| Are these red light cameras real or fake
Does anybody know if these red light cameras are decoys or real. I noticed 4 of them at still creek and Douglas intersection and I counted around 100 of them along a short stretch on kingsway near metro town.
I can't really see any wires coming out of them and they look like cheap lorex camera bodies zap trapped to the pole.
I spotted one single real looking camera at royal oak and kingsway that looked like this, but all the rest looked like decoy cameras. Has anybody gotten a ticket from one of the small cameras? |

Here is a list of all of them: Red light cameras
I actually got caught by one of the few ones stationed in Vic. Rushed through an advance left turn signal as it turned red and got fined for that.
Judging from the angle of the photos it has taken, pretty sure it was high off the ground, right around where the traffic lights would be hanging, so those on the traffic lights could be legit.

The first two cameras are not red light cameras. The last one, yes.
Just an FYI https://blog.photoenforced.com/2012/...l#.Wxo1ai8ZP_Q

thought the cameras by the traffic lights were for monitoring traffic, like if a left turn signal should activate

^ pretty much it. They monitor the traffic and are in no way a threat to you.
Left turn lights are activated by a surface inlay sensor in the ground. The big circles you see in the lane that people sometimes say to move up because you weren't over the sensor and the light didn't go off etc.
I'm not sure what the sensor looks like but there's a bunch of traffic lights that also have an emitter on them to make the intersection lights go red in all directions in the event that an ambulance or fire truck is in the vicinity with it's lights on. I can't remember if it goes by the loud siren noise or if the vehicles have a gps sensor in them and when they get a call to a location it set's a pre-planned route for them and takes it from there seeing where they're at.

most are traffic cameras, my friend who is a cop in VPD told me. Example : Clark and 12th, i thought it was red camera but its for traffic (radio and tv stations) so it doesn't record.

I've seen so many people get flashed for passing red lights. There's one on boundary and 49th that I saw the other night. Guy was texting at 1am and then got flashed driving through a red without even realizing. I wonder if it's double if the camera caught him texting?

When you guys say traffic camera's, what does that mean?
They just tell authorities if there is congestion?

They just tell authorities if there is congestion? | They control the traffic lights by identifying which lanes have cars in them. The magnetic sensors aren't being used anymore. I've noticed sitting over a sensor in a turning lane doesn't activate the turning lane light anymore.

Why don't you just stop running red lights. You don't even get camera flash for running late yellows, so if the cameras are flashing, you're really running through reds.

His last name says it all..............
tried to use his last name in a coherent sentence for shits and giggles, but too tired to come up with a quick quip.

2. Emergency vehicles
Have you ever noticed those small white and blue lights perched on a traffic signal beam? They may not mean a lot to you, but they do to emergency vehicles.
signal_prempt_light
Many traffic signals are equipped with an emergency vehicle pre-emption device, which allows emergency vehicles to activate a green signal in the direction they are travelling. The most common ministry pre-emption device is triggered by the sound of the emergency vehicle’s siren. That’s when the white and blue lights come into play.
Since multiple emergency vehicles may approach an intersection from different directions at the same time, one direction is given priority. The white light indicates pre-emption granted in that direction of travel, while the blue light indicates the intersection is being controlled by an emergency vehicle approaching from another direction.
| All lights turn red for brief period of time until the light the emergency vehicle is heading towards turns green and by the time it hits the intersection it's already passed before the light can go green. I can't recall ever seeing one of these but there's a lot of crap at some intersections attached to the top of the green poles holding the lights. https://www.tranbc.ca/2014/01/30/5-t...ignals-change/ |
