Why do people still post their racist/assholeish/controversial thoughts on FB? I mean it's basically today's equivalent of doing this:

Use a fucking anonymous board ffs, it's 2018.

I wonder if it's possible to reform the programs designed to protect child welfare? I know even with reports made, it's still tough to do anything but one has to wonder if changes could be made.

To stop things like this happening

Or this

I mean people are crying about temporary separation of children and adults at the borders but what about the children already in the country going through living hell?

As a meeting last August in the Oval Office to discuss sanctions on Venezuela was concluding, President Donald Trump turned to his top aides and asked an unsettling question: With a fast unraveling Venezuela threatening regional security, why can’t the U.S. just simply invade the troubled country?

The suggestion stunned those present at the meeting, including U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and national security adviser H.R. McMaster, both of whom have since left the administration. This account of the previously undisclosed conversation comes from a senior administration official familiar with what was said.

Reminds me of when Obama just went ahead and invaded Libya. Except he didn't bother asking

Why be a little bitch and a coward about it. If someone feels that way they should be a man and let the world know.

Then it didn't seem to go as well

"But in a statement issued after Pompeo had landed in Japan, North Korea said the talks were "regrettable" and accused Washington of trying to unilaterally pressure the country into abandoning its nukes. It also said the U.S. made "unilateral and gangster-like" demands, according to the Associated Press."

Quote:
US Attorney General Jeff Sessions revoked 24 guidance documents on Tuesday, many involving race in schools and affirmative action recommendations.

It comes as Harvard University faces a discrimination lawsuit alleging it limits admissions for Asian-Americans.

In 2016, the US Supreme Court had ruled in favour of affirmative action.

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, who wrote the 2016 opinion, announced his retirement from the top US court last month.

His departure gives President Donald Trump a chance to appoint a justice who more closely matches the administration's views on taking race into account in college admissions.

The Trump administration is expected to tell schools not to consider race in the admissions process, discontinuing the policy former President Barack Obama adopted to promote more diversity at colleges and high schools.

Another trump supporter loses his job. This time it's the founder and CEO of Papa Johns pizza. He used the N word during a conference call. Trump seems to attract a lot of raciests for someone who claims not to be a raciest.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...er-racial-slur

Quote:
The founder and chairman and Pizza chain Papa John’s has resigned hours after being forced to apologise for using a racial slur during a conference call in May.

The Forbes news site reported that John Schnatter used the N-word during a media training exercise. When asked how he would distance himself from racist groups, Schnatter reportedly complained that Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, never faced a backlash for using the word.

In a statement released by Kentucky-based Papa John’s, Schnatter said reports attributing use of “inappropriate and hurtful” language to him were true. “Regardless of the context, I apologise,” the statement said. The company said Olivia Kirtleywould act as lead independent director, and added it would appoint a new chairman in the coming week.

“Papa John’s condemns racism and any insensitive language, no matter the situation or setting ... We take great pride in the diversity of the Papa John’s family, though diversity and inclusion is an area we will continue to strive to do better,” the company said in a separate statement.

Schnatter, who founded the company in 1984, resigned as chief executive in December last year, after blaming slowing sales growth on the outcry surrounding football players kneeling during the national anthem.

Yum Brands Inc’s Pizza Hut replaced Papa John’s as NFL’s sponsor in February, ending Papa John’s eight-year relationship with the top US football league.

Papa John’s shares closed nearly 5% down at $48.33 on Wednesday.

I wonder what he actually said.. Because you can be a stupid idiot and use that word without being racist. For instance the guy who got fired from Netflix for using it in a list of offensive words during a conference call

I was watching A Bronx Tale on AMC and stuck around to see how they would handle a particular scene, as AMC is pretty bad for censoring. Well they mute out the word 'fucking' and keep the word immediately following it, 'nigger', in the broadcast. I commend AMC for understanding context in the former and condemn them for ignoring it in the latter. When it comes language that isn't directed at an actual person or people, either its all ok or none of it is. George Carlin and his 7 Dirty Words is worth a watch in regards to this example.

In the Papa John's story, they don't explain how the word nigger was used by John Schnatter to set the situation off so I can't really condemn him, even if there is a good chance he did say it in a racist way. Him stating that Colonel Saunders used to say it is simply stating a fact (as far as I understand it to be). That isn't offensive in the least. Provide the original utterance and the context, and then decide if it is something he should be fired over.

Oh I must have misunderstood the story. I thought he had casually dropped the word 'nigger' in a business meeting, then tried to deflect blame by essentially saying that it was ok for Colonel Sanders to say it, so why not him.

If that is the case, then wtf?! The Sanders ancestors and KFC are the only ones who could claim offense to him stating a fact, and that's only if this fact was not a fact at all.

This is what is perplexing to people such as myself who are black.

Why is the word Nigger being used in the first place in a corporate setting on a conference call? Not only that, but numerous times?

I work for the largest financial firm in Canada, to even think about using a racist noun such as nigger, chink, wetback, you name it, on a conference call would be absolute blasphemy within my company. I would be gone the next day, and I would expect as much.

And you wonder by black folks are paranoid about what some white people may say behind closed doors, at the highest levels in some of these companies.

The real question is, how was he awarded the freedom in his mind to be so comfortable about using such words in a corporate setting? Clearly such words and views are quite acceptable around his "circle" of people. If anything it gives more credence to the fact that abject racism and white supremacy is alive and well in some of the highest echelons of not only government, but corporate America. This is something we already know, and has seem examples of time and time again.

But no of course he's not a racist, it was just taken out of context!
