JDM Subarus: Too Good To Be True?

TLDR: Are the JDM Foresters on Craigslist too good to be true?
And, can a JDM Forester use most of the same parts as a USDM Forester?
Thanks!

Hi All,
I am having to move to Kelowna for work, and I am thinking my '02 SiR won't cut it in the winters. I started looking at 2000-2010 Subarus, mainly Foresters, thinking they would still be fun to drive, but much more practical in the snow. Looking at used car ads, you cannot help but notice low mileage JDM imports for very reasonable prices. So, are those JDM cars too good to be true? Or, is it worth it to check them out (I would get a full inspection, compression and leak-down test done before making any purchase)?
Thanks for your time, if there is anything you think I should look for, or should avoid, I appreciate your feedback.

for the KMs part, most jdm cars stay within the city so they don't drive long distances as much as us in North America. This can be a negative though as the car goes through more heat cycles on the engine.

You don't need to change vehicles just because Kelowna gets slightly more snow. Just get good snow tires and you'll be fine. People drive lowered VW's to the ski hill here so a Civic won't have a problem in town.
