cars people keep for 15 years

https://jalopnik.com/these-are-the-c...ars-1821914343

Quote:
iSeeCars.com analyzed over 650,000 used cars from model years 1981-2002, sold between January through November 2017. For each model, the number of cars sold by the original owner was expressed as a percentage of the total number of cars sold. “Original-owner” cars were bought as new by the owner. The models were then ranked by the original-owner percentage. Models with fewer than 100 cars sold or which were no longer in production as of the 2017 model year were excluded from the analysis.
i remember looking for a gen 1 highlander a few years ago, for sucha mass produced 10 year old car there sure were barely any on the market...4runners, tacos and land cruisers didn't fare any better

my little bone stock acura is going on 13 years from the lot

surprised vw golf and Nissan frontier made the list....how come zero Lexuses and Porsches though

this list is meaningless...cars that aren't on the list isn't necessarily less reliable than the ones that are.

Garbage analysis, and misleading

How many Porsches actually stay with the first owner? A clear majority of Porsche owners (who buy them new) have the money and interest to buy the next best thing that comes along. This is even stronger in occurrence with BMW/Mercedes/Audi/Lexus etc.

This list is more like a compilation of cars that are pretty reliable for people who are happy with their old car (that they bought new) until it breaks down for good. I know quite a few people like that.

How's that possible, did they build less than 1500 EP3's worldwide?

Thought there was a 25 year rule for collectors unless limited production? Even 1997 itr isn’t eligible for collector plates yet.

From ICBC's website:

Quote:
To qualify, your vehicle must be one of the following:
1) 25 years or older

2) A limited production vehicle
- 15 years or older, and
- 1 of no more than 1,500 of that make and model (not edition) produced worldwide by the manufacturer for that model year.

3) A discontinued vehicle
- 15 years or older, and
- A manufacturer that owns the "trademark" or "make" of that vehicle has ceased manufacturing vehicles of any kind for at least the last five years.
I don't think an EP3 qualifies.

Yeah and Limited Production means make & model, not "edition"

IE:
Make: Acura
Model: Integra

Type-R is an "edition" of an Integra.
They definately made more than 1500 integras worldwide, so not qualified.

i'll check with my insurance. they asked me if i wanted to get it because it is still in original form. they told me someone got it on there's.

but i wasnt ready to drive it a few times a month.

They have not made a hatch since the Ep3 till present though.

I've found some insurance agents not really 100% knowledgeable about the whole collector plate system. I've had one in the past feed me some BS and get my hopes up about getting collector plates for the Mustang even after telling them "I think it's too modified to qualify", only to be told "Yep you're right, it's too modified".

You can drive your car as much as you want with collector plates, just never to work or school.

Eligibility for collector plates for me became moot anyways because on sunny summer days you bet I wanted to be able to take my car to work.

Simple explanation: Toyota owners, just like Toyota vehicles are boring, efficient yet extremely logical people that keep their cars for a long time.

To refer to Great68's quote again,
1) EP3 is less than 25 years old
2) they definitely made more than 1500 7th generation Civic hatches worldwide
3) Honda has not ceased production of vehicles (doesn't mean cease producing EP3)

sooooo if my 97 integra isn't able to get collectors, your EP3 isn't able to lol

Didn't someone on here get collector plates for his '93 GS-R, well before the 25years?

again, by the books the EP3 won't be eligible
but some agents are clueless, we've seen an Integra GS-R with CP before
that or they were more lax before, or changed the wording on the criteria

^ICBC grants collector status, not the agents. You have to send in pictures of your car with the application for ICBC to review and scrutinize.

Didn't that model have the rare B17A or whatever it was, and released in very limited numbers?

Yes. My point is that it's still an Integra, just a special trim not a different model.

I'm just glad ICBC finally changed the year of eligibility for modified collectors. Now I'm good to get cheap insurance on my '71 Corolla.

In regards to the thread topic:

If it ain't broke......

I have no desire to keep up with the Jones. My 25 year old Civic does the job of beater/commuter, just fine - as does my 15yo truck and wife's 10yo car. If and when they become more trouble than they're worth, I'll think about getting something else. Til then, I'll enjoy putting the extra money in investments, vacations and toys.

Just FYI, you can get collector plates but then pay normal full insurance and still use your car for school and work. The benefit is that you can change your policy to the ‘collector style’ pleasure only cheapo insurance whenever since its already on collector plates

Yes. My understanding is they changed the rules shortly after so that it wasn't 1500 editions or trim levels but the total production of the vehicle.

I wonder if the 92-93 GSR owner got his plate grand fathered. It was Aztec green if I recall.

bcrdukes: Yes the B17A only came in the GSR and production numbers were low but of course they produced plenty of 90-93 Integra in all trims.
