70 in a maclaren probably felt like 30..

Badhobz 04-27-2018 08:54 AM

I usually find the low slung, sports cars always feel faster even if it's going slowly. The stiff suspension and instant throttle response makes it super lively to drive around.

You want zero sensation of speed get in a rolls Royce. Feels the same going 160 or 30

Agreed. I think that's why I miss my NA Miata so much doing 70 in that feels like your going 140. Modern Cars 140 feels like your doing 60.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that the ultra wealthy can pay whatever whenever and it's not going to affect them and they can still drive around clueless causing potential issues for them and others. If you take their license away then you take away the means for them to potentially do harm to others and their property with an automobile.

???

They can still get in a car and drive it. Just pay the fine/towing for not driving with a licence?

teggy604 04-27-2018 12:41 PM

I find these police tweet kinda annoying. Its like they think these tweets going to deter these rich kids from doing what they want? Look back at all the yrs these kids with high end cars getting impounded. Nothing changed. They pay the fine, and if take away their car they just buy a better one lol.

Completely true. I guess what I'm getting at is any monetary penalty isn't going to help reduce the issue. Taking away the ability to drive is the only measure. I'm not entirely sure what the solution is though.

How is this possible though? Aren't areas around parks and school zones littered with speed bumps everywhere. How fast does this car go in 1st gear? Maybe he has a lead foot and stepped on the throttle a bit too hard and this car is too fckn fast, so it shot up to 70km/h in between the speed bumps.

No, you cannot do that in a Smartcar or Corolla, unless you had a lot of time and space.

I'm not giving this guy any excuse. But just pointing out that yes, you can achieve high speeds in any vehicle, but it's a lot easier in one than the other.

Nope tonnes of school and park zones have 30km/h limit with no speed bumps. Speed bumps are typically used more in higher traffic areas but not always. The park beside 29th ave station is a 30 zone, same as the street along Moscrop by the highschool. My co worker just recently got a speeding ticket for going 40 in the 30 zone by Moscrop.

From my observation, people either drive slower or faster than the posted speed.

N License and only 7 day impound.. WTF

twitchyzero 04-27-2018 08:21 PM

what you're still in 1st gear while maintaining 30kph? what car?

UnknownJinX 04-27-2018 09:46 PM

More money than sense, as usual.

On a related note: I wish all cars allow cruise control at 30 kph. My Accord didn't allow that(the lowest possible is 40 kph) and it was kind of annoying to mess around the throttle to maintain 30 kph. On my RX-8, I just put the car in 2nd, turn on CC to maintain 30 kph, and just rest my foot on the brake and can better focus the road.

Like said, it's a lot harder to get to a great speed within a short amount of time and distance.

When I had my 1999 Corolla 5-speed, I rarely mash on the throttle, not nearly as often as I do on my RX-8. Just different mindset and expectation when I drive these cars.

Maybe in a supercar, but I find in my RX-8, I get a pretty good sense of how fast I am going in a straight line.

Driving with a suspended license can get you jailed. The first time you are caught, you may be sent to jail for 6 months(which you can get around with a good lawyer if you are rich), but the second time you are caught, you will be sent to jail no matter what.

By the way, driving without a license is different from driving with a suspended license. The former means you don't have a mean to prove your driving skills, while the latter means you definitely have problems.

Just about any automatic car can downshift to 1st if you floor it. Harder in manual cars, though.
