Isn't 68style referring to highway mileage expressed in L/100km? Or am I missing something here?

I don’t get how it works.
Here’s the car at idle. How can it be the same as if it’s going 100km/h. That gearing is nuts with 10 speeds.

I don't understand what you're looking at to determine your milage. The range? That's based on average driving habits stored in the computer x what's left in your tank. It isn't real time calculation.

I didn't realize until your second pic that you are revving 1200rpms at 102km/h..... wtf

My 318i is geared way too short.

I think he's looking at idling RPM vs cruising RPM. In his highway pic, I kept looking for the L/100KM estimate but I don't think that is what's being compared... :fulloffuck:

westopher 09-26-2022 07:55 PM

Ahhh I get it. I thought he was wondering how his milage was the same whether sitting at idle or going 100k.

Badhobz 09-26-2022 08:19 PM

Ohh no no my bad. I always use the range display. I didn’t put on the L/100km real time display.

I was just wondering how it’s possible to have the cars engine basically at idle when it’s going at 102km/h. The gearing is absolutely insane.

I did the real time display and it was showing 5L/100km when it was going on the highway.

I don't buy that explanation. Do we not get most of our gas from Alberta? We have pipelines operating.

I seem to think we get the majority of our gas from US refineries, a good chunk of the rest from Alberta, but I don't remember what the split is. The Burnaby refinery also do a bunch of green or green-ish gasoline refining from renewable sources, and supplies it to the Lower Mainland market. (Is that why our Chevron 94 gas is so crappy?)

But "majority" could be anywhere betewen 51% - 99%.

Yes... I often see them post these incredible average mpg numbers after highway cruises haha.. like 40+ mpg in some cases.

10 speed transmission is pretty amazing.

Time to get myself a 7sp Beetle

68style 09-27-2022 08:15 AM

^ Agreed, you can pay for it selling rides at the stock and n00b meat

Badhobz 09-27-2022 10:09 AM

Turbo beetle !!!! Better than 911!?!? :accepted:

Oh wait. You probably mean the 911 in your post.

Kind of funny, for the last year or so I noticed that my F150 was getting inexplicably worse gas mileage by about 1L/100km. From ~16 when we first bought the truck to ~17 over the last year.

Then it dawned on me. Usually I swap the giant tow mirrors off for the stock mirrors after we put the trailer away for the winter... But last year I was lazy and didn't bother.

The wind resistance of the mirrors is literally eating 1L/100km!

68style 09-27-2022 12:48 PM

It's like people who drive year round with giant racks/roof storage! Literally burning money lol

Except 320icar he's way too smart for that

So you're saying I should remove my mirrors.

Someone stole your roofrack?

68style 09-27-2022 02:35 PM

* Attempted to / wrecked in the process

320icar 09-27-2022 04:34 PM

Still waiting to hear back from icbc on that. Sent them like 35 photos of all the scrapes and dents. No response other than “your claim is open”

Rent cap is only 2% yet there's no cap for gas price:pokerface::fulloffuck:

CorneringArtist 09-27-2022 07:37 PM

These price spikes make me glad my year of GTI can use 87 and fuel economy stays the same. An 87 tune exists for more power, so I'm tempted to get that to compensate LOL.

I was curious so I just took some measurements. The towing mirrors have nearly a full extra square foot of surface area over the stock ones. Plus the fact that they stick out an extra 4 inches per side (or up to 8" per side when fully extended) probably adds massive amounts of extra turbulence.

I mean it makes sense, just never occurred to me it would be that significant.

donk. 09-27-2022 08:27 PM
