Markets might think that US getting out of Ukraine is a good thing. Small number of Republicans have always balked at the billions thrown in that direction and threatened not to vote in support of more funding to Ukraine.

I'm hearing more and people harp about "realism" and that Trump is simply an extension of that ideology.

The idea being that his inner administration truly believe that America is weak in relation to China, and that being stuck in a quagmire funding Ukraine, feuding with Russia, dabbling in the Middle East, is merely weakening them from the primary objective, that being China.

It's a fascinating thought, but it's also odd to completely ostracize yourself from your allies, fundamentally another tenant of that realism thought process is that allies simply don't matter, power does, and allies are irrelevant.

It's quite the pivot from a foreign policy perspective.

That was an appalling and disgusting display by Trump and Vance. Made me sick to my stomach seeing how they were treating a guest and leader of another country.

I used to feel sorry for russian neighbours and now I need to feel sorry for the rest of us living next to US under their term based on their behaviour over the last month.

I’ll 100% admit I’m pretty niece in what is actually happening down south. I started out saying I can’t possibly believe everything in regards to clearing out inefficiencies is pure evil. Well I won’t deny you have a much deeper knowledge of the subject. My opinion is correct for situations that I know. Whether they are one off or otherwis, you may not know everything.

Edit: I should say it was an oversimplified statement, but I don’t “think” I was missing the point, at least in my head.

How does one request extra funding? If you have a senior director/head, beg/plead/prove your case through them. If you have new initiatives, you present to counci request funding.. If it’s a yearly increase based on inflation/or payroll contracts? I have no idea…. Perhaps explain your process, as unless you want to get into the nit and gritty I don’t think it’s all that complicated. The point is, people don’t want to decrease their budget unless they have reason too.

They trapped Ukraine and invited Zelenskyy only to make a fool out of him. But, just when you think it can't get any worse, it does with this administration.

The thought has just crossed my mind, and I'm sure it must have come up in some of yours as well -- I'm sure nobody would consider the current outcome to anywhere close to being good for Ukraine and Zelensky. But in retrospect, could Zelensky have conducted himself any differently to obtain a more favourable outcome for Ukraine?

I keep coming back to the same thought, or maybe just hope, that this will be little more than a temporary glitch in the US' long and storied history. Trump has 4 years, and while we have already seen how much damage can be done in a mere 4 weeks, he would still have to go soon enough. This isn't Putin ruling for 25 years, nor the Communist Chinese Party being in power for 100+ years. The World could be a drastically different place when Trump steps down in 4 years' time, but that time would still come.

So let's not lose hope. If we can ride out the pandemic, we can ride out this Trump-demic too.

No because Trump wants him to cede sovereign Ukrainian land to Russia
