GLOW 05-28-2023 12:03 PM

read an article that some harsher immigration laws against illegals desantis is pushing is going to make it for illegals (who still pay taxes) to peace out of florida b/c it's not worth it or unsafe via those laws, which takes away tax dollars, as well as cheap labour for various agriculture jobs, and the battle with disney is going to further hurt the economy...

any real truth to that or would it not really make a dent and business as usual?

mikemhg 05-29-2023 11:46 AM

I think there's truth to that for sure, GLOW. You likely will see less illegals migrate through Florida (although) lets be real, most illegals aren't migrating through Florida in the first place outside of Cubans/Dominicans/Haitians.

These laws will definitely affect them on the corporate side, you'll see less companies (you're seeing this already) wanting to open shop within the state itself. The problem is money talks, Florida is cheap, they offer tons of incentives to draw business there.

From an agricultural standpoint, I don't think it'll make much of a difference. Most immigrants tend to go where they have family and a support system, if Florida is that state, they'll still go there.

The penalties writ-large in any state are quite strict nowadays if ICE gets their hands on you anywhere at this point.

Human smuggling will not be tolerated in Florida. Knowingly transporting an illegal immigrant into Florida will result in 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine per offense.
If you have a family member who is illegal will you risk going to jail to give him a ride?

-sounds quite serious for Cheeto:

Former President Donald Trump has been indicted on seven counts in the special counsel's classified documents probe, a stunning development that marks the first time a former president has faced federal charges.

Trump is facing a charge under the Espionage Act, his attorney Jim Trusty told CNN, as well as charges of obstruction of justice, destruction or falsification of records, conspiracy and false statements.

Really hoping this new Federal indictment/charge sticks to Mr. Teflon.

Two lawyers who represented Donald Trump in the months before the former president was indicted on federal charges over his handling of classified documents quit working for him.
The attorneys, Jim Trusty and John Rowley, did not explain in detail why they had resigned, other than to say that “this is a logical moment” to do so given his indictment Thursday in U.S. District Court in Miami.
Trump said he would now be represented by Todd Blanche, a New York lawyer who is representing him in another criminal case in Manhattan related to a 2016 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.

I can see Cheeto brag to his friends about his "personal" collection of classified documents.

Storing classified documents at a bathroom and shower at the Mar-A-Lago. Did Cheeto read the documents while he was taking a dump in that bathroom? LUL

Former President Donald Trump improperly shared a Pentagon “plan of attack” and a classified map related to a military operation, according to a sweeping 37-count felony indictment related to the mishandling of classified documents that was unsealed Friday and that could instantly reshape the 2024 presidential race.

The 49-page charging document, alleging that Trump not only intentionally possessed classified documents but also cavalierly and boastfully showed them off to visitors, is startling in scope and in the breadth of allegations. The indictment is built on Trump's own words and actions as recounted to prosecutors by lawyers, close aides and other witnesses, with prosecutors even using against Trump his own words as a candidate and president professing to respect and know procedures related to the handling of classified information.

Noting the “tens of thousands of members and guests” who visited the “active social club” of Mar-a-Lago between the end of Trump’s presidency in January 2021 through the August 2022 search, prosecutors argued that Trump had “nevertheless” stored the documents there, “including in a ballroom, a bathroom and shower, and office space, his bedroom, and a storage room.”

Pics of where the boxes were. Honestly, pretty much looks like how my parents store stuff.

As expected, his supporters are handling it well, talking about starting a civil war

I bet $1000 he isn't punished for any of these actions.

SkinnyPupp 06-09-2023 04:13 PM

I guess it feels like there's more of a chance of it than there used to be

I mean even his lawyers bailed on him lol

It's so funny, Mar-a-Lago for all it's worth looks so audacious and dated.

Looks like those old palaces Saddam used to have in Iraq, or reminds me of some of my rich uncle's houses in Nigeria.

All the money in the world, but no "taste".

I visited a guy's mansion in China once, and it took every amount of effort not to laugh.. He had every ostentatious feature you can possibly imagine. Like Trump, he had a chandelier in the bathroom. There were replica statues of every period, from ancient China to Italy.. Just everything. There was no coherence to the aesthetics or anything, just whatever looked expensive was purchased and put in the mansion.

I thought the same thing at the time; tons of money, no taste at all. I expected it for "new money" like so many people in China, but not a world famous mogul like Trump LUL

I love how he can just outright lie, even the most basic of facts.

https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/c...ent-statistics

Border arrests in 2022 were the highest on record. Literally the highest, and not even close to Trump's highest year in office (2019), arrest numbers for 2022 are more than double Trump's highest year's arrest count.

How is the border "open"? :lol

The amount of cynicism in these Republican politicians is just mind-blowing, these are very simple confirmable facts.
