From what i've been seeing, I feel like this trade war might actually be better for Canada in the long term.

It's opening up way more discussions on how to keep logistics, production, manufacturing, etc. inside Canada. It's crazy there's not free trade within provinces.

I've even heard left leaning people opening up to pipeline projects to get our resources to the coasts to sell to other countries.

Short term, it can get pretty crazy, but I think in the long term this issue has really stirred Canadians up, more than we have ever been before.

Nothing will happen, we’re too bogged down by bureaucracy. For example the massey tunnel replacement needs 5 years of environmental assessment even though there’s already a tunnel there so we dont offend fish/bird migrations.

I personally love the response by Canadian politicians, and I have no issue with removing US products because if we didn’t, we would look weak and that’s exactly what Trump wanted. He wanted Canada to roll over, and that never happened.

The harsh reality is that the US can't be trusted, and it's a wake-up call for every politician to realize that we need to forge new trade deals, we need more trade between Provinces and not have all our eggs in one basket. We also need to increase military spending. It's about time we focus on issues that impact everyday Canadians and put social issues aside.

The amount of people still saying "this is trudeaus fault" makes me think that this is very optimistic thinking.
Blame lies solely on one person. There is not a single government in Canadian history that can be blamed for any negative impact on the relationship with the US.

It’s not all of Trudeau fault but it sure as hell is trumps fault.

I have to say, for the first time in a very long time, I’m impressed with Trudeau. He stood his ground, went to bat for Canada, and got the job done. Sure, in 30 days, Trump could hit us with tariffs again, but overall, Trudeau and the Premiers came together, sent a message of unity, and got Trump to back down.

That said, what concerns me is the silence from our partners and allies. The UK was dead silent, where was the King? He’s our head of state, and last I checked, we’re still part of the Commonwealth. Again, it’s a massive wake up call for us as a country: we’re on our own and need to focus on ourselves while staying unified.

Well I mean how's he supposed to verify Mexico or Canada even did anything anyway... whole thing is beyond stupid.

A majority of Canadians said that they wanted to leave the monarchy, and now they're upset that Dad doesn't want to get involved when his two children get into a spat?

We still are apart of it, and the USA isn't.
Regardless of that, people with character and strength are supposed to stand behind their friends when some piece of shit starts breaking off at them. I'd expect the same from allied countries.

What's with all the unfortunate camera angles when the crowd is booing the American anthem? lol...

At the Raptors game, the crowd is booing but it looks like they're booing the players wearing Black History Month shirts...

At the hockey game, it looks like they're booing a black woman in a wheelchair... lol

To be fair, the crowd booed during the anthem but right when it ended they cheered the woman.

Some of us have made the comment that the US can't be trusted, and I both agree and disagree with the sentiment. On one hand, US foreign policy has always been steadfast on one and only one thing -- US interest above everything else, and right now, the sentiment still holds true before and after the tariffs are postponed. So in that sense, I agree that the US cannot be trusted.

On the other hand, I also feel it is important to make the distinction that a better statement should be -- the current US under the direction of the Trump administration cannot be trusted. This Orange bastard is ready and willing to throw a long time partner and ally under the bus on a whim if he so feels like it. There is no reason or logic behind his decisions -- Trump does not make sound decisions based on facts on the ground, nor events in reality. He lives in his own little world, and his reality is whatever he believes in.

We have certainly had our quarrels with the US throughout the years, but overall, I'd say the US have generally been a reliable enough partner that we can count and rely on. In particular, I think it is wrong to consider Americans to be our enemy -- they are just not that, at least not 1/2 of the American population.

In 4 years' time when the next US presidential election comes, I hope we can have a better relationship with our southern neighbour. I wouldn't even mind if Felon 47 just sudden croaks, and let Vance step onto the plate.

You sure about that man? JD Vance is a fucking dangerous looney himself.

This is a comedy sketch, but check out his comments starting at 2:20... this is WAY before he was picked as VP.

If you can stomach it, watch the entire interview, the guy's a complete and utter piece of shit and a cruel son of a bitch on top of it all.

What sucks is right when we need Trudeau most, and he's actually capable of it, he's leaving

Conservative leaders would fly down there and beg him to at least spit on it first

You are right -- Vance is as much of a nutjob as Trump is.

It has really only been 2 weeks, but I am already so disgusted with Trump that I was almost willing to see him get swapped out for something else.

And no, there is no way I can stomach the full interview.

The British Monarch is never supposed to voice an opinion on political matters. The Queen never commented about Brexit or whatever dumb shit was going down domestically in the UK. Sure as hell her son isn't going to comment on the dumb shit cumming out of Trump's pie hole every day. That being said, the UK PM is already the target of president Elon's machinations probably didn't want to get in the crosshairs again.

I'm hoping he loses senate majority halfway through his term... which is highly likely at the rate he's going.

Not that he's going through the senate for anything these days....

Or he could just die. That would be the best.

I figure he/Republicans lose both House and Senate at the mid-terms but I have faint hopes that the Democrats can muster a strong response to Trump. They have a leadership team composed of mostly senior citizens who think decorum and politeness is still mandatory. This is a peace time leadership team when we need a war time leadership team that will fight fire with fire and use language that resonates with citizens.

They should be going: Trump and his supporters are coming for your lives, your jobs, your families, your money and they don't care what it costs so you better fight back.

It's less about protecting democracy or maintaining America's role in the world - that's toast now. Make it personal.
