Listen: 2017 has been a bad year. When was the last time you woke up to any good news? Well, today is your day: after an eternity of delays, TVR, the British sports car company famed for its hardcore and uncompromising performance, is back with an all-new car. And they haven’t watered anything down.

This is the new TVR Griffith. It’s the first offering from the company since it was bought by tech entrepreneur Les Edgar in 2013, and as Top Gear notes, the name itself dates back to the first Griffith that debuted in 1963 and was again reborn in 1991.

All the TVR cues are here, just modernized. The long hood, the curvaceous body, the aggressive stance. (I don’t think it’s quite as striking as the 2000s TVR Tuscan, one of my favorite sports car designs ever, but I’ll take what I can get.)

But it’s what is under the hood that really counts: a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 from the Ford Mustang, here tuned by Cosworth for 500 horsepower in a package that weighs just 2,755 lbs. Zero to 100 mph (yes, mph) is said to be just six seconds, per Top Gear. And it’s done with a real manual gearbox.

The first production cars are expected to launch in 2019, and it’s not immediately clear what international distribution will look like. Expect supply to be limited.

Still! This is a wonderfully analog and pure sports car, the kind of sports car we all pine for but rarely see in 2017. And TVR, of all companies, is here to bring it to us. I can’t wait to see more.

Kinda reminds of a Viper, hopefully it's a quality product.

ZN6 09-08-2017 01:23 PM

fun fact: TVR is short for Trevor.

That gearbox looks so tiny for the amount of girth the stick has. :ahwow:

Looks like Toyota FT concept and a Viper had some really really good sweaty sex.

TVR and quality? Lol. Doesn't stop me from wanting one though. Hell yes.

white rocket 09-08-2017 03:45 PM

It reeks of Ford(vents, signal arm, etc). Still cool looking though.

Digitalis 09-08-2017 03:51 PM

i wonder just how much of this car is ford mustang. engine aside, i can see my windshield is the same thing, and i suspect the rear glass is the same as well. the side mirrors are from the euro spec version. not sure where the steering column comes from... it's got some sort of block out plate for where the key should be going in.

Looks incredible.
Are TVR the cars that are famous for just being fucking deathtraps though?

tegra7 09-08-2017 11:00 PM

Roof and back end looks just like the new Viper.

I always loved the TVRs, but seriously that interior is a mess.

I must be one of the few that never gets the appeal of a TVR...the Internet makes them sound like unreliable junk and the design of their modern stuff are material we would fail Timpo over. I'm willing to change my mind if I ever get to sit in one.

The Sagaris will always be the TVR for me lookswise handling wise etc

When asked to confirm whether or not the Griffith would come to the U.S., Edgar responded that the company would “love the idea” of bringing it here, it just needs a strong U.S. partner first. That shouldn’t be terribly difficult, since TVR isn’t exactly an unknown name in this country.

Is the frame carbon?

Pretty cool either way. Basically a full blown cage/tube chassis hidden in there. I want TVR so bad, despite is constant mishmash of OEM used parts and poor fitment. They are just so good.
