Try and take a little solace in that the headlines we're hearing are just the republican nominee primaries. They don't reflect the general election polls, and even projections of those are not terribly accurate anymore since most are done via telephone survey.
Trump's Iowa primary win was seen as a "massive victory", with 50% of the vote. But only 18% of active republicans in the state actually turned up to vote. So only 9% of registered republicans actually voted for him in the primary.
^ yah but if he ends up being the ONLY Rep candidate, what do you think 99% of the Republican party will do in the Nov election? You think they will either not show up for the election or vote for Biden?
Honestly, I hope to God your optimism is right but I don't give rural Americans that much credit or intellect.
I do hope that what we seen with McCarthy in the House of Representatives revealed the HUGE divide, civil war, and dysfunctionatiy within the Republican party and that it will implode on itself.
Or, the other Hail Mary is that Galumph will be ruled ineligible to run as President. But I can't expect America to be reasonable and common sensical.
The Trump base is still gonna come out to vote for Trump. No one should have any delusions that they'll stay home and not vote.
To me, the unknown factor is how big of a base there is for moderate Republicans (voters) and swing voters in the swing states. With moderate Republicans, a Biden victory doesn't really need them to be voting for Biden -- they just need to be disgusted enough with Trump that they do not vote for him.
And then of course there are the habitual swing voters. That is also an unknown to me.
Consumer bias and the way media represents the news is so fascinating to me. You still get people who are saying the economy was "better" under Trump, yet those details don't ring true, necessarily.
It appears that "Bidenomics" is actually working. S&P 500 just hit record levels (say what you will if you believe that indicates economic health, but Trump would tout that if he was president right now). Inflation in the US is going down, their economy has been one of the few worldwide to pivot the economic downturn/depression.
Wages are up substantially since he's taken office as well:
Yet if you ask any Tom, Dick and Harry they'll tell you Biden sucks, the economy sucks. It's all very bizarre, the Democrats are fucking terrible at celebrating their wins, while the Republicans can cheer on the accomplishment of dropping a steaming hot turd.

This is it.
I don't really understand why anyone who voted against trump 4 years ago would change their mind this time around.
I think the bigger threat to the democrats is if their own voters developed more apathy this time around and just don't bother to vote. And if that's the case, well they fucking deserve what they get.
Jury awards E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million from Trump for 2019 defamatory statements
From CNN’s Lauren del Valle and Kara Scannell
Former President Donald Trump should pay $83.3 million to writer E. Jean Carroll for public statements he made in 2019 disparaging Carroll and denying her rape allegations, a Manhattan federal jury determined Friday.
The jury found Trump should pay Carroll compensatory damages of $18.3 million — $11 million to fund a reputational repair campaign and $7.3 million for the emotional harm caused by Trump’s 2019 public statements.
Trump should also pay $65 million in punitive damages for acting maliciously in making the statements about Carroll, the jury found.
The total is more than eight times what Carroll asked for in her initial lawsuit.
Last May, a separate Manhattan federal jury awarded Carroll a total of $5 million in damages — including nearly $3 million for defamation — after they found that Trump sexually abused Carroll and then defamed her in 2022 for public statements he made disparaging her and denying the allegations.
^ haha ... it's going to her wardrobe and plastic surgery fund, not to pay off Trump's settlement. Even if you gave the $$ to Trump to pay it off, he wouldn't. He doesn't take care of his financial responsibilities. His reputation of cheating contractors and companies ... "you gotta pay your bills" .

In one breath people will talk about how strong, rich and successful he is and the next they cry about how he's the victim that needs their help because he is being bullied.
These people don't know up from down.

I don't get how that gofundme is even around, it clearly violates #9 on their TOS where it says Gofundme cannot be used to build funds in defense of financial or violent crimes

Master of time before frozen?
Or the powers that be are supporters?
This last case he lost will be a big issue for him.
$354.9 million, plus the other settlement, in NY. Of course he'll appeal but the difference in NY is you have to allocate 110% of that amount upfront in an escrow in order to appeal.
Many believe he doesn't have the kind of money sitting around in cash in order to do so.
That along with him and his family not able to run a company or have any financial dealings with any banks registered in NY will also fuck him over for attaining any loans through banks onshore.
This is a pretty big deal that will hurt him greatly.
He'll either be sucking Saudi dick shortly, or robbing the Republican Party coffers to pay for all this crap, which is fantastic.
Forbes is estimating Trump to have ~ $2.6B in total assets, but only ~$426M in cash or other liquid forms. Bloomberg's estimate is $453M in liquid assets.
No matter how you cut it, $350M is gonna take a huge chunk out of the liquid portion of his money. It would also seem impossible for him to not liquidate some of his non-liquid assets to get some liquidity back on hand.
Personally, I'm hoping that the big financial backers of his campaign will just pull the plug on sponsoring him. To stand a chance at winning POTUS, you absolutely have to burn money at an incredible rate. So when there is no money anymore, a candidate pretty much has to withdraw.
I doubt he has as much cash as they think and he's probably leveraged out the wazoo to who know what even off the books official parties too.......... they better be monitoring his campaign spending and contributions like hawks he's going to bring in crooked money from literally everywhere.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Saudis or Russians paid his settlement for him.
You know full well all his supporters that have been crying for years about Hunter Biden being overpaid for a job by Ukraine would not even blink if Russia gave Trump $350M in $$$ hahaha... the cognitive dissonance of these people is absolutely unreal.
It's at $400K so far, bit of a way to go. But still.. There's enough fucking depraved freaks in the country to donate $400K to this bag of shit. Incredible
