I don't know if glass is glass
I find the $1-2 ones chips very easily with the slightest lift
whereas a $40 one from Germany saved my phone when I closed a car door on it...a CAR. DOOR.
currently using a $20 one with 100% screen coverage ..has a few hairline scratches on it but seems to do the job
I admittedly splurged on a $60 case made of kevlar...the fit beats anything I've tried and its super minimalistic/light and has already protected against serveral drops...seems like a no-brainer insurance when you're handling a high-end device

Another advantage of not using a $1000 phone, don't need to spend another $200 to protect it |

They keep making the screens tougher and tougher, shouldn't you need a protector less now than ever? Quote:

Also another thing with apple using a lightning connector instead of changing it to usb c is that apple doesn't make money on usb c connectors but on lightning ones that's a different story. They aren't a trillion dollar company for no reason. They can charge companies fees for them to make workable lightning cables. Also another reason why they got rid of the headphone jack is because they were not making money on it. Now with a 3.5 dongle which wont be in the new iphone boxes they can charge another $10 or whatever it is if you want one.

Another reason is the USB-C port is bigger than the lightning port, not by a lot but it matters.
Unlike Android phones, iPhone's have a long shelf life (battery life dependant obviously which can be replaced). The iPhone 5s which was released 5 years ago is getting iOS 12 and by all accounts of people who have installed the beta with the 5s it works great.
Lightning connectors were introduced in 2012 (iPhone 5), USB-C was finalized as a standard in late 2014(it took a while after before it was even adopted mainstream).
As for getting rid of the dongle, well just look at how popular AirPods have become.

but this has to be some of the most blatant fanboy post I've read in a while
while I give them credit for providing a smaller, reversible connector to the market first, it is inferior in every other way
Lightning, true to the Apple motif, is anti-consumer af. Remember for a while the authentication chip (now cracked) forced everyone to use their crappy cables that still break downs easily from daily wear-tear...nice little side hustle along with the dongles
480Mbps vs 40Gbps (4k daisy chaining or 8k bandwidth)...there's a reason why even MacBooks made in the last few years don't even bother with Lightning
Apple had no problem alienating everyone on the old 30-pin over 9 years worth of their product line...or just about everyone who owns an audio device with 3.5mm headphone jack
true, 5s is likely given a new lease on life with ios12, but let's not pretend for a whole year or 3 it was not exactly a usable device with battery gate

I feel like a lot of the money spent on an Apple product is for their customer service.
When I had an iPhone 5, one day(about a couple of month after the initial purchase) the volume up just randomly gave up the ghost. Went to Apple Store and they let me exchange it on the spot.
Went home, and I noticed the replacement had the bottom of the screen glitching when I was charging it. Went back again, and they couldn't replicate it on spot, but they still gave me a replacement with no questions asked. The second replacement worked alright.
That was a few years ago. Not sure how good they are nowadays since I haven't bought an Apple product for a while.
Just recently, my roommate's Zen phone broke down one day(screen just wouldn't turn on). He had a crack in the corner from dropping, but that hardly explains the problem since it happened a few months ago and the phone worked just fine. Asus basically took him on a ride and tried to say he is not in the warranty period despite the fact that he is(the phone call was priceless; I was with him in the car when he made the call). They later made a false promise about fixing it without charge and ended up asking him for a sum greater than what the phone is worth. Needless to say, he isn't buying another one from Asus.

What the normal standard of coverage is unheard of from any other vendor. Apple's service and replacement on the spot is legit.
I do have to give them credit for that.

things must have changed because it seems they're now about reducing waste/saving costs, they would attempt repair before replacement
one of the front mics went after 2 mos and I could no longer summon Siri, so they replaced the entire front panel with the OLED (would've been $369 if no warranty/applecare)
so yeah, get apple care or a good screen protector
all in all i'm still very satisfied with the service...I wish the whole genius bar appointment booking is more straight forward though..and even with appt you may be waiting longer than the estimated time they give you when you arrive

I also remembered, when I had my iPhone 5 replacement, I had already jailbroken it. Un-jailbroke it and they accepted the return. Does Apple check if you have jailbroken nowadays or you can just roll back when you have some hardware problems?
Can't remember if I had Apple Care; I don't think I did.

USB-C is better than lightning in almost all aspects but like I said, it came out two years later than lightning. Apple wanted something to further their iPhone line-up (ie. a thin cable, reversible connector) they didn't want to wait on the USB committee to agree on a standard. Making lightning obsolete after only 5 years doesn't look good on their current customers. Also Apple played a large role in the creation of USB-C, they're all for it.
I can see what they're going to do, probably wait another 3-4 years and see if they can just make the iPhone port free lol.

The Apple Watch is proof to Apple that a port-less device is doable. Quote:

i want one day where I dont have to walk around with keys, wallet, or a phone...one wristwatch to rule them all

A few years ago I borrowed my mom's iPad 2. Dropped it and shattered it. Took it to the Apple Store to see how much to repair it.
They didn't charge me a cent. I was mind blown. Said it was a "one time free repair".
Walked out with a brand new iPad 2 the same day. Restored it from backup and my mom never noticed.
Since then I've had countless good experiences with Apple. Often times if there is a defect they replace it for free, no questions asked. They don't ask you a billion questions meant to disqualify you from coverage.
Based purely on specs vs. cost, Android and Microsoft blows Apple out of the water almost every day. That I won't deny. But as for day-to-day useability and customer support, Apple can't be beat.
I couldn't care less about how many cores a processor has, clock speed, RAM, etc. As long as it runs smoothly, I'm happy. I see computers, phones, tech, etc. the way 95% of people see cars. Just appliances. Hence Apple.
