| Huawei P20 Pro
So I just got this phone, Twilight version from Hong Kong.
The color is not bad, but more novelty.
Camera is great, especially the Night Mode and the hybrid zoom. Other then that, unless you tinker with the pro mode, its not really all the impressive, at least for a people who take pics for social media.
The software is also not that great, over sharpening and sometimes failed AI detectable scenes. Im sure with some software update to the camera, it would be better.
Overall phone usefulness is pretty good. Screen brightness is not that great, sitting outside and with the brightness all the way up, was sometimes hard to see.
I do enjoy this over my S7 Edge and a great upgrade. If huawei improves the camera quality more, it would be good. Im just hoping huawei will be good with their Android updates but past track record indicates not.

+1 for me as I was due for an upgrade from my breaking down 6S Plus.
I got the blue finish and it's been nothing but great although, 1 small thing I have noticed is videos not fully fitted to screen size. For example, people's IG video stories are a tad bigger when I view them, first 1 or 2 words are always cut off but overall video is not compromised and still viewable
Guess wait for the next update to fix? |

Guess wait for the next update to fix? | I have the same issue for IG on my LG running oreo 8.0 as well.
I suspect it's something with the Oreo OS, never had issues with 7.0 till I updated recently to Oreo

From what my friend(who is a bit of a Huawei fan) told me, the P series is considered to be a prototype of the Mate series, so usually, they will get some feedback on the P series and improve the Mate series with the feedback.
My Mate 9 still works well enough and Mate 10 doesn't seem to add too much to the experience.
As for the camera, I have read something written by a Huawei employee on Zhihu(think a Chinese Quora) that Leica makes a lot of decisions for the camera. The guy admitted that some of the decisions are a bit questionable for normal folks. Not sure if that has anything to do with the camera problems.

what? that's typically how flagship electronic products work...the bleeding edge tech goes to the high-end model...next year or so it'll trickle down the product line...simple cost of being an early adopter

The Mate series is considered to be a bit superior, or at least equal to the P series.
Supposedly, the P series targets younger buyers under 30 while the Mate series targets those older than 30, but from what I have seen, since the P series comes out earlier than the Mate series(beginning of a year vs. the end of a year), the Mate is usually a bit more fleshed out and that's why I picked up a Mate 9 rather than waiting for the P10.

I bought one to finally replace my Lumia 1020. Can't believe I've been using a Windows phone for the past 5 years because of the camera.
IMO, the Lumia's photos are better than the P20 Pro but not by enough to justify continued use of Lumia.

no way a smaller sensor with slower aperature from 5 years ago could outperform modern offering....esp with phase detection & laser AF...also if the P20P has image processing anything close to Google's algo...it'll be lightyears ahead
I'm a Carl Zeiss brand whore but you can't cheat physics

It's just personal preference. The Lumia isn't as heavy handed with the processing so the colours don't pop out at you. I've also been looking at the Lumia's photos for the past 5 years so it's what my eyes are used to. The processing is also something Huawei can change with an update.
My work line over those 5 years were 2 iPhones, a S7 Edge and Note 8. I carry 2 phones with me and I found that if I want to take a picture quick, I'd grab my work phone but if I actually want to keep the photo, I use the Lumia.
I even considered keeping the Lumia and use the Huawei for work but it's time to let it go.

dear lord, the pixel pitch must be awful like the 808 pureview (40+ Megapixels on a small sensor)
