I’d think anyone with literary leanings would have been able to “read the room” and figure out this isn’t Reddit or 4chan and it’s not even the RS it used to be back in the day.

There like 30ish(?) active users here nowadays, most of whom are friends and meet up semi-regularly in real life and it’s become a place for mostly likeminded people to hang out and discuss various topics and chitchat.

Nobody wants to argue about what’s real or not real. We all have our own lives and doing reasonably well and everyone has challenges, but as you may have ascertained in your own life of being “woken up” or whatever YOU want to call it involves going down your path, thanks but no thanks. Posting on here isn’t going to change anything you care about changing. Call everyone a bunch of sycophants or simpletons or anything you like, it doesn’t change the fact we’re all leading decent lives and are decent people and having net positive effects on the people directly around us on a daily basis instead of pretending we can control the direction of humanity as a whole, though one would hope net positivity rubs off on people and does form a movement of its own.

When I came back in the door, I did not see any sign that said I needed to ascribe to any particular policital leaning to voice an opinion. The Canada I grew up in valued diversity, including diversity of thought. I thanked SkinnyPuppy for unbanning me and I said I would post less and be more reasonable. One thing I've noticed is that when you spend your life with (white male) privilege, other people being offered equal opportunities seems like oppression by comparison to your previous experience. It helps to look at things with a little perspective and say "am I really being put beneath these people?" 99.9% of the time, if not 100, it's pretty easy to see that's a no. It's just math man. For every indigenous person that has had that life 100 white kids have.
Do I think governments should be putting programs in place to help marginalized white kids succeed as well? Fuck yes I do. People should be able to pursue education regardless of financial upbringing. Poor white kids deserve every opportunity as well, but if you look at a well parented, middle class indigenous kid, compared to the same upbringing white kid, there do need to be things in place that give the indigenous person the same chance, because in the hiring world, history shows it DOES make a difference what background and race/ethnicity the person walking through the door for an interview is.

Government policy is what made people unequal in the first place, so yes it is their job to fix it.
