For some reason this doesn’t bother me at all. He can call me peasant all he likes!
Badhobz is my 2025 hero. Lives like a king. Accepts being called and labeled a peasant. Goes to foreign countries to buy properties. What a nice subtle F U to society.

Over time, it has become clear that the Chinese Dream consists of "realizing a prosperous and strong country, the rejuvenation of the nation and the well-being of the people". The Chinese Dream has been presented as a comprehensive concept that consists of four parts:
a Strong China (economically, politically, diplomatically, scientifically, and militarily); a Civilized China (equity and fairness, rich culture, high morals); a Harmonious China (amity among social classes); and a Beautiful China (healthy environment, low pollution).

I think it is fair to say at this point that this kind of border control behaviour by US border agents has now become part of the norm. It doesn't mean it happens often -- in fact, it is still exceedingly rare bcos the overwhelming majority of people travelling into the US have no problem doing so. Still, detaining people who have expressed dissent towards the gov's stance, and expelling them from the country whenever possible is happening on a recurring basis now.
And what the US is doing now is in fact worse than what China generally does to everyday people that criticizes the gov bcos for the most part, China doesn't care about small time, regular folks expressing dissent towards the Communist gov. Until you start organizing, or amassing a following, they don't really care because you are not a threat.
What is this China now? No wonder US human rights and democracy rating has been downgraded.

I'm asian, my boss is Muslim, my co worker is white female who's a snowbird. When we travel to vegas for a conference, we are worried. The rule right now, is if we at anytime we are told to give out our phones, we have the right to abort the trip. HQ mgmt is aware and understands.
“Surrey Schools has directed our schools and staff to pause booking future travel to the United States, certainly for the remainder of this year and looking into next year,” said District Superintendent Mark Pearmain.
“We really want to make sure that our students are safe, and we are home in Surrey Schools to a lot of students who are not necessarily Canadian citizens or might be here on permanent resident cards or others. We are concerned they could experience some possible challenges,” he told 1130 NewsRadio.
Pearmain says Surrey Schools is suggesting teachers and school-based administration consider field trip opportunities within British Columbia and Canada first.
^ news is saying, bring a burner phone for US trip
Did you ever think in your lifetime, it would come to this? To the effin US of A ?? Not talking Liberia, China, or Afghanistan ... our neighbour that we used to drive through border with our DL if you forget your Canadian ID.
My pal just spoke with one of his VC contacts in SF who happens to be a Canadian of Indian descent who says people are just being abducted in plain sight nowadays (not in SF yet but elsewhere that he has been). If you're brown better hide is his advice.

pretty crazy.
I dont get it, You have to give up your phone to Canadian authorities too. And US Customs can ban you for 5 years if you decide to suddenly abort and look suspicious.
I crossed the US twice last week and its the same. US customs in Canada are chill, US customs in mexico maybe more authoritative.
The right to search your phone before you cross the border has always been on the books in the US. It's just never been enforced to degree that has been since Trump's election.
Entering a foreign country has always been a privilege, not a right.
Same in your TH or condo complex, there is a kind of respect, etiquette, and privacy between units but after a while, you develop a kind of special friendship with your neighbour to your left and right where trust gives you certain mutual 'benefits'.

I'm not just aborting at the airport and looking suspicious. Anyone has the right to turn back.
It's all the media BS. I told my boss to stop worrying. No one really cares about your phone. I don't care what they look at. I don't care if they pull up RS and look at all the I hate trump.
It's just a huge scare; for some sure. For normal citizen, i don't give a crap to be honest. at lesat my HQ is ok and understand some people might not be comfortable.

I am legitimately curious on this -- let's say you bring a burner phone to cross the border. The US border agent checks your phone, and sees that it doesn't have the FB app on it. Would they go through the trouble to look you up on FB just to check your FB feed?
Obviously, I have zero desire to find this out first hand lol~

I am thinking that the U.S. Border officers are gonna be so busy checking American citizens to see how much stuff they buy in Canada as part of the tariffs imposed on our goods, that they won't have that much time to check people's FB feeds.
Those officers would need to check the trunks of American's vehicles to see how many eggs, other groceries, electronics, prescription drugs (Ozempic?), and anything else Americans can buy cheaper in Canada compared to America.
