This is exactly why the right loves Trump. He set up the SCOTUS and they recently made 2 pretty significant rulings:
1. Struck down affirmative action policies in Universities.
2. Sided with Christian website designer in a case involving whether businesses can refuse to do services that involve LGBTQ+ expressions/designs.
Less significant but still a blow to Biden - struck down his student loan relief plan.

It's crazy that people can base their lives around wanting to fuck over minorities. How does someone's brain get so broken?

#2, as a private business would they not have the right? if the would be client, was say a far right hate group, and the designer refused the work, would it be an issue? seems like if you reject 1 you need to reject all, or accept 1 accept all, if that makes sense...
#3, student loan relief: this i'm sure would have hurt tax payers as funding must come from somewhere, but seems disappointing. i felt like this would have had a large impact for people with loans, and least partisan issue. is it a matter of just saying "no" to biden's policies, or are the right usually well to do and don't want to give 'free education'... don't quite see the logic helping those get educated and inject the work force with skilled workers...

I'll answer the obvious one.
#2 - should we go back to whites only laundromats? Whites only water fountains? This wasn't that long ago, and it's discrimination against a group for who they are, not their actions. Dudes banging other dudes isn't a chosen behaviour, it's engrained in genetics, much like being black, or Asian or whatever. Looking back at very recent history it's pretty obvious that enabling bigotry isn't a sweet path forward.
Restricting your business based on a far right hate group is based on the behaviour of a group or individuals of a group, not what someone is born as.

Would the market forces eventually sift out all the discriminatory businesses? I mean if you only appeal to a particular consumer market (right wing) vs. another competitor that serves all consumer markets ... won't one suffer financially at the end of the day and the other win out?

A small town may only have one business in a certain field. Gold River on Vancouver Island only has one gas station Tofino only has 2 and will only ever have 2 due to bylaws.

On a personal level, I don't like the student loan relief plan because it sounds to me like those people just got a free out of jail card. I would have preferred to see more personal responsibilities as far as personal finances are concerned -- if you went into a post secondary program that could not allow you to get into a job to cover your post secondary expenses, then that means you made a poor decision to get into that program in the first place, and you should be held responsible for that financially, instead of having taxpayers bail you out.
On the other hand, I can see the macroeconomic argument to support the student loan relief program -- the theory goes that because lots of post secondary-educated people are heavily burdened by tuition and post secondary education debts, it is dramatically affecting their economic contributions to society, and thereby hurting the overall economy in general.
With this sort of social policy, it is difficult to pinpoint where the optimal point lies. In fact, unless things are really skewed off to one side, it is difficult to even just see whether society is on the correct side of the policy.

^ true ... some responsibility attached to the loan forgiveness would be better than just a plain free ride.
Eg. you get 20% reduction in your loan for every year you work at a place that is in need of your training or field. So if you work in rural areas as a teacher or nurse or whatever you help the overall economic distribution. Work there for 5 yrs and your loan is forgiven.

the other side of that argument is that when you're applying to university and picking your programs, you are literally still a child. most children don't have the understanding that the real world isnt necessarily going to give you a good job right out of school and that life gets in the way of loan payments. when you're young you're full of optimism, but things don't always work out the way you expect them to.

^lol at all of you thinking republicans rejected student loan relief because of the macroeconomics; they rejected it because it was going to gain Biden popularity, and opposing it allows them to feed the morons further misinformation. Yes, the ones at the top know the science and data behind it, but the rednecks who wear red hats in buttfuck Tennessee are against it out of sheer stupidity.
"durr hurr nobody in my entire family tree went to college, so we don't have any student loans! Therefore we are against forgiving loans for others!" As they continue to squalor in poverty getting bailouts from blue states while paying tens of dollars in tax a year.
"But but but it's socialism! which is kind of like fascism, but also antifa! nazis!" All the while rich white republicans were enjoying PPP loans (ahem, socialism) and then the subsequent forgiveness (again, socialism).
The entire lot of them are hypocrites, or retards, or a mix thereof.
The benefits of forgiving them are immense, and immediate. Yet due to the last 5 years, America once again proves it's a shithole country.

They'd be way better off spending a bit of money on education rather than wasting it bailing out private companies and funding defense contractors. But Republicans are dependent on keeping people stupid to be able to get their votes.
Even if you're selfish you should want society to be full of as many educated people as possible because it benefits you too. I don't want someone to not become a doctor because they couldn't afford it, when I need one I want as many of them around as there can be.

I don’t see many benefits to general student loan forgiveness. It’s a dis-service to allow people to go to school and get in debt for careers that serve no purpose in 2023 like an art history degree. However I do see many benefits to mandatory paid co-op terms similar to an apprenticeship.
Students benefit from income and experience. They may realize they don’t even like the chosen field and save 3+ years of their life and debt.
Employers benefit from being able to cherry pick their future rockstars without taking some jabroni off the street.
