Jeep Renegade, good?

Anyone driven/owned one of these?

Looks like a fun little jeep to drive.
Whats the reliability on this or maybe Jeeps in general?

I was leaning on the 1.4l Turbo and not the Tigershark engine..

tegra7 04-09-2018 05:29 PM

I've worked on a 2 that had water leaks coming from the factory installed windshields. Typical cheap Chrysler interior, Chrysler reliability..nuff said.

FerrariEnzo 04-09-2018 05:49 PM

ouch.. so I should stay away is what your saying..

Thanks for the heads up

Tone Loc 04-09-2018 07:32 PM

Jeeps in general are pretty terrible. Hell, most FCA cars are pretty terrible.

Manic! 04-09-2018 07:44 PM

Don't do what this guy did.

tegra7 04-09-2018 10:37 PM

Since we're shitting on Jeeps

underscore 04-10-2018 12:01 AM

I've owned older Jeeps which were great. I own a newish Jeep which hasn't been so great. In hindsight I should've sold it when I had the chance and bought a Toyota like I wanted instead of putting money into it so now I'm stuck with it. It's supposed to be my wife's vehicle once our kid is born but I have zero confidence in its ability to not shit the bed and leave them stranded somewhere with no warning. Don't get me wrong, it's great when it works, but there's a constant sense of doom wondering what's going to fuck up next. Unless something crazy happens I'll never buy another Chrysler product.

If you're going to lease one you might be fine if you don't mind arguing with the idiots at the service departments who seem to think "it's a Jeep, it's supposed to do that" is a valid reason for not fixing anything, but if you're wanting to buy then look at another brand.

twitchyzero 04-10-2018 07:14 AM

is Chrysler the only big 3 domestic that still has craptastic reliability? i've read issues with Fords but I don't hear much about modern GMs

Badhobz 04-10-2018 07:24 AM

fucking FCA...

Chrylser used to make good products. Those K cars lasted quite a while and Lee Iacocca was a goddamn legend. I remember his old ads, "if you could find a better car, buy it"
My dad drove a Plymouth Voyager (dodge caravan) for 10 years with no real issues and 300k on the clock.

Hell they even made a Chrysler Maserati which i really really want. 1991 Chrysler TC by Maserati | MJC Classic Cars | Pristine Classic Cars For Sale - Locator Service

The hell happened to this once great brand. I think the italians are running Chysler into the ground.

...yeah, blame "the Italians" for everything wrong. Just like everyone shit all over Ford and blamed them for Volvo's having shitty reliability, while under Ford's ownership.

originalhypa 04-10-2018 07:41 AM

It may not be completely the fault of the Italians, but they definitely didn't help FCA in the reliability category.

I'd stay away. Unless you're leasing, then you can give it back if it's a complete pos.

bcrdukes 04-10-2018 07:52 AM

Not a Jeep Renegade, but somewhat relevant to contribute to your question around reliability...
https://www.revscene.net/forums/7141...ky-brakes.html

I had a Jeep Renegade rental last week with 50KM on it (so it's new.) The moment I go out of the lot, the dashboard threw a CEL.

I returned it immediately for a Toyota RAV4. Thought I would be cool and tried to be different, you know, a renegade, and failed at that. So yeah. Take it with a grain of salt. The RAV4 gave me no problems whatsoever. Not a fair comparison, but just some food for thought.

Thank you guys for you input..

Interested in what the Kona N will be like

twitchyzero 04-10-2018 07:45 PM

it's like these manufacturers haven't learned a single thing from the Juke styling :Puke:

!Aznboi128 04-11-2018 07:34 AM

Kona is really slick, would have to really try it out before I can tell. I don't mind the looks all that much I think its much better than the Juke

The cx-3 has the best driving dynamics and the best looking/feeling interior. Infotainment is not the greatest neither is trunk space

The HRV is bland and boring but it does offer the most interior space.

Liquid_o2 04-11-2018 10:09 AM

HRV design looks like something from a decade ago. Not a bad thing, but sort of plain.

I like the look of the Kona, aside from all the plastic body cladding. Why do manufacturers do this??

hud 91gt 04-11-2018 11:08 AM

It’s cheap and now considered a trend! Companies generally save the painted surfaced items for the higher end trim/sport models.

TopsyCrett 04-11-2018 11:11 AM

The CX-3 loaner we had was so. much. fun. and I think it looks cool, especially the gauge cluster setup. Highly recommend it.

320icar 04-11-2018 12:12 PM

I just saw a kona today, that’s by far the ugliest fucking vehicle I’ve seen on the road IN A VERY LONG TIME

jjson 04-11-2018 12:47 PM

Glad I did not pull the trigger on a Fiat 500 Abarth

Mancini 04-13-2018 07:49 AM

Plastic cladding is actually useful for those who take their vehicles off road.

To be completely fair, most owners of "real" SUVs and trucks have never gone off road either, minus the occasional provincial park or campground....

Not true, many suv have gone off the road in Richmond. So technically they have gone off road.
