| Doorbell with camera and monitor
I been looking at a few different options for a doorbell with camera and monitor capability.
Has anyone recently bought and installed one? It seems like buying one online is the way to go as the quotes I've obtained from home security companies are astronomical.
I do like this one I saw on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ESRNXTMJWN643D
But of course its not available.

I have one... it came with the new house. kinda neat except i hardly use it since i also have a security camera looking down onto front door area. i'll post pix later.
but..its neat..when doorbell rings, the video monitor activates showing me the front. for night time, it shines out a bright white LED to lighten up the face.

With those app related doorbells, not everyone carries their phone around. But have a main hub area (living room)
Funny thing, local alarm installer quoted me $700 for a product that sells for $300 on amazon.
Still doing research.

Optex ivision is wireless so you can have the home base (charging area) as well as carry it around like a portable phone say if you're doing work in the backyard etc.
Decent little product. Could probably find an online reseller.

Still doing research. | If you have an Apple TV or Chromecast or Google Home or Amazon Alexa - the app will show on your main TV. It's pretty damn cool. Will also alert you via Google Home/Amazon Echo if you have one of the little in-home speakers.
And I have my phone with me 99% of the time - how else do you browse RS while on the throne?

I ordered the Skybell HD
Doing some research I know I have to some extra work for installation. I need to find get that adapter to connect it to my current digital doorbell/intercom.
I might be getting in over my head for this install.

I might be getting in over my head for this install. | Good luck, I use a Ring Pro, install had it's challenges but overall it wasn't too difficult. I basically followed the video provided by Ring. Maybe Skybell has an install video as well?

I see your point.
Check this out though.
The install video by both Ring and Skybell is less than 5 minutes.
Actual install is two or three times longer than that and they skip the digital chime part altogether. Next, these doorbells are incompatible with digital chimes. You need to buy extra hardware. I ended up returning the Skybell and ordered a nestcam outdoor.
Theres a promo going on! $70 off and you get a free google home mini. https://store.nest.com/ca/product/ou...amera/NC2100EF

Isn't Ring useless without cloud subscription to record videos? Without it, it's like a regular door bell telecom...

I have the original Ring and it sucks balls. Totally useless. I invested in two plug-in ringers, too. When someone rings and you're home it's okay, but when you're away from home and want to answer the ring, forget it. By the time you respond, they're long gone. WiFi signal strength and power are at max, but it's just stupid slow. Motion detector is finicky, as well. I put up with it. They've introduced newer versions, but not going to pay more if the performance isn't much better. And yes, I subscribe to their cloud service. I'm one of those early adopters of technology. Sometimes you're the Louisville Slugger, sometimes you're the ball. Not proud of this decision....................
Is Nest any better? Others?

I've had great experiances with my nest thermo, would buy a door bell, however i already have security cameras facing the front door
the novelty of the constant monitoring wears off pretty quick and in reality you will only ever look at the footage if somthing was to happen
