Star Wars: The Last Jedi discussion. Contains spoilers. My questions/thoughts: spoilers! Abandon hope, all ye who enter! ........... .................... ................................ ................................................. Didn't Carrie Fisher die in real life? How did she finish this movie? WTF, Yoda burns down the tree temple, says Rey doesn't need the books. Knows that Rey stole the books. What a troll. What's more, Rey is going to be self taught now?! Maybe she'll have more force visions. I really like the explanation of the force though. LOL, Leila living out in space! Snoke was a pretty shitty Sith lord by dying so easily, no character development, his death meant nothing. even more LOLs, Emo darth claims supreme ruler. Rebellion is in shambles, GG, literally 300ish people against a Galaxy worth of Empire. Snoke says that he bridged Rey's and Darth's vision together, last scene they share a vision even though Snoke is dead. WTF is going on with this franchise. Asian girl had pretty bad acting. Her dead sister could have been a better character for this movie. Though, as a technician, I suppose she fits the bill. Cinematography was spot on during the last planet scenes. |
1) Yes, filming and CG (I assume?). The CG parts were much better than the last movie! (if they were actually CG, I don't actually know) 2) Teaching Luke that he doesn't have to be the superhero, like he was in the Lucas Star Wars movies. That is the whole theme of this movie, going away from old school swashbuckling heroes, to realistic characters dealing with problems. It's a modern and better way to make this type of movie, IMO. 3) The Force is With Her 4) I guess he was the best they had after getting rid of Vader and the Emperor. Hard times for both sides 5) K 6) Yup how all Rebellions start. A small faction says hey enough is enough, and more people get the balls to join and fight. 7) He joined them. Now they're joined. 8) I thought Rose Tico was awesome! Not just another Pretty Face, but more like the engineer you'd see in a cool Anime or something. Absolutely perfect casting. Her sister was just a Pretty Face, though she did well in her scene 9) I agree The movie wasn't perfect, but I thought it did an amazing job of moving away from the same tropes that have existed for DECADES, yet still remain a Star Wars Movie. IMO they successfully took the franchise, and modernized it for this time and age. Compared to most of the Superhero movies, it looks modern and fresh, and they look outdated and dull. Not in a cool retro way either. |
Retro plot. Protagonist starts out in a dessert or isolated planet. Gets found, does a spaceship chase scene. Has to recruit help or find out info at a tavern. Space laser to blow up planets. Like Kenobi/Yoda, Luke merges with the force. Force projection was new though. I don't think they did that in any of the Star Wars films or TV shows. Maybe there's more similarities. But I feel there isn't much original story, but a rehash. I would like to see more next level manipulation mindbending plot. Like, Gone Girl, or Prisoners. I wonder if the rebellion will use child soldiers. That would be a good ethical dilemma point. About Kerri Fisher, I think when she died, thought they said, they wouldn't CG her, after the Tarkin backlash. I couldn't tell the difference though, I thought she was real throughout. I felt the Fin escape pod scene where she remembers her sisters dead, didn't really feel authentic. I mean, there could have been way more emotion if she was really that close with her sister. |

the movie was entertaining. The Skywalker bloodline can end and pave a direction. but who the fuck is Snoke u build up Snoke, and he just dies.. very similar to how Vader kills Palpatine but still.. that was disappointing |
Carrie died after principal filming was completed, not during. |
I hated how the Admiral lady took over and didn't tell them her plan... why not? No reason whatsoever to hide that information from anyone! Half the damn movie got burned up with Finn and his new love going away to a planet and then sneaking onto the ship to deactivate a tracking device (which, for some reason, looks like a nuclear reactor instead of just a computer of some sort???) and it was all because that lady just wanted to pretend they had no plan............ for, again, absolutely no reason!!! Also, her do nothing character had the best death ever, hyper-spacing through their fleet. Not like Luke, wtf was that bullshit. Looking at the sun and then disappearing after getting tired from projecting himself? And we're supposed to believe that he's so powerful that Kylo, with all his abilities, couldn't detect that it wasn't really him? Come on.......... Ice wolves appearing and looking so cute for no other reason but to, inexplicably, wait for the rebels to follow them..... cuz you know animals love to spirit guide humans to places right? God... I could go on forever.... oh and the "chrome dome" joke... har har har that's the best they can come up with? Also, Captain Phasma is just about the worst super villain character I've ever witnessed in a movie... ate shit after like 2 minutes of screen time in Force Awakens and does fucking nothing in this movie too... but is marketed outside the movie as this big scary character... OK I'm goign to stop there, it's making me too angry. I felt like the whole movie was made for really stupid people, no nuance whatsoever, every point was like "Hey... hey... did you see what I did there?? Pretty cool huh?" in your face kind of bullshit like a comedian with bad timing waiting for a reaction from the audience before he continues. Also agree with previous posters that Snoke was pointless and utterly useless. |
Another thing popped into my head talking to my neighbour this morning... they STARTED the movie with this awesome new dreadnaught ship, kick ass!, and then proceed to have a "Can you hear me now?" slapstick humour bit making the fleet commander look like a complete fucking fool... seriously? Starting a movie about the "Last" Jedi with a Verizon commercial that might be funny to an 8 year old? I didn't even get 30 seconds into the damn movie before I was like "WTF?" and looking around me to my friends and they were doing the same thing. DUMB. |

dude.. i love star wars, i have issues with some of the odd plot choices, but u just seem angry because it isn't what you imagined |
Angry because this movie had no substance in plot. It's near marvel movie for eye candy and story line. That's about it. |
:troll: |
anyone find it strange too the sith lord had no idea the light saber laying next to him was gonna go off?....yet he had the powers to carry someone half way the entire room & even have the empathy to know whats going on with the person in front of him what they're feeling?. it's like what he fuck....Are they gonna show the light sabors go off in a sith lords belt to kill them now....damn jedi powers increasing! |
In my mind, it was masked by the feelings that Kylo would had, as if he was really going to kill Rey with the lightsaber. The way that he died though was disappointing, totally anticlimatic. About the hyperspace into the star destroyer thing. If it was so easy to blow up such a big ship with that tiny ship, why aren't they kamikazing any junker they can find into these star destroyers. Then again, that tiny ship was the flagship of the rebellion, so I guess they didn't have many of them to throw at star destroyers. |
Just saw it. Good movie but a few gripes about it in general - 9:50 showtime, didn’t start until 10:22. That’s fucked up. Like $36 for two damn tickets, how dare they spend A HALF HOUR OF COMMERCIALS before the movie stars - felt the movie was about an hour too long - hated the lead Asian girl. Maybe I’m a cynical cunt but just like the other Asian Jedi guy, just felt shoehorned in to appeal to the asian market - saw it in avx real 3D Dolby atmos whatever. Horrible movie experience. Picture was dim, the 3D gave me a headache (has never happened before), the audio was totally out of whack, too much treble/highs. And the parts that were heavily depthful for the 3D felt like it ran 10 FPS. Good movie, I’ll enjoy a second viewing at home. For now though I think I’m done with theatres |

Honestly, a lot of what they're saying of what the film should have been is what made them great in the past. I was really hoping that this film would be the slam dunk to the Force Awakens alley oop, but nope. I think I'm done with how Disney has handled this franchise. |
:troll: |
The worst Star Wars I’ve seen. That sub plot just to have Finn/Rose/Poe have something to do was so fucking boring...Disney has ruined this series...adding those cute owl like birds was so pointless and obvious they did it to just sell merchandise to kids. Spoiler! |
Agreed. I almost fell asleep during the casino side story. Totally broke the cadence/tempo of the story. |

I enjoyed the movie. I am no critic and I tend to enjoy most movies anyway. I mean, I don't pay money to piss myself off and find plot holes. I watch Nostalgia Critic if I want to know the plot holes and opinions from the more dedicated bunch. The little bits of humour is good, though I don't have high standards for jokes so I don't know what other people think. Luke gave me the "get off my lawn" old man vibe when he first showed up. Agreed that the movie kinda stretched on when I thought it would end. Not in a bad way, of course. Also agree on the fact that the Asian girl felt a bit like a long-minute thought. Gotta catch up on the first tiny bit I missed at some point, LOL. |

If she was a true leader she wouldn't give up her life when she could have commanded any of the droids, even three-pee-o to pilot the ship. Then again she simply said "I like that one! (with a chuckle)" to Poe after he committed mutiny and almost jeopardized the entire resistance so what do I know. EleGiggle |

In episode 1, the clankers, beige basic fighting droids pretty much walked, fell over, and shot off target. I think the droids in the star wars universe can go on autopilot, just not for fancy flying, landing, or take off. The hard parts of piloting a ship. If it's basic highway style driving, even the cars today can do that. |
BB8 was able to drive an AT-ST, so I'm sure droids are more than capable of piloting a ship to go straight at warp speed. |
Yup, driving a two legged walker the same as flying a ship that bends space and time are the same. Apples to apples comparison.[/sarcasm] lol JK If humans can fly that ship, I'm sure droids could have flown it straight. It doesn't even have to make sense in these new star wars, they could have put a droid in that ship instead of holdem or whoever her name was, and no one would have said anything. |

MaREY Sue, perfect light saber technique with no training, able to move objects at least Yoda had Luke doing hand stands and training at Dagoba. |
