im gonna look into merino wool tubes, seems like it works good for a lot of people from what ive read. thanks

They're pretty close, the measurements are something like 172-140-158. The shop had to use the biggest brakes they had and then bend them outwards a bit just to fit. Despite looking a lot like giant popsicle sticks they actually work really well outside of powder. They're insanely light for the size and handle groomers and crud without a problem. The only thing they suck at is dense powder at warmer temps. There's so much surface area to pick up snow on top that your knees get thrashed trying to move it around.

That and I feel like a bit of a goob standing in line with them waiting for the chairs that only have green/blue runs trying to move around the mountain.

Going up to big white tmr, just picked up first snowboard, as previously I've always used Whistler's rentals: Burton LTRs. I'm trying to thread in the screws from the binding to the board, but it keeps getting stuck. Given my experience of stripping heads, should I just pb blast the board? TIA

Did the provided screws that came with the bindings have some blue or red goop on them? If so, that's loctite; a compound which helps prevent the screws from loosening. It may take a little extra effort to screw in, but not substantially more.

Nope it had rust. I made a stop at Orchid Peaks' Sportschek and tried to pickup new screws for the Burton Pro Custom mounting plates. But since it's non standard screws, they directed me to the One Boardshop. Ended up buying a set of new mounting plates + screws.

I did end up pb blasting the holes LOL. Aside from making everything stink, luckily, the screws aren't loose. But as a precaution, I brought along a set of hand tools LOL.

Sportschek might still have a sale. Check out the board shops on 4th (the boardroom, Pacific boarder, west coast sports, etc), they might have a wider variety of sales and sizes, but it might be a little more pricy.

I would not cheap out on the boots and helmet. You can probably save some money buying a used board. If money isn't too much of an issue, I'd get new bindings too.

I got my board + 2 sets of bindings for $300 on Craigslist. Boots was $200 before tax at Sportschek (this was sale price). Don't remember how much my helmet was, but I got that from MEC.

What a fucking nightmare yesterday. Was suppose to go up to manning park, but Allison pass was closed Saturday AM so my friend and I decided fuck it just do cypress. What a huge mistake. Was a bit behind waiting for my friend to show up, so we were going to get there for opening.

Well.... we got stuck half way up cypress bowl road at 9am in gridlock traffic. Took us until 10:20am to get parked at the farthest end of the 3rd lot. We took my RS so you can imagine after over an hour of gridlock UPHILL my clutch was smelling to high heavens. Was so unhappy about that man. We have our own gear so no rentals (thank god). Mountain was packed so bad with noobs. I’m not saying I’m good, I’m green/blue runs but people who can’t merge in lift line ups, people who can’t get on the chair lift, all that Jazz.

Lion lift was taking 10-15 minutes in line, eagle was about 25 minutes. So fucked and really ruins the day. Not going to go weekend again. Icing on the cake took 2:25hrs to get from Taylor way to Richmond. So done with this city

Costco usually has good helmets/goggles/gloves, for boots/skis/board/bindings I'd check Craigslist or second hand shops. If someone is just starting out they're better off starting on cheaper gear and saving their money to get better stuff in the future once they get a feel for what kind of stuff they want to ride.

Today was a damn great day at Whistler. 60cm of snow!

Mountain opened late, 10AM, due to avy control. Alpine didn't fully open due to winds but that's okay, stayed more mid-mountain for less winds. Avy cannons were still going all day, even at 2PM!

Whistler patrol throwing hand charges as low as Dave's. I've never heard of explosive control that low before. Ski cuts on the Red side were happening right up until 10 AM.

I stayed on Blackcomb. Got 7 laps of Crystal which is pretty outstanding all things considered. I'm wondering how I can possibly duck out of work tomorrow...

Line-ups were a little cuckoo because they didn't open the mountain until 10AM. Too much snow, too much avalanche danger. Here's the base of Whistler. But once you got up it wasn't too bad.

Has anyone been to stevens pass or summit at snoqualmie? I definitely don't need the size of whistler if it means there aren't 950 billion people in the line for peak chair so they can be first to side slip West bowl and do two hours worth of snow removal on their first track.
I grew up snowboarding at stevens pass. Tons of snow there fairly big resort. Much bigger than cypress but obviously not as big as whistler. The only thing is no wi-fi but that didn't bother us 15 years ago. Don't know how that would work out now. I haven't been there since i moved to van. Snoqualmie is really crappy. Just bunny hills because it's relatively low elevation.

Yup we went there a few weeks back. Make sure you have snow tires or chains as sometimes the road is a little dicey.

Other than that, it's a good little mountain with snow. Definitely recommend the black run "Heaven" on the left most-side of the mountain, always good fun if it has fresh powder.

Only really two chairs worth using on the mountain, we tend to use the Sasquatch chair if the wind isn't too bad, if it's windy we head over and stay on the Skyline chair.

Any other questions?
