A lease is basically a glorified rental to begin with, if you're financing though at least you have a car at the end and not just a receipt.

Demand depending, I did rent a Chevy Sonic RS for around $220 for 15days back in March 2018.

Plan well ahead and reserve a car well in-advance.

Always start your rental on a Friday afternoon, or on a Saturday. Never start renting a car in the beginning of the week, due to high demand (?)

The headline is clickbait but there's some real meat in the article that outlines how the commissions are broken down. Some interesting stuff like how brokers get paid extra if they get the person onto a payment plan (since ICBC makes some interest off that).

Youd think if the cost was outragious, ICBC, or David Eby would be the first to tell you that brokers are being paid too much. It sounds like they're pretty happy with the deal.

And FWIW, the customer service reps at the desk at the brokage aren't being overpaid at all, and have a pretty complex job. Its one thing for someone to walk in and renew their one car with the same plan they've had for a decade (to and from work within 15km, 500, 500, 2million). But every time I walk into my broker to deal with my small business stuff Im there for over an hour and the broker is making 2-3 phone calls directly to ICBC to sort out issues with how vehicles and coverages and GVWs and coverages and principal operators, etc change. And if you consider that if they make even one small mistake, the customer can be driving uninsured. They're effectively navigating complex legally binding contracts that could have millions of dollars attached to them. They should be paid a lot more than they are.

BREAKING NEWS

Quote:
The Insurance Corporation of B.C. continues to hemorrhage money and is now on track to lose $1.18 billion this year.

The deficit is $290 million worse than ICBC estimated in December, according to third-quarter results released Thursday.

https://vancouversun.com/news/politi...lion-this-year
Looks like ICBC actually loses as much money with the NDP in charge as the Liberals even without pulling "brazillionz!!!1! of dollars" out of icbc. Notice Eby isn't placing the blame on the Liberals anymore. And is now fully committing to the real problem?

I do commend Eby for being brave enough to try to do something to cap the outrageous accident payouts.

The proposed injury claim changes / cap aren't happening until April 2019. And then the rate calculation methods aren't changing until Sept 2019. Until those changes kick in, ICBC is basically the same dumpster fire it has been under the Liberals reign.

Only an insane person would expect different results when none of the changes have happened yet.

To assess whether any of the NDP / Eby's ICBC changes have any effect to the overall financial health of the crown corp, we really need to wait at least a year or two before we have enough data to analyze those changes. But even then, there will still be a backlog of lawsuits that will not be cleared until they have gone through the legal process, and those will still continue to drain the ICBC balance sheet until they are all wrapped up.

$2340 for my Tundra.
It's a 2018 and I have full discounts.
Nothing special, $2 mill liability, and $300/$300.

Last year it was just over $2k

Just got my new rate. $2030. Went up $200 from last year, another $150 from the year before. I haven't moved, same car, no accidents or tickets, not in high risk age bracket. This is getting ridiculous.

sounds like a carbon copy of my insurance. the old cars haven't changed that much, but my wife's junky $5k on a good day e83 X3 keeps going up.

makes no sense. if my 97 M3 got wrecked I'd be looking for 20k, if the X3 got hit, I'd be happy with 6k

43% discount + 10 years driving
2017 370z base
$3 million / $1000 / $1000

Total $2760...
A new driver with 0 discount would be paying $4842 a year...... 6.5 years of insurance will be the cost of my vehicle

$3M liability should only be <$50 more expensive than $2M liability.

Also, bear in mind that with only a 10 yr driving history, your optional insurance savings are actually not that great despite the 43% discount BS. With optional insurance from ICBC, you continue to get discounts as you move further down the CRS.

Today I learned about Optional Insurance Savings.

Would this mean it would be beneficial to get optional insurance from 3rd party providors?

It might be. I got quotes from several private insurers for my BMW, all were higher than ICBC. But most of the private insurers were cheaper on my old Civic.

If you have time to get the quotes, it’s worth investigating.

Hey I have a 2015 civic basic. Besides googling "private car insurance vancouver" do you have any you would recommend?
