A modified car is no indication of claims. I bet bone stock corolla’s cause way more accidents than a lowered s2000

The ratio of Corollas on the road versus the Honda S2000 is not exactly a fair comparison.

I’m betting ICBCs largest expenses are not due to vehicle damage, rather the medical payouts, loss of work and other claims which have nothing to do with modified vehicles. A bent wheel from a pothole is minimal. The one thing these new rules will do is certainly negate those claims from ever being claimed in the first place as your costs will now go through the roof. So much for insurance. Really I’m just paying so the idiot next to me still gets a payout when they screw up.

Or their moronic operations. Brand new, HUGE offices with tons of staff to do trivial shit like renew licenses. Has anyone renewed recently? Do you think you are unable to handle that if it was done online?
Paying massive commissions to brokers to click a few buttons to get an insurance sticker. Stupid.
Said it once before but it's important to understand how retarded this is. I can take a picture of myself eating sushi at Richmond Sushi, submit my picture online and renew my gun licenses on my phone while eating a phat ass Salmon roll.
A license which I can then use to go online and buy a huge shotgun and have Canada post deliver it to my door. It's 2020 in a few months and we still need MASSIVE offices like the one in Landsdowne and thousands of insurance brokers taking a cut to give me a god damn 2inch sticker. If this was any normal business, that shit would be the first to go and lop a massive chunk off your overhead.
It's like the exact opposite of Six Sigma.

The way ICBC does things in the back end would need to be changed for broker-less changes to work. I've had stuff get so mangled it took over an hour to get it sorted out properly.

^^ right, but what does the brocher do? CALL ICBC and let them figure it out. Why couldn’t we just call icbc if we had an issue and skip the middle man.
Any time there has ever been an issue renewing insurance, they just call icbc.

That time the brokers figured it out on their end. The person I go to is really good at sorting out the wonky stuff I bring them from time to time. But for a basic renewal I agree, there's no reason you couldn't do it online ahead of time and have everything mailed to you.

Really I’m just paying so the idiot next to me still gets a payout when they screw up. | According to ICBC’s documents, the average payout for a minor injury (eg whiplash) was approximately $30k in 2016 and approximately $50k for a major injury (eg broken bones).
Most people aren’t driving $30k+ cars and a single-vehicle crash could result in multiple injuries.

Same car, same coverage, no accidents or tickets. Drivers factor 0.587 - ICBC gives me an estimate $400 more than last year. FML
Time to call private insurance: - BCAA
- Bellair
- Coast Capital
Are there anymore?

I use Coast Capital as my brokerage, they said that there isn't any major savings if you are driving an old car. There are only savings if you have a newer car.

How much was a payout for the same injury back in 1990 or early 2000?

I honestly wAnder if people who are caught BSing are getting charged with fraud offenses.
Couple weeks ago a co-worker of mine was in his car waiting behind another driver to turn out of a driveway, onto a main road. The driver in front was slightly protruding onto the road, so she backed up and hit his front bumper, causing a fair amount of damage. She told icbc that he moved forward and hit her. They almost gave her the benefit of the doubt, but lo and behold, a security cam across the street was pointed directly at this intersection. Caught it clear as day.
I wonder if she'll be charged with fraud. Or if the only repercussion is the at-fault.
He had to source and retrieve the footage, btw. I don't think iCBC even attempted to find any.

Those type of things make me so mad, people today never take responsibility for their actions.
In my opinion, that lady should never be able to buy insurance for a vehicle ever again. Or at least 5 years or something, she has lost the privilege as far as I'm concerned.

I too wonder about fraud charges for simple lies like that.
For my accident, the guy at the scene admitted to coming into my lane and forcing me to crash my motorcycle. There were witnesses that corroborated the story as well as the ambulance driver on scene.
The next day ICBC calls me and tells me they spoke to him and he is now saying he was not involved and simply stopped to assist me when he saw me fall.
These people need to be punished.

The value of your car doesn't really affect basic because basic covers the other party.

| Considering speed limit has not changed or been reduced in some spots and car tech and safety has increased drastically over the years, the fender benders shouldnt cost that much injury compared to back in the 90s. Where you have metal bumpers and no airbags, and no crumbled zones. So why are ppl "more" injured in newer cars?

Do you really need to ask that in a day and age where everybody's feelings are hurt/triggered by literally anything and we have safe spaces all over the place?

These people need to be punished. | ICBC doesnt handle it. I asked them before and they said if someone was gonna handle it, it would be the police but they dont for obvious reasons(too lazy)
Theres too much grey area for people who "didnt know they cross into the other lane" or "didnt know there car was rolling backwards". and with theses new crazy insurance rules where theres basically zero lenience, i expect more lieing.
