| Left turn post on Reddit
There's an interesting left turn question on Reddit and it appears 50% of people need to retake their road test. Which path would you pick? Red or blue? I've remade it with street view so it's clearer. |

Living in Richmond and primarily commuting in everywhere but Vancouver, I've only noticed this occurrence in Vancouver. So this was never actually taught to me or tested on (in Richmond). But my friend actually lives there and he told me to take blue line, (stop there if you need to) and that seems to be the norm. I remember it being super odd when I first did it.

Blue. You're technically on wrong side of the road with red path

You take the blue line, but it’s kind of hard to explain via text. But if you witness it in person it makes total sense
Edit: what peturbo said

The correct answer is parallel park in both lanes and walk away from your car to run your errands.

Blue if there's no traffic control signal. This is because when there's no light, cars can come from the sidestreets and occupy the intersection as well and face the correct path.
However, it changes if you add in some left turn lanes and maybe traffic lights like here. https://goo.gl/maps/uokXuxKxbGp
If the OP intersection was fully controlled by lights, I'm not entirely sure I would take the blue path though.

Obviously, if you're taking the red line, you'd position yourself through the turn to be on the correct side of the street as you enter the side street.

Not sure if this is a trick question... lol... The Reddit post asks where you would stop. I'm guessing they meant where you would stop to wait for traffic to clear. If that were the case, I wouldn't stop at the tip of either arrows. I was taught to not turn until you're actually going to turn. I'd be waiting in the intersection parallel with Cambie and not turn until the traffic is clear.
If no stopping involved, I'd take the blue line... Red if I was going to U turn.

I would take the red route, just because Ive been doing that throughout my whole life. If choose to go with the blue one, that person behind of me will follow through too and wouldnt that just cause a traffic jam for the oncoming traffic who wants to make that left turn...

If there is a wide-enough island, like Cambie, or Boundary, King Edward, E 1st Ave, etc, but unsignalized or flashing green (such as turning onto a cross-street) take the blue line. If it is signalized, take the red line.
If there is no island, just painted lines or narrow island, take the red line.

Just hog both the red and blue lines so there is no confusion and everyone will have to wait for you to clear the intersection.

I wouldn't take either, since that looks like a shit place to turn left.

IMO, the island isn't big enough. And for the sake of simplicity, I wouldn't going past the crosswalk until I have a gap to complete the whole turn.
We're here trying to decide whether to go in the red or blue path. The other side is thinking the exact same thing.
And then you end up having head on collision or it gets all backed up...
Yeah, just wait behind the crosswalk until you can make the turn.
