I get the feeling monkey chants will be the least concern with this edition of the World Cup

Who you guys supporting vs who do you think will take it? Supporting Argentina even though it’s unlikely Messi will be able to carry them as far as last tournament. I think there’s a good chance either Germany will repeat or Spain with their adjustments in midfield. Despite Brazil’s poor semi performance against Germany last Cup it will be interesting to see if they redeem themselves this time around minus people like Fred and Hulk.

Hard to say at this point who'll have the best chance at winning the Cup. IMO, you really have to see how the teams perform and how the players jive with their teammates. Germany will always be a favourite to make it into the semi-finals (and England will probably crash and burn by either not making it into the knock out round, or at best get kicked out in the 1st stage of it), but beyond that, it is difficult to predict anything.

Just remember the NDP declined a no-commitment application for Vancouver to host the World Cup.

Good. FIFA is as crooked an organization as there is on the planet... and also your facts are totally wrong... it wasn't no commitment, it was committing to no restrictions whatsoever for FIFA and its money laundering/criminal higher ups to enter the country unabated.

Back to soccer/footy/football discussion | No commitment as in no putting tax payer money in and the option to back out penalty free before that time.
I'm no fan of FIFA and I am no fan of the IOC which they model themselves after, but I sure enjoyed the 2010 Olympics despite all that.

Going for Germany and France.
Spain and Belgium I think are strong threats as well. Peru is a team that could surprise a lot of people.

I think Brazil will take it all.
If they can hold it together, they're the most complete team in the tourney.
Arguably the best keeper this year, solid defenders, midfield is a little meh but you've got Coutinho, De Jesus and Neymar up front.
As a Spain supporter, the midfield is their greatest strength but that's bout it. Costa as the focus of attack is lulz and Iniesta has logged some miles.
Brazil or France...Though it's a little concerning that France could barely muster anything against a young US team in a friendly last week.
I think Germany will be out in the round of 16 unless Neuer finds his form quick and their offense clicks in the group stage.

At the last World Cup, CBC or CTV was live-streaming the games on a dedicated website. I wonder if they'd do the same?

Both Korea and Japan are kind of in a generational transition phase right now -- the experienced players are too old, the new kids are too young. This iteration of the World Cup would not be their chance to shine.

It was quite exciting.
