K, so is one positive about this list of countries who got hit by tariffs that companies who use sweat shops in places like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, etc. be punished and maybe they will be forced to move their factories to USA? I mean it wouldn't be a bad thing, if that happened, would it?
Yes, I know Trump is not doing it because he cares about environmental concerns.
How many Americans want to work in a god damn textile factory? How many want to work in a factory in general? How many businesses want to pay US minimum wage for these workers? How many Americans want to pay $80 for a basic t-shirt? I'd bet the numbers for all is fucking close to zero.
Yes but who wants to work these jobs? Who is going to pay for these jobs? This dumb fuck is still living in the 70s when people had a factory job that could put food on the table and raise a family. The country has moved on decades and is not set up to move backwards down the value chain. WHat's next? he's going to tarrif agricultural products to bring "Bring back Farm jobs to the US"??

If those factories move to the US they will never sell another product, unless, US completely unravels worker protections and wage standards, which is already happening in Florida with the removal of the minor workers protections that wouldn't allow people under 18 to work overnight. So good news. The US may get those factories back. Bad news is the people working in them will be getting paid the same as their Vietnamese counterparts that had the jobs before. Looks great for worker productivity though.
For example a fender standard strat made in Mexico is about $850
American standard is about $2200. Most people who play them back to back (professionals) will say either there is no difference or the Mexican strat plays better. 100% of that added cost is labour, and usually, it's worse.

Did you see how he calculated the other countries "tariffs'? It was just a percentage difference in trade volume (probably with a dubious inclusion criteria) with some kind of fudge factor based on their personal emotions they have for that country.
Plus, he was just holding some kind of presentation card as if they had a few kicking around and he grabbed that one. They had months (years?) to prep for "liberation day" and all they could do was have the President of the USA holding a card beside him that the camera's could hardly see?

Do I think Vivian is female? Honestly, no. But if that's how they want to be treated, I absolutely will, because it doesn't affect me negatively, it affects them positively, and I don't need to try and gotcha someone who's done nothing to hurt anyone. It's easy not to be a piece of shit for some of us, regardless of what we believe.

So Trump says he's setting tariffs at a rate of half of what they are charging on the US
He claims Vietnam is charging 90% tariffs on US goods.
Maybe there's a category where they are charging 90%. They actually dropped many, knowing this was coming. Natural gas dropped from 5% to 2%. Cars dropped to 32%, ethanol to 5%

Someone figured out that the numbers he used for "Tariffs charged to USA" are simply the trade deficit percentages of each country, with a minimum of 10% (for the countries where there is actually a surplus) This explains why countries like Singapore who have (well, had) a free trade agreement and thus no tariffs were on the list. I'm not sure why Russia is not there though.
