yea, the whole "55% are paying less by 100-200$ and 45% more by 200-300$" is hogwash. Seems like everybody is getting raped by hundreds more. Mine went from 1300 to 1700. BS

Also, seems there is now no way to see how making a claim will affect future premiums compared to the old chart where I was seeing exactly the outcome.

And if insurance follows people not cars (which is absolutely fine), why do people with 2 cars have to pay double if the same person drives it. Last time I checked I can't drive 2 cars at the same time.

is your insurance the exact same on two separate cars ($1700x2)? my 2nd vehicle renewal doesn't come up til next year

a discount for auto-braking is such BS, that's basically encouraging distracted driving (like Subaru's first off the line beep)

I wonder how much I would save if my car had autonomous braking...

Why wouldn't giant brembo brakes give a discount :-)

max discount, .55 driver report, no accidents 15+ yrs, with autonomous braking discount.... I still paid 80 dollars more this year. Don't get how anyone would be paying less yearly.

I thought there were going to be annual increases under the old system anyways. Making it a bit hard to tell what you would be paying now if the system hadn't changed.

Even the shittiest vehicles stock brakes should be able to lock up the tires for an emergency stop, if they can't they need to be fixed. If you're making enough emergency stops in a row that stock brakes would be cooked and a BBK are making a difference you're doing something wrong lol.

As stated numerously, you're paying more because ICBC rates were jacked up in April.

You are paying less more than under the previous system. It's misleading, but it's also the truth.

I get that, i'm referring to the ones that are actually paying less than the year before with the exact same coverage. Unless they got rid of some extra options, I am wondering how many more years they must have to be paying less.

Either way, I believe BC will now surpass ON by FAR. From what I can see from first hand examples, the "savings" for some are only 50-100$ a year, while increases for other are in the thousands.
Not to make this a bitchfest, but I would've paid 5.9k for my first year insurance (2 mil liability, 500 deductible for comp/collision) in Markham if I had grown up there instead (Got L and N basically ASAP, 06 V6 Accord)...

I paid 3.4k here instead for better coverage (3 mil, 500/500 deductible).

I was just talking to my coworker. He moved here from alberta where he was paying $140 a month to insure his M4. He insured here before Sept 1, he is now paying $440 a month to ICBC.

This scares me, especially when I'm considering buying a newer car. What's everyone paying for there $80-120K car?

Same colour as his too, lol. These must be the Mustangs of the Euro cars.

On the other hand, on a Chevy even when you turn off traction control and stabilitrak it's still on to some degree. You have to really go out of your way to completely shut it off.

I have a friend who's husband is about 10 years older than her, they initially saved about $40, but the autonomous braking discount gave them an additional $158 off!

I just hope my renewal doesn't go up.

Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) is a safety feature that uses technology to anticipate when a vehicle is about to have a front-end collision and automatically engages the brakes without the driver’s action.
orrrr just pay attention + keep your distsance

I did an online quote using my own driving record (20 years, no claims, no tickets), to/from work within 15 km, collision, and comprehensive on a 2015 M4 with a Calgary postal code and it was just shy of $3000/year.

$140/month is about $1700/year.

I’m having a difficult time believing his story.

Thing is, in Calgary you can literally shop for different/better rates.
And when I say shop, I mean SHOP.

The first year in Calgary, my GF and I were quoted something like 3k for insurance on our 97 Escort per year. After a bit of shopping, I got that down to about 1700/year from another place. Decent, but nothing spectacular.

When it was time to renew the insurance, I did more shopping and the following year found another broker offering the same level of insurance for just under 1k/year. If we were to stay in Calgary longer, I'm certain our rates would have dropped even further (no accidents, getting older so lower chance of accidents etc.).

only in BC do you get bent over with rates like that man

even in big US cities newer drivers 2-door college kid brands like Scion was like $50/mo (albeit much lower liability)

we're so used to taking a BBC up the ass that $250/mo for insurance, $200/mo gas, $6000/mo mtg payments starts looking normal

I was asked if my 2015 ecobox car had automous breaking. Looked like the autoplan rep had no clue. Should've said yes and get myself a free 10% discount.

Anyway, rate went up by $200... Their 56% of people will pay less is BS from what I'm reading here. There should be an inquiry made where those numbers come from

Misdeclaring AEB can lead to a breach.

My annual insurance premium went up by ~$200, which is roughly a 10% increase. I will probably be reducing my coverage and/or adding secondary drivers to my plan.
