Do i have a case? (sign behind a sign)

So yah, I don't venture much into the North Delta area but got busted doing a right turn onto 72nd ave from 113st.

I didn't see that 'NO RIGHT TURN' sign at all... maybe because it was 7am and i was bleary eyed?

OR..just maybe it appears to be behind the STOP SIGN?!!!

... should I contest? or just GTFO and pay it?

that's pretty shitty placement tbh
do you have dashcam footage?

on the flip side, it's still your responsibility to look out for these signs, and people can argue that if you had made the full stop and looked around, you should've seen the sign

what did the ticketing officer say?

That sign seems like it would be a lot better placed under the stop sign, hard to say how it would go in court though.

i would contest
regardless, doesn't make much sense to restrict no r-turns in a 2 hour window...it's certainly not a safety issue like no turning on reds and if it's to prevent bottlenecks...wouldn't left-turn only make it worse?

Looks like that would be his only choice. Can't go straight.

Delta is just as messed as their police force.

Their motto should be, "Gladly Fucking People Over Since Being Incorporated."

Just came across this........ has nothing to do with the thread, but interesting nonetheless.

Spoiler!

No. Look at where it is and the direction: 72nd Ave. heading toward Hwy. 91.

It's pretty much the second-last street before 91... that time of the morning, not only will 72nd westbound be backed the fuck up to Scott Rd, but there are probably dozens if not hundreds of cars who think they're going to be clever and duck through that whole little residential area between 113th and 116th, to cut in at the last moment and save themselves a couple minutes.

Most likely, the sign was put up after residents of that neighborhood complained about the glut of traffic zipping through every morning.

^ I second Soundy's post people duck through small streets there to cut line.

Also people turn down 72a southbound since it runs parallel to 72 and cut in further down.

There are sometimes cops parked down there waiting for scumbags who think they're clever.

I know you said youre not familiar with the area but the cop could argue that when you come to a complete stop at the stop sign you are supposed to look both ways before making a turn, in which you should've seen the no turn sign effective Mon-Fri 6-9 am

The placement isn't good but there's nowhere else they could place it, wouldn't make sense to place it before the stop sign.

I'm all for enforcement there because it makes it fair for the rest of people taking that route in the morning.

And for MG1's post I've actually had nothing but pleasant dealings with Delta Police. They're a force that are good at keeping Surrey crime out, and actually care about their citizens. I've been cut breaks by them before, unless you're a gangbanger or not a citizen they might be a little more by the book.

Plus, here's the what the Street View cars look like:

The camera is a good 6-7' high, and it still sees the "no right turn" sign below the height of the stop sign:

If you couldn't see that sign from your driver's seat, you're blind, or just not paying attention.

The only way to make this case would be to provide a photo FROM THE POSITION OF YOUR DRIVER'S SEAT showing the sign is obscured... but I don't think that's possible unless you drive a monster truck.

That goes to York Cres., but interestingly, Street View (as of June 2015) doesn't show a "no right turn" sign there, or on 115th St. (as of July 2015), for that matter... which just reinforces the belief that the sign on 113th is there because of residents' complaints.

We have people constantly pulling U-turns in the mouth of our street and in our driveway because they can't turn left into a nearby on-ramp... so we asked the city if anything could be done about it, and they put a sign up on our street. It helps a LITTLE bit...

Care to explain why? Considering they subscribe to the "No call too small" philosophy I find them more commendable than your average RCMP/VPD etc.
