Sexy! Unreliable, but for sure sexy ! Why would anyone get a m4 now

spacemanrick 04-18-2018 01:21 PM

I like the look of the M2 for sure it looks great but 5 reasons off the top of my head to get the M4 is

1) carbon fibre roof
2) adaptive suspension
3) nappa leather with color options other than black
4) heads up display
5) more rear seat room

Badhobz 04-18-2018 01:32 PM

- Even with the carbon roof the m4 is still heavier. (m2 = 3450 m4 = 3530)
- Adaptive suspension sure, but i think the m2 rides fine so hopefully this new one wont ruin it.
- nappa leather ?! meh.
- HUD meh..
- m4 is barely usable, m3 yes totally. Id get the m3 anyways just because of the historic name and its a sleeper sedan.

What's the common problem with current M2/M3/M4 ?
We got couple current owners on RS.
Love to hear from them

and Tofu know all the inside stuffs of BMW :fullofwin:
Will it make the current M2 a great choice?

:considered: I approve and in the right color too :fullofwin:

I saw a decent looking M2 at the auction the other week and decided to take it for a run down their "test track" as I've always been fond of them. It was decently quick but fuck me did the quality of the build itself ever leave a sour taste in my mouth. It just felt cheap and awkward. I was shocked and I haven't even batted an eye at an M2 since.

Perhaps this comp package will bring a bit more quality to the table.

Drives a Maserati, calls another car out for unreliability :derp:

Badhobz 04-18-2018 04:55 PM

so far so... uhhh.. i guess head gaskets at 40,000km's is a bit ridiculous... and engine mounts.... and front control arm.... and thermostat..... and coolant hoses....

yeah but other than that its been fine!?!?!?! :fullofwin: only cost me over 15k for my last service.

plastic water pumps, timing chain tensioner, etc etc.

twitchyzero 04-18-2018 06:44 PM

thank you for not putting orange accents and a wing that belongs on Paul Walker's 2F2F Evo

westopher 04-18-2018 09:14 PM

Orange accents and shopping cart wing look pretty damn good to me there.

european 04-18-2018 09:25 PM

because the body isn't matte
accents on matte is an instant reminder of the cult classic MM-Design est. Richmond BC

hey man our new and improved electric water pumps ar..... oh wait

underscore 04-19-2018 10:58 AM

At least with the accents and wing it stands out a bit, instead of just looking the exact same as every other BMW. Germany has some of the laziest car styling departments.

you buy the M2 because the way it drives Vs the M4.....if you pick an M4 over an M2 is because you are poseur.....

Z3guy 04-19-2018 12:14 PM

I have a 991 GTS and a M2. The Porsche is a far more superior car in every category, except torque. However I still love driving the M2 any chance I get. The interior quality of materials are not the greatest, feels a little plastic, but you know what? I could care less because it is such a fun car. Yes it is not the lightest car, but it is the size and shorter wheelbase that makes the M2 a hoot!

For same on same money, I could have bought a 2015 fully loaded M4, but the M4 is a big pig with a laggy motor. It was not a fun experience Vs the M2.

tofu1413 04-19-2018 02:15 PM

oh man, the standard M2 is already a nice drive..

the comp pack will put the car to 120% and will be a riot.

Two things i asked for and it got: The seats and the twin turbo S55 unit!

this is gonna be a real car to drive!

Z3guy 04-19-2018 09:22 PM

Tofu, I will come by soon to visit you. You gotta drive my car with the fabspeed dp, and muffler bypass.....it pulls noticeably harder now!

tofu1413 04-19-2018 09:43 PM

F8X cars and the M2 have been quite reliable....

early F8X had a recall for having pebbles stuck between the brake dust shield and rotors.

That's all i've really seen so far at work. Not sure why people say theyre unreliable..... (mostly seemingly from people that have never even owned one....)

westopher 04-19-2018 09:56 PM

I don't think anyone can really say either way yet. If they were already having issues, after maximum 3 years, they would be truly pieces of garbage. M-cars are pricey to maintain, but usually seem to be more reliable than their run of the mill cars.

tofu1413 04-19-2018 10:22 PM

The M cars themselves seem to use a bit better quality stuff.

some of the components are a better build. higher quality hoses and gaskets/

LP700-4 04-19-2018 10:31 PM

There was a whole ordeal with the F80 S55 and crank hub problems leading to total engine failure. Not sure if its resolved yet or not.
