So yeah, except for Samsungs.. don't buy a Samsung LUL

i also use a HONOR P series , and LG G3, and Ximaio and Oppo. Same issue with the battery.

The only phone that doens't have the battery issue is my Sony from years ago. Even 1+ have the battery drain issue after a year.

Is not the issue with the phone is how iOS Vs android how they handle standby time. With every iPhone I use if I go to sleep and wake up the phone only use 2 to 3% of battery. For me I don't use the phone a lot at work so is mostly on standby so having a phone with good battery life while it is on standby is more important than having a huge battery but sucks battery life up. I only made the switch coz iPhone got rip off the headphone jack.

I have a 6, not even a 6S.. after getting the $30 battery swap, i feel like i could go at least another 2 years on this phone.

^till the os slows down your phone making u upgrade lol

Edison_Chen 09-13-2018 09:11 AM

I’m in a similar boat too. I have 6s and I’ve past the 3 year mark and the only problem was that I had to replaced the battery once. It has a crappy battery but other than that it works pretty well. I’ve noticing its starting to lag a bit when I’m trying hit the backspace/delete button to correct my spelling as I type this message. It does everything else well for a 3 year phone.

I’m thinking of upgrading at the end of the year to Samsung Note9 or upgrading to a Xs max. I want another which will be reliability for the next few years..

Hondaracer 09-13-2018 09:20 AM

Imo spending big money on somthing you use multiple hours every day for a year isn’t that far fetched..but 2k is a little much.

Remember the iphone that completely lost its wireless connection when you touched the sides of it? EleGiggle

Then they started selling that rubber bumper to prevent skin from blocking the antenna, for people who insist on holding it "wrong" LUL

The OS doesn't slow down the phone, its generally everything else.

Sometimes when you have an older phone it may be beneficial to not update the OS or Apps.

While iOS have updates for older devices to help with security etc the newer features will use more power along with new apps that take advantage of this. leaving it on an older os and turning off app updates can prolong the life of the device.

That said I've been running iOS 12 developers beta on my 6s plus and its been smoother than iOS 11

Nabatron 09-13-2018 09:41 AM

2k plus apple care or the newer apple car plus u will be well over 2k when you buy that

!LittleDragon 09-13-2018 10:51 AM

For shits and giggles, I managed to squeeze 4 days out of my P20 Pro. I didn't do anything won't normally do. Just used it for light browsing, emails, phone calls, texts. I don't expect it to do that after a year but it's still really impressive.

My S7 was great, so I sold it to a friend and upgraded to the S8. My S8 was great, so I upgraded to the S9. The S9 is great, yada, yada, yada.

We have a bunch of Apple users in my company who love their Iphones. But my complaint was that they were pricing themselves out of corporate budgets. I can't see spending company money on upgrading to the new Apples, even with our huge discounts.

Ugh.
Apple.....

Acura604 09-13-2018 11:51 AM

meh....i'm going back to iOS... its not because i'm an apple fanboy... just that with the crazy strict distracted driving laws...the acura has SIRI integration but no google...and its soooo damn convenient to just long press a button on the steering wheel and tell the phone what to do. ip7 or 8 most likely but gotta be a plus.

It's not like the early days when the hardware wasn't great. I was upgrading my old Windows Mobile and Android phones every year. I managed to squeeze almost 5 years out of my Lumia 1020 before finally swapping to a P20 Pro a few months ago and I plan to use it til it's no good for anything.

If it lasts me 5 years then I have no issues spending that much on a new phone.

True. I will use my Mate 9 until it lags so bad like my Galaxy S5.

I don't play intense mobile games, so it should last me a while.

inv4zn 09-13-2018 12:27 PM

Just because nobody's said it, the naming scheme is just as ridiculous as the prices.

Who the fuck approved the "XS Max"

iphones have had issues for sure, but they've never been so bad they considered the entire model a failure and just basically abandoned them..

MarkyMark 09-13-2018 12:38 PM

Yeah it sounds like a name HTC would use on one of their phones that won't sell.

most flagship phones are gonna be great if you only keep them a year.. it's whether or not they can go 2-3 years with minimal issues.

That's because in Apple's eyes, their product is perfect and it's the user's fault if something is wrong with it.

As ^ said, that's purely a matter of perspective and how to spin it.

I can just as easily say Samsung owned up to their mistake, recalled everything, and tried again - whereas Apple just said whatever, your fault. Granted bad reception isn't as catastrophic as exploding cellphones, but the philosophy is relatable.

!LittleDragon 09-13-2018 03:03 PM

Funny thing is there are a lot of exploding Apple devices if you're actively searching the news for them. Recently an iPad exploded in a Apple store... somehow these events aren't front page news. Apple usually cites user error

Every time I've had to use someones iPhone for something I feel like I just went backwards several years. Do they even have proper widgets yet? I get that a lot of people like the simpler interface but generally the simpler device is a cheaper option, not the most expensive.

twitchyzero 09-13-2018 05:53 PM

^ don't really care for widgets but it's there...the biggest shock for me was that notifications can't be grouped...but that's changing on Monday

everyone will say iPhone is more user-friendly/intuitive...it definitely isn't...but it's getting better. I will agree that the X feels a lot more premium than say a Sony or Google (as it should be being that it's drastically more $)

yep I've been articles saying to try iOS 12 on your old device before buying a new one

it's supposed to be a gamechanger for the 6/6S that are starting to lag

make sure you turn off battery throttling if you haven't already

what will you be doing with the XR that can't run as well on the X? definitely try both but a X with apple care is probably still the better choice (still no word if adjustable DoF is coming to the X via upgrade)

you'll get faster FaceID and better battery...but I have to try pretty hard to get battery under <50% even after a long day

I have to agree with the sentiment that the 'affordable' iPhone at $1049 is a bloody insult... <1080p in a late 2018 phone?! same pixel density as its $500-600 predecessors (5c in 2013 and SE in 2016)

have you tried hey google or hey siri? don't need to press any buttons..there is like a slight one to two second delay though on my pioneer carplay ui

The one good thing to come from that Apple presentation LUL

Quote:

That was too much for internet user Subao Brother, who took to Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, on Thursday to vent his spleen.

“Starting with me, let’s boycott Apple,” he wrote. “To have Hong Kong and Taiwan listed as countries without any indication of them being part of China. We cannot stand for this!”

Neither the slide used in the presentation nor Schiller referred to the markets as countries.

This may be a surprise but I had an iPhone 7+ then went to iPhone X for a bit but due to my car accident and the fact I wasn't getting a pay out for a while I know I needed some cash, so I sold the x and went with a 6s plus that I still had from before.

I know the x with applecare+ will do me pretty well as I have used it in the past but its the form factor of the Xr that gets me. Just a bit bigger in my hand to me, is a bit better. When using the X I felt it was a bit small. Not the screen mind you just the overall shape was smaller than I liked.

Most widgets are useless, but I really like having a weather widget with my clock
