Wet sanded then polished, then coated. The finish doesn't have to be perfect because once you coat it it'll fill in all the fine scratches

Looks great, what kind of clear coat did you use?

Hey quit giving hondaracer reasons to DIY, i want to see where this icbc karen story unfolds :drunk:

Hondaracer 02-01-2024 09:32 AM

Full blown Karen

A 1 minute email -“hey icbc I’m not happy with this repair”

Omg!

Btw, people thinking this is me looking for a “handout” my car now has 14k in claims on it, all of which were not my fault which happened while the car was parked. So me looking for a “handout” in a $1500 headlight doesn’t even make a dent in the net value/my personal net worth decrease I’ve seen through insurance claims and bozos hitting my car.

I don’t even care about that however, I only care about the appearance because it bugs my OCD seeing one brand new headlight, and one clouded/yellow one.

Wow~ Didn't know you have an NC! Brings back memories!

The NC bumper isn't super difficult to remove. Of course it'll still take time, but none of the work is aggravating like they are when you try to work on Euro cars lol~

I bought it to transition myself from FWD to RWD. Didn't happen, I still drive my cars like a FWD and my lines are funny. The M3 makes up the deficient though.

My NC was a bit of a freak because for something with just a tune, it was faster than Mitch's FBO in a straight line.

It has to come off because the headlights sit behind the bumper cover, so to do a proper job it means the cover comes off so I can get the headlight off. It was mostly just a lot of fasteners and screws, but 4 of them are DEEP behind the bumper and having to reach in from the wheel well was not fun.

I used spar urethane mixed with mineral spirits so it's not as thick and easier to apply. I used a paper towel to rub it on and just let it dry and applied a second and third coat. I don't have the car anymore but my friend bought it. He said the headlights are still good after all these years. The refinish was done back in 2017.

Looking back I actually didn't polish. I just finished with 2500 grit and let the urethane fill in the remaining fine sanding marks.

Looks better with the bumper off than that stupid ass smiley face. That’s the only thing I hate on the nc1. Nc2 looks much better and has that crazy high redline too

The NC2 had the maniac gaping grin though, and that makes the car look like it's high on something LOL~

The NC3 has the nicest looking front end for the generation.

Badhobz 02-01-2024 02:03 PM

yes thats the one i was thinking of, i must have thought that nc2 was the nc3.

EvoFire 02-01-2024 02:25 PM

NC3 are really rare cause NC ran for 10 model years and NC3 was only around for 2, and when it came around most ppl that wanted an NC already got one.

e36 insurance reup - down over 100 bucks from last year. ($1220 all in)

driver factor improved slightly - i guess just time. It doesn't tell me what the low mileage discount actually is - but it's on there.

Annual debate about getting collector plates. I'd have to pull some of the parts that I really enjoy about the car, so for now it stays as is.

68style 02-06-2024 08:45 AM

They're pretty loosey goosey with what they approve these days, worth a shot with what you got on there unless it's a stereo?

Free to apply minus the photo printing and mailing in of photos.

The Producer 02-06-2024 09:04 AM

^^ we're going to try my wife's z3 this spring to get a feel for the process.

JDMDreams 02-06-2024 09:17 AM

Has anyone just vinyl wrapped their headlights after? Shouldn't that offer more protection cuz it's no longer exposed to the elements + air and the film should block uv?

Badhobz 02-06-2024 09:24 AM

my wrapworkz guy told me to do that with my headlights, he says it'll protect it from chips and yellowing. He also wanted 250 bucks for 2 headlights and i was like uhhhhh to cut a tiny piece of clear film!? :suspicious:

mikemhg 02-16-2024 10:15 AM

Jesus Christ I got ass fucked on my new car's premiums by ICBC. Went from an equivalent in cost vehicle to my prior, $500 annual increase in premiums on a 2024 Mazda 3 Turbo AWD.

Apparently this is all a result of their premium renewal increases this year? Seriously?

https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2024/0...24-rebate-110/

The insurance corporation says its 3.6 million policyholders will begin to receive a $110 rebate at the end of May.

ICBC says all eligible commercial and personal policyholders who had an active policy in February of this year will receive the rebate. Eligible policyholders do not need to apply for the rebate.

Additionally, basic rates will be maintained until March 31, 2026

fliptuner 05-09-2024 02:01 AM

I hope that's per policy. I'm sure a lot of us have multiple vehicles insured.

I just reinsured the daily ('06 350z) last night, no chances to the policy, location or driver and it was $26 more, so I guess it's an $85 rebate for me.

JDMDreams 05-09-2024 08:00 AM

It's still more expensive, only the base rate is the same, so unless you buy 0 coverage it's still more expensive and finance rate is like 10% now

ssjGoku69 05-09-2024 11:03 AM

How timely that the next provincial election will be in October of this year.

JDMDreams 05-09-2024 11:18 AM

My vote costs more than $110

AstulzerRZD 05-09-2024 12:16 PM

tbh we still have cheap insurance.

I paid double when I moved to Ontario under their private insurance & I'm uninsurable in Alberta (no comp / collision for me because of a cell phone ticket)

Living elsewhere's made me v appreciative of ICBC

JDMDreams 05-09-2024 12:40 PM

Try Saskatchewan? I heard that was cheap

I've always dreamed of living out my frozen dreams in a cornfield

More likely to insure via Montana LLC for whatever I buy next: https://www.autoblog.com/2022/08/07/...ion-tax-dodge/
