Canadian Rally Championship: Merritt Stage this weekend
Anyone going to head up to Merritt this weekend to spectate the CRC Pacific Forest Rally? I went out last year and had a blast. Was cold as fuck, and not that much action happens but it’s nice getting some fresh air and have some shop talk.
If anyone’s going up Saturday feel free to send me a PM. Maybe we can convoy etc
Tips from last year: bring some small folding chairs, blankets, some drinks and snacks or picnic. And bring friends. There’s a lot of waiting between safety cars etc, so it’s always nice to have good friends to share a hot chocolate with
Bring good wind protection to Spius if you go, it was painfully windy there last year. Or just hide in your car between passes like we did.
I'll be there for Comstock and possibly Spius depending on the weather, Comstock you get to be very close to the action which I love. I wish I could see Helmer as apparently there's a jump this year but I don't think I'll be able to make it. Some years it's quiet on the action front, some years I've seen a stage truck post-roll still going hard with no windows left or a VW completely missing a back wheel that a tree stump had stolen during a fast corner.

I'll be going up to shoot photos again. Last year was brutal for cold/wind but it was mostly because they didn't time it well and everyone had to wait almost 2 hours for the start of the Spius leg
We decided to leave after the 1st and 2nd stages. What a beautiful day, definitely got quite the sunburn. The group this year felt smaller. The white fiesta is just a fucking bullet
Yeah last year we booked a chalet for a few days. Us car guys did rally and the others went skiing. Fuckin almost froze my toes off. The hot tub was amazing and a girl passing out while standing almost gave herself a coup de grâce against the coffee table.
While our website issues get sorted out, please see here for the spectator locations. The locations are the same as last year. The Black Forest spectator point will be active from about 3 PM Saturday for four passes of competitors and the Gem Lake spectator point (the closest to the ski resort) will be active from about 7 AM on Sunday. Access will be restricted to the Sunday spectator point after about 7:20 AM.
We got up there late but thanks to some drunk dickheads who ignored the marshals we didn't miss much. I spotted 320icar's RS on the walk in which was pretty sweet.

It was a good weekend. Wish it was snowier though. Sunday morning we got to the spectator spot at like 6:45am and the control worker said that we’d be in lock down til about 4pm (the road to spectator parking is part of the course, so once you’re in you can’t leave because the course is hot). Any other CRC event like this I’ve gone to it’s usually 3 hours and you move on. My wife made the executive decision to go home and not be stuck in the snow for 9 hours. So my other friends stayed to watch

Unique to that particular stage, because they were doing out-and-back, followed by out-and-back and wanted to be sure there were no delays between the two.
