These monuments were not made to remember their treatment of slaves, but rather other contributions they made to society.
I just wanna re-up this comment of Hehe defending Confederate monuments for being about "their other contributions" to set the record straight on what a piece of shit human being he is.
I can't wait to hear him say that Germany should have more monuments celebrating Hitler's "other contributions" such as rebuilding the German economy especially building the Autobahn.

"You can imagine the psychological impact, especially on African Americans, but on anyone who does not believe that white supremacy is an American value, and seeing these memorials all over the country."
She continued, "Another real goal was to claim white spaces. A lot of these memorials are put up in front of courthouses to claim the law as something that is only for whites. After Brown v. the Board of Education made segregation illegal, many schools suddenly changed their names to the names of Confederates, making a clear statement that no matter what the law says, these schools are white spaces."

I'm just waiting now for Hehe to tell us that slavery wasn't THAT bad b/c those Africans would have been stuck fighting civil wars in Africa and living in dire poverty so they should be grateful that someone helped them get out and get American citizenship way before it became fashionable.

When Africa sent its people, they were not sending their best. They were sending people that had lots of problems, and they were bringing those problems with them to America. They were bringing drugs. They were bringing crime. They were rapists. And some, I assume, were good people.

I agree that not all Republicans or conservatives are morons, but with the way things are in the US right now, it really makes me wonder how small of a minority these moderate Republicans have become.
Haley has been trying hard to reach these Republicans during her campaign, but her attempts have utterly failed before dropping out of the race. She only won in Vermont and DC. She mostly got trounced everywhere else.
What's going SO BADLY in the USA right now? Unenployment is the lowest % it's ever been and stock market is staying about where it was which is also the highest ever.
Just cuz some old fuck with bad hair says the economy is in the toilet/it's a third world country doesn't mean it actually is.
Anyone I know in the US is living a very fine life right now with an abundance of choices, lots of great cities or suburbs to live in if they choose to... yah SFO and NY and BOS are super expensive, but what else is new?

If the election is as much of a disaster for them as it seems like it might be, this may lead to a schism of the party. Many Republicans are going along with the insanity because that's the populist direction. There are enough really stupid and bigoted people out there that they see it as the way to go. Far right, complete asshat territory. Dems are center right or left, depending on the policy.
Maybe there's room for these Lincoln Project minded guys on the center right, taking away from both parties.
This led to one of the most eye opening moment in my life. I asked them, but wouldn't there be people who abuse the system?

This has been the very point that I have long advocated. We need to get this idea into people. They need to work hard. Success doesn't happen by chance. And I've seen very few who achieved great success without putting in their time.
Instead, liberals want us to believe that the problem is with the system. The reason why people are not succeeding is because our system is purposely suppressing them.
Yes, I know just working hard isn't guaranteeing success. But if one doesn't work hard at all, the chance of succeeding drop by another magnitude if that's ever possible without extreme luck.
So, if you think that we can have a Nordic kind of socialism system... yes, you are in the very same boat as me. You want people to first learn to work hard.

hehe has been going off about his enlightened centerism for ages now. he leans right pretty hard but will always try to put in a quip about how both sides are bad to thinly veil his argument as balanced.
You can definitely see the same trends here in Canada, particularly with John Rustad appearing on a Jordan Peterson podcast recently.
Having a majority of young men who are frustrated about their lives and future prospects is not a good thing, no matter which side of the spectrum you're on.

Let’s say you exceeded all expectations, you got a “good” career, you’ve saved some money. What does that look like? A $700,000 mortgage in east Langley? lol

Honestly I look at some peoples situations who I grew up with it’s like.. would I kill myself if I was in their shoes? A few people I graduated highschool with have recently committed suicide, almost certainly from a serious of unfortunate choices compounded with cost of living.

My wife and I probably make almost triple what my parents made at our age we have quadruple or more than they did in assets, no kids, no debt, and I’m still like damn.. subway is getting expensive
You have -no hope- in living even the slightest variation of your dreams lol.. but hey you’re “safe” if you stay inside your home and are lucky enough to be healthy.
A decade of that turns a person against the govt. in power pretty quick.
Also in terms of “financial woes aren’t life threatening” lol yea.. they kinda are.. look at the sky rocketing number of homeless. What’s going to be even worse going forward are the hidden homeless or people right on the edge. Once you’re on the streets, it’s a longggggg road back.
If you’ve got 2 children, and a household income under $150,000 in Canada, your situation is hopeless.
