Ford GT - The nicest American car ever made?

Joe rogan had Adam Ferra who is a car blogger reviewer etc on his podcast and they had a good discussion on the Ford GT, joe had been looking through pictures of it and he exclaimed that this might be the nicest American car ever made. Ever since he said that I’ve been looking at pictures and I’ve pretty much fallen in love with this car.

Apperently designed to enter the factory class race at Lemans and swept the first year they entered?

In terms of design and execution it’s gotta be up there

Yes. Simply because nothing about it looks American.

twitchyzero 04-30-2018 09:33 PM

still haven't seen one in-person
then again the 06+ are still quite rare
I guess Ford is axing this too? :okay:

It was always a limited build. They sold out long before they started making them.

DragonChi 04-30-2018 09:42 PM

I think the GT was released in limited numbers. I was just on the American Ford site, and couldn't get a price for one.

wiki says
Quote:

Production began in December 2016, with Ford planning to build the GT at a rate of one car per day in their new, low-volume assembly facility at Multimatic in Markham, Ontario[26] until October 2020. Vehicles produced in 2017 and 2018 are reserved for selected GT buyers, 2019 vehicles for buyers passed over in the initial selection process, and 2020 vehicles for new customers
MY2020 sold out too? :ahwow: million-dollar investment before it's even left the assembly line

Buy Canadian! Buy a Ford GT!

european 05-01-2018 08:14 AM

It's pretty sweet

jasonturbo 05-01-2018 08:26 AM

Exterior of the GT is amazing, interior is disappointing (looks worse in person), and the engine has no soul.

I prefer the previous generation of GT.

dhari 05-01-2018 09:01 AM

Looks great except for the weird space between the rear quarter pannel and engine/rear end. Looks unfinished to me.

blkgsr 05-01-2018 09:24 AM

that interior is terrible

This new one, or the original?

Badhobz 05-01-2018 10:32 AM

booom! i wanted to post this too.

Manic! 05-01-2018 10:46 AM

To get the new GT you had to fill out an application and send in a video. Only if you where deemed worthy, Ford would sell you one.

This new one.

Won 2016 LeMans (in th LMGTE Pro class) in their first year. Was also the 50th anniversary of Ford GT win in 1966.

It wasn't a sweep in 2016 though, the Ferrari team came 2nd.

always loved the Ford pantera ! (at least it was branded FORD)

Mr.Money 05-01-2018 11:46 AM

loved it till i saw the interior...that looks so plain and mono....the carbon fiber looks like stickers and the designer just slapped it on cause race car with other Exotic cars doing it to join the party.

now if you find the 2005 ford gt with the stick gate shifter and pod displays...looks worlds better...

Hondaracer 05-01-2018 11:58 AM

Yea that interior is...interesting...

I’m surprised about the comment about the engine being souless, that Adam ferra drove one for a few days says it’s pretty insane and feels like a full blown race car even moreso than your GT3 etc. big thing I took note of is when he said the way it dumps fuel etc it pops and fires like a F1 car

ak1to 05-02-2018 08:05 AM

I think because most people were expecting a V8 instead of the boosted V6 it currently runs. Though I believe part of a large reason to go through all that effort to design the new V6 was to satisfy LeMans requirements?

Regardless, the original GT40 in the Gulf livery is one of the most beautiful cars to grace the track. It has a great revenge story too despite some of the inaccuracies with the tale.

And the GT90 never existed.

Spoiler!

Such a great car.

If we're talking American designed supercars, you can't forget about the Vector.

Let me put my Timpo hat on for a minute...

The 1978-87 W2
http://www.supercars.net/blog/wp-con...Prototype3.jpg
Twin turbo 5.7L V8

The 1990-93 W8
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/23/3f...c9662d6731.jpg
Twin Turbo 6.0L V8, carbon and kevlar body

The 1993 WX3

Twin Turbo 7.0L V8, 1200hp

The WX3 was never put into production. Vector planned for the WX-3 to enter production in the 1990s, but after a hostile takeover initiated by Megatech, company founder Gerald Wiegert was fired from his own company. The car was never produced and later removed when Wiegert initiated lawsuits and copyrighted the designs, preventing Megatech from building and selling the car without his approval.

Hostile takeovers were all the rage in the 90's. Even better, the company name was Megatech :awesom:

Hondaracer 05-02-2018 11:08 AM

WX3 looks like that jaguar super car

underscore 05-02-2018 12:13 PM

The XJ220?

The W2 had wicked front end lift at speed according to my memories of GT2.

Jmac 05-02-2018 04:14 PM

The original Ford GT40 was pretty much exclusively British and the modern GT is based off the original design, so ... is it really the nicest American car ever made?
