Musk re-tweeted Ford's post with "Oh well" as his comment

Dude really doesn't realize how fucked up it looks to an Average Joe when you can say oh well about $100M when they're struggling to pay all their bills

So I guess we're never going to find out what happened on those 2 phone calls between Trump and Trudeau? No concessions, no capitulation. It's been several hours now since the supposed calls, I guess TRADE WAR is still on?

$200 million extra at the border from Canada, for 30 more days.

That's it.

Ah right, same deal as Mexico. Hot off the press.

WHoopie. THis is going to be a monthly thing isn't it? Crash the market with tariff talk, walk back and delay and see it recover all the while his cronies buy at the bottom.

They must have had a 'perfect phone call'.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/tru...-war-1.7448805

Trade war is on hold "for at least 30 days". Maybe that's long enough to make it out of the news cycle.

you know again, I suggested people calm the hell down and just wait before over reacting with like taking US liquor off the shelf, etc. Even if the tariffs go through, wait a week or two to see what the real effects are before doing this or that. Economics is a multi-factor layered beast. Even if prices go up in the States of Cdn goods because of tariffs, if there are no good comparables, US citizens might end up still buying our stuff at the adjusted price and they are the ones taking the consequences of Trump's tariffs.

While I agree with you in a way, I have to say I've appreciated the response of Canadian politicians to stand up for Canadians in whatever way possible. I think it's been at the very least something that has solidified a bit of confidence in them wanting to stand up for our country as opposed to all the fucking spineless republicans and democrats down south either falling in line or just keeping their mouths shut.

^ what I appreciated is the discussion on inter-province trade and how to make that easier. Just learning more about that (for the first time) and partially why provinces trade south of the border because there are too many damn rules and barriers. Let's fix that and let the Cdn goods flow easier in Canada.

I bet those dollars were already allocated for the border and it's not new money. Trump doesn't know the details so it becomes easy to repackage existing initiatives as "new"

I love the quote where trump is saying, "I look at some of the deals made. I say: "who the hell made these deals? They're so bad."

Anyone around him have the balls to tell him it was him?

And the reality is that he doesn't have the cognitive ability or intelligence to understand how the deals work. The man is borderline economically illiterate.

I don't think we should take this as a win and stop caring about the issues at hand. The US has shown that they are not our friend or ally like they have been traditionally. Our economy is already so rocky. All the chatter about buy BC/Canada shouldn't be ignored now that the tariffs are "on hold" because it's evident now, more than ever, we need to support our local economy and push to diversify our trading partners.

Trump pauses tariffs on Canada for at least 30 days, Trudeau says

so I guess Trump won right? LOL

"Trump in a Truth Social post wrote, “Canada has agreed to ensure we have a secure Northern Border, and to finally end the deadly scourge of drugs like Fentanyl that have been pouring into our Country, killing hundreds of thousands of Americans, while destroying their families and communities all across our Country.”"

That's indeed what he'll claim

Seems all Trudeau had to do was a create a new phony government position "drug czar" and consider cartels as terrorist organizations

Might have to go through this again in a month

Trudeau said, all told, there will be 10,000 front-line personnel working along the border to address Trump's stated priority: a major crackdown on drugs and migrants.
Somebody explain to me how these 10k front-line Canadian border personnel will guard drugs and migrants flowing OUT of Canada?

It's not like Canadian border agents are doing checks as you enter the US.

Security theatre. Basically Trump knows he can get countries to do whatever he wants with the threat of UnPrEcEDneTED TARrIFFS!!!

Not good, this is not good. We're basically negotiating with a bum coming into a store threatening to smash all our product unless we give him free shit.

This is where you're wrong, you're using logical. Mr cheetos doesn't work like that.

I fact checked - 2019, the nationwide total of Border Patrol agents was 19,648, that's US. So I guess we ain't so bad when we have 10k?

US blaming their failures on someone else is pretty par for the course.

Canada has about 8500 front line agents right now, so I guess they're going to move some people up

I don't see how "this is not good". I mean it's not great, but it's not like you can stop him from keeping the trade war going otherwise. Canada can do damage, as we saw with the liquor, but there's literally no way to win a "war" against them. Being able to fight is good

To me it sounds like Canada isn't actually giving up or negotiating a whole ton; but rather just giving in marginally very little just to appease a toddler's demands thinking they 'won'

e.g. $1.3B was already committed previously before the tariffs, only an 1500 personnel on top of the 8500 already there, appointing a 'Fentanyl Czar' who will just be twiddling their thumbs since Canada had nearly zero impact of the fentanyl crisis in the US

It's just brinkmanship. He's like fucking North Korea throwing a hissy fit with nukes until they get some concessions, repeat ad nauseam for the remainder of his term.

https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/video/9.6633776
Watch from 1:30. Is that a threat or is that a fucking threat? He sounds like he's talking about taking someone's virginity.

I saw online speculation that Mexico/Canada hoodwinked Trump and didn't specify "new 10000" personnel, so it's just existing staffing. Maybe a few more in Canada unless you add in support staff.
