VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – ICBC is giving out one-time rebate cheques averaging about $190 to people who had car insurance last year.

“This will affect all of those who had policies between April 1 and Sept. 30 last year,” said Premier John Horgan.

Horgan says the public insurer has about $600 million in savings, due to fewer crashes leading to lower claim costs. The province says a higher-than-expected income was “partly offset” by decreased revenue due to lapsed and cancelled policies.

Horgan says the “cheques will be in the mail soon,” but you won’t see them for several weeks.

“The cheques won’t be issued until the beginning to the mid of March,” Horgan said. “But we wanted to make absolutely sure that we were keeping ICBC on sound financial footing, as we build the new, enhanced care model that we’ve been working on for the past three years.”

ICBC and BCAA renewal notice came with a $359 annual savings. My renewal period starts May 1 so it should be a full 12 months of the lower rate

2020: $2,146 (ICBC: 1,227 BCAA: $919)

2021: $1,787 (ICBC: 1,051 BCAA: $736)

no sign of an ICBC rebate cheque though

Teriyaki 03-27-2021 01:59 PM

That's relative info for me thanks.

We are paying just under 1800 for one car and ~2400 for the second one with ICBC basic BCAA optional. Maybe I can save $500 this renewal.

Doubl3_H 04-13-2021 02:33 PM

$660

320icar 04-13-2021 05:01 PM

Edit: I should add we both just own/insure a single vehicle (2017+)

The Producer 04-13-2021 05:08 PM

I'd have to really dig to see what i paid in total last year though, so i have no idea what it really means

jing 04-13-2021 09:26 PM

Keep in mind if you have multiple policies under your name, they are coming on one single cheque.

I've yet to get mine.... still waiting and hope I'm not a $1er.

cdizzle_996 04-14-2021 10:50 AM

Wife got $216 back yesterday. When I insured my C63 last week my rate is $239/month, dropping to $171/month in May which is nice..

This cheque is different IIRC. This is the dividends payout, not the rate drop and refund

GIZZ 04-14-2021 06:23 PM

I got $279 back for probably 26 months of insurance on a full size suv, a sedan, coupe, hatchback and sportbike.

TypeRNammer 04-14-2021 06:40 PM

I got about $538 from two active policies

Peturbo 04-16-2021 04:20 PM

Wow you guys are getting a lot. Only $178 here
