I think this was amplified 10 million fold in the states for this election. I guarantee you a fairly sizeable portion of the US population were trying to hold down their lunch as they marked their ballot red, however, many probably felt like that was the only choice to be made. | But in the US, they could've still voted red for the house/senate while voting for someone else for president, unlike here in Canada.
That is the most baffling thing to me. I know most politicians bend the truth or not be transparent in order to win votes, but it seems that Trump just straight up make up shit, no matter how big or small.

- Some are really suffering from the effects of the economy, specifically inflation. The lack of a social safety net and low wages for entry level workers in the US is a real killer for them. These people just want change as it seems like the guy in charge doesn't care or isn't capable enough - it doesn't matter how bad a person Trump is, they want something new.
- Some are just ignorant. Witness the spike in searches on election of day of "who is running for president?" "did Biden step down?" etc. They don't know basic economics or politics. The less education you have the more likely you vote for the Republican - that's been true for a long time.
- Some are into grievance politics. They see people different from them and they want to hate them and anyone who shows the same anger as them gets their vote even if the actual policies are bad for them (cutting food stamps or medicaid). These are often disenfranchised white males and religious southerners.
I don't agree with the sentiment that it's the liberals who got focused on woke/social issues - it's the right who turned things like abortion, gay rights, transgender people in washrooms, sex education, banning books in schools into issues. They looked for the drama and used it to stir up hate and fear. They created fake stories of "men" going into women's washrooms - Trump would talk about kids getting sex changes at school without their parents approval.
Do I think liberals don't talk about their economics success enough? Yeah, they consistently show better economic performance when they are in power but I don't think talking about universal health care or raising minimum wages got buried under woke issues. | What's ironic about your first point is that the republicans aren't exactly known for expanding social safety nets and increasing minimum wages...
Also agree about the focus on the woke/social issues. Other than the abortion issue, the LGBTQ issues were far more heavily brought up with false narrative scare tactics by the republicans.

None of that matters to more than half voters. For them what matters is who was in charge when eggs became expensive. | Yea. You’re absolutely right lol because why should they care about that?
Because they are good decent people? People eating dog food on food stamps do not give a fuck about those issues.
I think something we vastly underestimate here is how dire many people’s situations are in the states. There are levels of poverty and discontent we do not even come close to anywhere in Canada as much as I harp on that.

I am feeling it too on the other side of the planet; I even shared that in a post a few minutes ago.
Blaming the Democrats for it is what's dumb.

Blaming the Democrats for it is what's dumb. | Do people blame them or are they just convinced Trump is the better option? Will Trump put more money in their pockets? If that’s a yes then he gets the vote.
There is so much nuance to this election I think it’s hard to grasp the scope of why people vote for who they do.
At any rate the majority figure Trump provides a better future than Kamala

At any rate the majority figure Trump provides a better future than Kamala | So they are convinced he'd do a better job.. I guess that's just another way of saying the Dems didn't do a good job. If a lot of the people who voted in 2020 thought they did, they would have come back to vote again. But they didn't, and the non-whites and non-blacks who did come back switched sides.

At any rate the majority figure Trump provides a better future than Kamala | will trump actually put more money in their pocket or is that just an election promise? only time will tell. so far what i've seen from trump is a lot of promises and a lot of lies. par for the course for his entire personality.

No one outside of the bloody wonky partisan DC-sphere gave a flying fuck about January 6th. Most people looked at it as a bunch of goofies having a bit of a party. It wasn't a coup, the government wasn't even close to being overthrown, these idiots weren't organized in any meaningful manner to achieve that.
Whining about January 6th isn't a bloody platform, and I never understood why 4 years later the Democrats spent so much energy harping on about it as opposed to the real issues people are focused on. January 6th when polled to people didn't even fall in the Top 10 of major items. | Democrats were trolled into thinking that voters cared enough about these issues to win them votes. The lawsuits, the New York trial, the assassination attempt, all this played into Trump’s hand and used it against the Dems.

Food stamps are going to get cut, health care for the poor will be cut, nothing will happen with minimum wage while worker protections will get rolled back. Now that the Republicans control all 3 levels of gov't expect life to get real shitty if you're poor or working class.
The only safety net that won't get cut is social security b/c the seniors will riot on the Capitol and make Jan 6th look like a picnic.

This tweet is going around. Not sure if it's true but I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if it was. There's probably millions of voters in the same situation (looks like it's from just some guy, not one of those twitter clout chasers) |
