I'm democrat leaning, but it doesn't mean I support whoever the Dems push out as a candidate. And I, for one, can't stand how hypocrite Biden can seem on some topics. It's like he has no regard to the reality whatsoever and just say whatever shit he thinks as long as he can get vote.

That in my book is a big no-no.

I'd rather have a genuinely petty person as US president than having a hypocrite because at least he is genuine and his actions are true and single direction. Someone like Biden would simply swing with his votes; just because a million people say something is right, doesn't make it right. And that is as dangerous as a politician can be IMHO. Because that very point is what make social justice SO FUCKED UP these days.

I elect a politician so that they can provide a direction, regardless I agree or not with that direction because I know I can't always agree with someone. I vote for someone who I MOSTLY AGREE WITH. Not for him/her to be constantly changing and certainly NOT whether it's the party I support or not.

Take Obama for example, he can be extreme when it comes to his charm and ideology, but he follows that to his heart and every decision he makes. That's perfect. He might not have done things I can always agree to, but he's ALWAYS the same. Same is with Trump... I don't always agree with his redneck style... but at least I know he's like a redneck and will make every decision as a redneck.

Biden on the other hand....

So legit question: as a consequence of your reasoning, you would indirect support Trump. That sits right with you?

Unfortunately, US only had these 2 major candidates and in a situation like this, it's about choosing the lesser evil.

Trump is a guaranteed 5/10 president, while Biden can be anywhere between 0/10-10/10. Expected values are the same. But as human nature, you pick the value with more certainty rather a greater outcome with lesser certainty.

If I was American, I would seriously move to Canada for the next 5 years because it's either Donald Duck or Bumbling Biden. Regardless of outcome, next 5 years looks bleak.

Seriously, they should blow everything up and start all over again. What a failed experiment of democracy and capitalism.

The US is more divided than I ever remember it being in my lifetime. My friends down there are genuinely embarrassed of their country. Granted, they are my friends so chances of their views being similar to mine are high, so my view of how people really feel about it down there could be distorted, but its been awful to watch. I honestly don’t think I’ll set foot in their country for a long time.

How do you guys think the on-going protests / riots will affect Trump Trump's chances in the election?

Under normal circumstances, social unrest gets blamed on the incumbent government. But of course, given the way 2020 has been going, the times are anything but normal.

I think what we've learned from the last few elections, it's almost impossible to predict. The way the Republicans are actively gerrymandering counties, along with various courts passing further voter suppression rules, it's truly hard to say.

We could see an election with Biden winning 5 million or more of the popular vote, and still lose the electoral college.

At that point, I really think all bets are off.

Quote:
Donald Trump has slammed the state governors as “weak” during a fiery call where he implored them to crackdown on protesters taking to the streets in cities across the United States.

The president’s harsh words during a video teleconference on Monday was between himself, state governors, law enforcement, and national security officials. Cities across America experienced mostly peaceful, but sometimes violent, protests in the last six days following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.

“Most of you are weak,” Mr Trump said. “You have to arrest people.”

He added the state governors would look like “jerks” if they didn’t get a handle on their cities.

“You have to dominate, if you don’t dominate you’re wasting your time,” he said. ”They’re going to run over you, you’re going to look like a bunch of jerks. You have to dominate.”

In recent days, the president has focused on law and order to handle protesters, including deploying the National Guard to states like Minnesota. He told local officials on Monday they must “get tougher” in managing the protesters, adding they should “track people” and put them in jail for ”10 years” so “you’ll never see this stuff again”.

“We’re doing it in Washington, DC We’re going to do something that people haven’t seen before,” he said.

Washington DC also experienced trouble with protesters, though, as multiple buildings were set on fire across the district over the last couple of evenings and people surrounded the White House. Mr Trump was taken into an underground bunker on Friday evening by Secret Service agents, The New York Times reported.

Minneapolis was a target of the president’s fury after protesters were left largely on their own Thursday evening as they burned the Minneapolis Police Department’s third precinct. The city then employed tougher action against the protests for the evenings following.

“What happened in the state of Minnesota ...They were a laughingstock all over the world,” Mr Trump added about heightened protests, according to CNN. “I’ve never seen anything like it, and the whole world was laughing.”

He praised Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Defence Secretary Mark Esper for getting control of the situation on the call, The Washington Post reported.

“Minnesota was an experiment. First part was weak and pathetic. Second part was domination,” Mr Trump added.

Attorney General Bill Barr was also on the teleconference with the president and the governors. He reportedly told governors they needed to “dominate” the streets and go after “troublemakers” instead of reacting to crowds.

On the call, the president also encouraged for states to pass laws that would prevent people from burning American flags in protest, a position he’s previously brought up during past protests.

“I’m not a believer in flag-burning,” the president said on the call. “And I would think that if a state wanted to try to pass a law that you’re not allowed to burn flags, with a certain punishment -- a strong punishment -- I would think that the United States government would be backing you up all the way.”

Flag burning has previously been determined a form of symbolic speech, a freedom awarded in the First Amendment, by the Supreme Court.

State governors responded back to the president on the phone call, with some slamming Mr Trump's rhetoric for only escalating the violence and anger among Americans.

Governor J.B Pritzker of Illinois was one ot speak out against the president, according to CNN, saying: "I have been extraordinarily concerned with the rhetoric coming out of the White House making it worse. People are feeling real pain out there. We have to have national leadership in calling for calm.”

Mr Trump has not appeared in public since Saturday after he attended the launch of the SpaceX rocket in Florida. His schedule on Monday lists no public appearances. But the president did speak with Russia President Vladimir Putin on Monday before his teleconference with state governors.
You have a president that calls protests over racism and police brutality a "laughing stock"
You have a president that glorifies violence against protestors
You have a president threatening punishments for protestors that rival the punishment for murder
You have a president who is blaming governors for the crumbling of the country
You have a president that hides in his bunker while his country is burning
You have a president that is threatening to remove your first amendment rights

You don't have a president. HE is a laughing stock.

I'm not sure you realize, but all the protests, which are heavily based in dem-leaning/dominant area will simply push votes to Trump right? Because all these protests are heavily against conservative values and it would do 2 things: push all the light conservative leaning people to vote to Trump if there was any doubt and light liberal-leaning to either vote Trump or simply not voting.

Why do you think Trump isn't saying a thing? First, it's not in his right. US laws made it very strict so that a president doesn't have over-reaching power when it comes to state matter (president is a FEDERAL position). Trump can elect to issue National Emergency, but that'd mean his actions would be nationwide and doesn't seem to be the case now.

To some extent, I agree with Trump on the issue. These governors are not doing their jobs by allowing the protests to get out of control. You can check the details, but I believe most of the big cities where major havoc is happening are democrats.

They have right to protest, but there is NOTHING in the constitution or the law that grants the right to loot and wrecking havoc if one's tired of the government.

It's the governors' responsibility to bring orders to their state. And Trump and his team are probably laughing so hard now. Dems can't stop it because of their "liberal" causes and the worse it gets, by the time it needs the "president" to step in, Trump would look like the hero in the story.

Hehe I think you are really missing a large portion of self awareness when you called yourself left leaning in some of your previous posts.
Read the article and read about the flag burning when I am speaking about the first amendment. It has nothing to do with what you refute in your argument about the looting.
It is the presidents job to bring a country to order when there is unrest. He’s the top of the chain. If shit hits the fan in the kitchen a chef can’t go say all of his cooks suck.
Trump is saying plenty of things. Check his Twitter. There’s nothing to do with “laws preventing his over reaching”
Also your comment about “protests being against conservative values.” Conservative values are supporting systemic racism? There’s a fucking serious problem if a bunch of protests against police brutality against people of colour goes against someone’s core values.

I think we are discussing different POV, although I'd recognize they are all valid. However, do you really think this is about what's right and what's wrong? I think not... it's all about votes. And it's the same in the US, here in Canada and every country where voting means a thing.

The whole idea of protesting for a cause is really a liberal thing. Do you know what happens when the rednecks (aka the hardcore conservatives) want to make a statement? They barricade themselves up with heavy weaponry and declare them as militias.

What do you expect a Republican president to do in this position? It's an election year for crying out loud. He isn't going to do anything to anger his voters. This IS THE VERY SAME POINT why democrat controlled cities would continue to allow this to happen. Because they DON'T WANT to ANGER THEIR CORE VOTERS.

Unfortunate... sure. But nothing unexpected. Be it Trump or Biden, or if it were to happen here in Canada, they would have done EXACTLY the SAME thing.

This is certainly a problem with democracy, where what voters want, or at least what's getting them the votes is what counts.

We can argue all we want on what's morally correct and what's not. At the end of the day, it all comes down to what they care the most.

Nevertheless, I'm here to argue that I don't see any merit in the looting or any violence, including to what the fucked up cop did to Floyd. You want to make a statement, make it heard and then have a dialogue. This is the essence of democracy. It has its inefficiencies, however, it's MILES better than some clown with power just decide whatever the fuck he wants REGARDLESS what PEOPLE REALLY WANT. For example... what's going on in HK. China just say fuck kongers and fuck the Sino-Brit treaty... Let's do what CCP want.

The result is all the same: to stay in power. The difference is that Trump does what his voters care about, Biden or Dems do what their voters care about and CCP, OTOH, does what IT cares about.

No, they wouldn't want to anger their core voters by putting a stop to this madness.
The people supporting this "protest" don't give a shit about anything but their own self righteousness.

It's definitely not a failed experiment of capitalism. It's more like not being capitalist that's the problem.

When government and big businesses come together to create policies that benefit both parties at the expense of others, that's the opposite of capitalism. It's crony capitalism.

Ding Ding! The Most Racist Congressman in America Just Got Beat.
Iowa will have to make do without Steve King.

Next January, for the first time in years, the most racist man in Congress will be someone other than Steve King. The nine-term Iowa Republican congressman, an anti-immigrant conservative who was stripped of his committee assignments by his own party after defending white nationalism in the New York Times, was defeated by state Sen. Randy Feenstra in Tuesday’s primary.

King’s overt racism made him a notorious figure on Capitol Hill, and was the justification for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s decision to remove him from the House agriculture and judiciary committees in January of 2019. But his views were never a secret, and as I wrote earlier today, Republicans in Washington never seemed to have much of a problem with him until it looked like he might finally cost them a seat, and Republicans in Iowa stayed on board until he was no longer capable of doing the job:

The First Amendment guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. It also guarantees the right of citizens to assembly peacefully and to petition their government.

I saw that horror show on Monday of a U.S. president who violated the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution so that he can have a photo-op in front of St. John's Episcopal Church. A pathetic coward who calls peaceful protesters "thugs", when he abuses his authority to hurt Americans, and violate their rights to assembly just to flex his power in front of a church. He is the true thug who held a Bible upside down as a prop in order to use religion to project power.

All my American cousins in California, Arizona, and Florida cannot wait until they can vote on November 3rd to vote for Joe Biden in order to try to vote Trump out of the White House.

Trumpty is facing a large revolt from former US Defense secretary, former general James Mattis and former joint Chief of Staff Mike Cullen.

Props to the current Defense secretary Mark Esper for showing the courage to make a public statement to contradict Trump's threat of using military force under the Insurrection Act of 1807.

It is time for the US to unite at the grassroots level against division and racism. Healing for that country needs to come from the American people. That pathetic, power hungry, evil coward in the White House does not serve the Americans as an elected public servant. He serves himself by sowing seeds of division in the U.S.

According to US park police, the protesting wasn't so peaceful.
Judging by the high amount of damage sustained in the area, and it's proximity to the Whitehouse, I tend to believe them.
