On absolute terms, you are quite correct that we need the US more than they need us -- it's a simple matter of market size, and there is no hope we can compete with them on equal footings. But in a strategic negotiation situation, I don't think both sides necessarily need to stand on equal grounds before negotiations can take place.
Here is an idea that I've previously read about : https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/secon...erty-1.4708630
and I'd think that if our federal gov has the ballz and determination to do it, the results could be more favourable.
TL;DR summary:
- suspend US pharmaceutical patents on Canadian soil
- Canadian pharmaceutical companies can then begin to produce generic equivalents of those US drugs for cheap
- US big pharma will freak out because of our proximity with the US, and their lobbying power in Washington will then become ammunition for our negotiations
When you are dealing with a big bully, you gotta be smart, and strike them where it hurts.

would Trump be upping the ante right now if Trudeau didn't take a firm stance at G7?
I don't think the crying baby has blasted other Western allies as hard as he has on Canada, the wall aside

Everyone knows Prez Dumb Dumb is extremely petty. Had Trudeau not made the "US tariffs were kind of insulting' and that " he will not be pushed around" comments, it is likely that Dumb Dumb wouldn't be coming down as hard on Canada as he is now.
At the same time, had Trudeau not said what he said, Dumb Dumb would likely have taken Trudeau and Canada as a pushover, and he would still be trying to impose a version of NAFTA that is primarily beneficial to the US.

It'll probably take longer than a few months to bring it back.

It'll probably take longer than a few months to bring it back. | And in the mean time businesses close and americans lose there jobs. Custom Computer Cases | Best Computer Cases | Computer Tower Cases - CaseLabs Quote:
We are very sad to announce that CaseLabs and its parent company will be closing permanently. We have been forced into bankruptcy and liquidation. The tariffs have played a major role raising prices by almost 80% (partly due to associated shortages), which cut deeply into our margins. The default of a large account added greatly to the problem. It hit us at the worst possible time. We reached out for a possible deal that would allow us to continue on and persevere through these difficult times, but in the end, it didn’t happen.
We are doing our best to ship as many orders as we can, but we won’t be able to ship them all. Parts orders should all ship, but we won’t be able to fulfill the full backlog of case orders. We are so incredibly sorry this is happening. Our user community has been very devoted to us and it’s awful to think that we have let any of you down. There are over 20,000 of you out there and we are very grateful for all the support we have received over the years. It was a great journey that we took together and we’re thankful that we got that chance.
We understand that there will likely be a great deal of understandable anger over this and we sincerely apologize. We looked at every option we had. This is certainly not what we envisioned. Some things were just out of our control. We thought we had a way to move forward, but it failed and we disabled the website from taking any more orders.
It was a privilege to serve you and we are so very sorry things turned out this way.

He had no leverage. And has even less now.

Wouldn't that be a hoot.

Wouldn't that be a hoot. | Sky high rates compared to what? Also, the company started in the 70's so they were able to stay open for around 40 years.

Wonder what trumps going to say about this:
New Nike ad.
I want to get a blown up poster of that.

You should hang it from your ceiling. Right above your bed.

You should hang it from your ceiling. Right above your bed. | Nike has been trending on Twitter for the last 5 plus hours. https://trends24.in/
They are only going to sell more shoes and they already sell out of a lot of the stuff they make.
And it's a 25% increase for caselabs because the buy aluminum sheets and cut the cases out of that. They still have to pay for the aluminum they cut out.
That comes from one sheet of aluminum.

I want to get a blown up poster of that. | I wonder if Nike will hang this poster in their sweatshop factories to motivate the workers.
It is also interesting how there is more outrage over this take a knee ad campaign than there is for the work conditions from the Right.
Trump is all concerned about the supposed thousands of businesses and millions of jobs lost because Canada somehow took advantage of the US with NAFTA? Yet companies like Nike can pack up and move production to places like Vietnam, because lowering labour costs is the American Way I guess?

Myself, I don't really give a rats behind about a company folding because it relied solely on cheap dumped Chinese metal and charged so much for their product that they couldn't possibly increase their price to make up for the cost.
Maybe that's why nobody bought them/are going out of business/nobody cares.

I don’t think Trump cares about Nike... I mean... he’s not exactly athletic... and it would deplete his finite energy to participate in activities requiring Nike apparel
