orders, overstock. Just lease it and let the dealer deal with it after.

BMW was more accommodating when I went to see them with Audi coming in second. Richmond Lexus was the worst as they did not want to budge on pricing.
Not quite the discount levels as you see posted on various bimmer/audi forums. But I'll take something better than nothing |

Use Unhaggle for free to see what range (below MSRP) you can negotiate. That can be your starting point if you really want to negotiate in person.
