A letter from Democrats minority leader Hakeem Jeffries to Cheeto.
I wonder if Cheeto actually read this letter or just deleted it? https://jeffries.house.gov/2025/03/2...etary-hegseth/
Letter to President Trump re: Secretary Hegseth
Dear President Trump:
Pete Hegseth is the most unqualified Secretary of Defense in American history. His continued presence in the top position of leadership at the Pentagon threatens the nation’s security and puts our brave men and women in uniform throughout the world in danger.
The so-called Secretary of Defense recklessly and casually disclosed highly sensitive war plans—including the timing of a pending attack, possible strike targets and the weapons to be used—during an unclassified national security group chat that inexplicably included a reporter. His behavior shocks the conscience, risked American lives and likely violated the law.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth should be fired immediately.
Sincerely,
Hakeem Jeffries

I don't understand why people mostly seem to be focusing on Pete Hegseth when there are other people in the Signal group chat as well. Everyone in the group should have know that Signal wasn't the gov-approved medium to conduct this sort of sensitive discussion, so anyone that has posted anything in the group has already violated security policy, and should be disciplined for the amount of involvement they were in.
In particular, Pete Hegseth, Vance, Stephen Miller, and Michael Waltz should all be fired for severely violating national security protocol given the amount of involvement they had. Witkoff and Rubio should also have known better than to participate in the group.

What seems lost in the sauce here also is their comments and utter disdain towards their European allies, those comments from Vance and Hegseth regarding Europe were pretty insane to say the least.
Compound that with the fact that Witkoff was meeting with Putin as the same time these comments were being thrown around, fucking hell, what a way to throw relations back by 20 years.

Hegseth's violation was the worst of the group as it means he had Signal installed on his govt issued laptop (so he could cut and paste information) but the rest of the group all were aware of the rules and that what they were doing was illegal (there was even a reminder in Feb to NSA staff to not use Signal).
The level of criminality of this administration is just incredible - they're committing so many crimes daily that it's not possible to keep track of it all and people are just exhausted from being outraged all the time. Meanwhile the Democrats have a leadership team that doesn't know how to fight - Schumer and Jeffries are not good enough for this battle.

Full text of the signal chat for Yemen war plans was published because Trump kept saying it was not classified info https://www.removepaywall.com/search...ldberg/682176/
Edit: VP Vance had hesitations against the strike because it would help Europe more than the US (40% of European trade flows through the Suez Canal/red sea) which VP "hated bailing out Europe again" , and the only reason for doing this was for the President to "send a message".
Also funny how concerned they were to delay the strike "in case the plans leak and they look indecisive", instead the plans leaked and they look incompetent.

I don’t think most people care unless it’s impacting gas or egg prices, retirement plans, nor property values, or their ability to not get locked up by ICE.
I think dems should be stronger on eggs prices and stock market crash due to tariffs.
I also think dem states/cities need to get upzoning done because they're going to lose a ton of electoral seats to red states in the upcoming election.

There's maybe a dozen Dems who are fighting the fight - AOC, Mark Kelly, Bernie etc but the leadership team, particularly Schumer, is pathetically just giving up. No Dem should have voted for the CR to keep the gov't up and running, they gave up tonnes of leverage for the fear of being blamed for the shutdown.
The Republican communications operation is so much more effective than the Dems and they've been that way since the late 80s. They've also out executed at every level of govt - they've converted the courts and won nearly all the major battles there, they've gerrymandered so they win elections, they've got a news network that's entirely about lies and outrage that brainwashes people. It's incredible. I applaud it despite how utterly evil it is.

Two comments:
1) Yeah, Dem messaging is weak and poorly executed. Terrible stuff!
2) Americans rarely consider foreign threats, while people abroad often highlight the U.S.’s global impact.
When I travel, others frequently discuss America’s problems; Americans, by contrast, tend to see foreign events as having little impact on daily life.
The market is so big that it's largely self-reliant and domestic policy and action can overcome most of what is going on overseas.
Food security (eggs), tourism (Florida), and rare resources (Neon for chipmaking) are really the only dependencies.
- 6k Toyota/Subaru markup? Just get the Subie from Florida or Toyota from a Midwest dealer
- Tariff? EQB and Ioniq are still leasing at 250/month
- Gas prices? We'll ruin our groundwater with fracking and saturate the market before Canada/China can ship LNG
- War in Ukraine and people not buying F35? It's still the only 5th gen & now have 6th gen F47.
- Chip shortage? INTC has capacity and we now have TSMC
- Housing crisis? We will reserve currency our way out of it and build so much that rent decreases 20% in Austin

I know it was rookie/amateur move to use group chat and leaked ... but this is nothing compared to Jan 6 and look what happened. Don't waste your righteous anger energy on this, in the bigger picture, it was an attack on Yemen for the vermin group who pirates ships. As someone alluded to .. no one cares.

I think the question really becomes.... is something gonna become so screwed up that the Republicans lose their lead in messaging and among young/old voters?
In Canada, that was Liberals and housing. But at the same time.... we have seen an "irrecoverable" messup from Trudeau get recovered by PP shitting the bed on the Trump response

As someone alluded to .. no one cares. | I'm not sure that Signalgate isn't worse than J6 or at least fairly comparable. As a single incident no but as a broader pattern of behaviour and evidence of competence maybe yes?
- How else have they compromised national security? In particular, how often have they put US soldiers at risk by their actions?
- Who else have they leaked information to? (One member of the chat was at the Kremlin when the chat was happening)
- How could any member of the chat could believe that this was appropriate behaviour and what other forms of illegal activity were they engaged in?
Conservatives love to talk big about caring about the military but they don't actually support the troops the way Liberals do. Even if this wasn't Trump they'd still poo-poo putting soldiers at risk - it's not their kids that are being put in the line of fire.

Pretty much everything politicians on either side say and do is hypocritical if you have time to dig through and compare things.
The current Republican govt is so troubling because they don't even wait hours sometimes to say something completely hypocritical, just change the narrative to whatever suits them at any given moment.

Cheeto's latest announcement on tariffs: https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2025/0...ffs-trade-war/
U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday to impose 25 per cent tariffs on all automobile imports to the United States on April 2, a move the White House claims would foster domestic manufacturing but could also put a financial squeeze on automakers that depend on global supply chains.
“This will continue to spur growth,” Trump told reporters. “We’ll effectively be charging a 25% tariff.”

If the USA tariffs work the same as Canadian ones do, used cars are included at full tariff.

On the positive side imported cars will now be cheaper in Canada than the US. Maybe be can get some more allocations on high end cars with some US customers cancelling orders.

He's lucky he hit the window before Apr 2 anyway, glad he got some help. Dude already took a huge hit on exchange rate too. Curious to see if USA will include used vehicles with their tariffs into the country... if they don't that's a huge opportunity for people selling foreign made cars in Canada to sell to Americans at a pretty massive premium.
