Diamond Rally

Hey guys,

Long time lurker here. Just coming out of the woodwork to see if any of you have attended the Diamond Rally before? Just wanted to get your thoughts on it (good or bad).

Thanks!

As an outsider, it feels like a bunch of rich people showing off. But hey I guess I’m just jealous.

lets go!

maybe RS can sponsor us with banners and $14 ballah decals

320icar 04-05-2018 04:08 PM

If a GLA45/CLA45 AMG is allowed in, I say my RS should be too

LP700-4 04-05-2018 04:52 PM

Would you really want to go though? With all the super ballin people there I wouldn't be surprised if they look at you differently if you're driving one of the cars that are "barely scraping by" the requirements :okay:
It seems like a great event though, with good intentions.

320icar 04-05-2018 05:02 PM

Would I want to? Hell no. I’m waiting another 20 years so I can go on classic events like the spring thaw. You know, events that don’t require a LIST of acceptable cars. That’s a great way to keep unique cars out

haha I recently just got my first AMG (C63S) and it qualifies for the rally which is the only reason im considering it..but in a sea of lambos and ferraris it'll look out of place

Badhobz 04-05-2018 05:38 PM

I went before when I first got my maz. The people aren't bad. Once you're able to throw money around like confetti , little things don't matter so much. They won't judge you, but they might be out of touch with reality. 10k for dinner !? What a deal !!

Raid3n 04-05-2018 06:21 PM

lol, not only does your car have to be on a list, but you have to pay 700$ as a private driver, too? haha. i guess if you have one of those cars, that falls out of your pocket if you sneeze..

yeah, definitely wouldn't participate even if my truck was acceptable hahaha.

Harvey Specter 04-05-2018 07:36 PM

Waste of money imo.

I read what you get out of in; couple meals, some passes to some show (worth $250 supposedly), other useless shit... But, you get to be a part of the opening cocktail party. Now, I don't regularly attend formal "cocktail party's" but if the "cocktails" are free... I could easily make that $700 worthwhile.

Raid3n 04-05-2018 08:44 PM

that makes one of us, lol.

yray 04-06-2018 07:56 AM

sponsor yray to diamond rally

my car is rare enough :troll:

only 3 in vancouver including me

SkunkWorks 04-06-2018 08:48 AM

Rather spend the $1k at Equinox - I'll see the same chicks there anyway.

jackmeister 04-06-2018 09:07 AM

Might as well donate 700 directly to the charity of your choice. You save gas AND get a tax receipt!

prudz 04-06-2018 10:21 AM

You can always just go and walk around the lot at the dealership before all the cars head out. It is pretty wild to see all the cars parked there. Some really cool cars show up.

Cman333 04-06-2018 10:23 AM

I went last year with a couple clients cars. It's quite fun if you're into cars. Nice to see so many cars together, then get on the Pemberton airport strip and do some legal fun drag racing. Mind you we didn't partake in any parties. Yes it's a bunch of rich people showing off and driving their baller cars, but pretty much every car rally is similar.

You get to meet some pretty nice people. Alot of people are actual hardcore car enthusiasts. Yes they may be way out your league, but still fun and cool experience. Last year there were GTR's, 1x Mustang GT, a few M3's. So not every single car is an exotic. I'm sure there are exceptions.

Hate to say it, but I'd chose this organized rally over the unorganized meets that end up with people fighting or drawing cops.

Obviously Revscene meets trump them all ;)

Honestly you don't HAVE to register to attend the rally. I signed up 2 cars, but we had 4 cars. There's a ton of car spotters/photographers that come. Even just showing up at the starting line event is really cool. Police shut down the street. You can easily drive with the pact. Then the group stop off at some casino in Squamish, so you can park along the highway and join the activites. Then they make their way to Pemberton Airport. That's where you need to have wristbands to get in. You could still spectate from outside the gates. So if you want to partake and not pay just go down and join up until Pemberton. I warn people that there are a TON of cars and finding parking at each venue is challenging.

It's not as bad as people make it seem. Most the people attending are older businessmen. So it's pretty chill. So you don't get as much BS as you would with the old Thurs night meets. It's only the "new money" guys that tend to drive like douche bags. But they all tend to get impounded along the way. It's pretty entertaining! lol

Thought of this scene from fast and furious LOL

Paul Walker- "Nice car, what's the retail on one of those?"

Ferrari owner- "More than you can afford pal, Ferrari"

I didn't feel that way. Ultimately everyone drives to a location and gets out to walk around. So you never really know who owns what car anyways. I don't think people should be discouraged to go to check it out. I used to feel that way about it before my first time going. But I think it's just a defense mechanism people have being surrounded by people/cars "out of your league". If you just want to go a see the cars, then go and see the cars. The people you will barely talk to anyways. Everyone just kind of sticks to the people they know. It's not much different from going to the Vancouver Auto Show or Luxury Super Car weekend. Just don't go in dressed like a hobo in torn sweat pants looking like a junky. There's tons of normal people and photographers/videoagraphers in normal cars. You won't feel welcomed but you also won't feel like an outcast either.

It doesn’t really interest me because I can see this stuff any day walking by Burrard st. But I’d assume if people are actually paying a substantial amount of money to run, they probably actually like cars.

If they wanted to stand out and show off, they wouldn’t hang out in a group where they are just “normal”. The dicks are hitting redline down Alberni St. Lol

I worked at Carter Motorsports for a year and saw all those cars driving by my desk. This is a different level. Lots of cool exotics that don't show their face often come out to this event.

hud 91gt 04-06-2018 01:58 PM

They all look the same to me ;) only thing that excites me about exotics in the noise. Ha

Akord 04-07-2018 01:32 AM

I usually run a food truck at the events for these guys. Given their baller status and everything, I have to say that almost everyone I've met at their events including the organizers have been the most kind and down to earth people with a true passion for cars. They go above and beyond even for peons flipping food for them.
