I just realized DDE cars look like clown cars.

So it only makes sense they're driven by clowns.

JDMDreams 03-08-2019 06:18 PM

^^^ I don't follow them but they seem better than the M&M design super car only imaginable we had a few years back

J.C 03-08-2019 08:14 PM

I got pulled over by the VPD traffic unit years back in a stanced car with alot of camber for speeding. They were really professional, polite, and sent me on my way after giving me my ticket. Made no mention on any of my mods despite it totally deserving a VI. Times have changed.

yourself 03-08-2019 10:48 PM

I believe it is a new batch of officers doing this.

Cains a sergeant now I believe. He is the boss of constables now, so it's likely they follow his directive.

Woot~! And it's already here!

Thank you, BIC_BAWS for your resilience and perseverance for continuing to push on the issue, and thank you, Eddie Clark, for willing to step up and bring the story to light.

The numbers speak for itself:

The crackdown isn’t just an observation. According to the Vancouver Police Department’s own numbers, there has been a spike in overall inspection notices.

...

The VPD has not returned multiple requests for an interview as of publishing the story.
Feels a bit like we have achieved a small victory (albeit a really small one) as I was reading that bolded line...

GabAlmighty 03-11-2019 12:45 PM

I like the article, sticks to the facts, shows some numbers. A mention of stock vehicles being inspected and passing would have been nice, but overall I think it's a very good start!

sporadicMotion 03-11-2019 01:00 PM

Glad somebody posted this.

We did talk about the stock cars getting pulled over and given VI notices. Hopefully that part makes it into the video.

AstulzerRZD 03-11-2019 01:04 PM

Wonder if dealership service advisors would be interested in passing reporter's info to owners of stock cars who have gotten VIs. Noticed that a few posts in this thread mentioned the dealers said a lot of stock M/AMG/SVR cars were coming in.

"Sorry to hear you got a VI. Man... sucks that you got screwed. I know there's a reporter who's been working on getting this fixed, you might want to get in contact with them" etc.

I'm more interested in seeing the comments made in relation to the article (like FB comments or whatever) just as a gauge of the public's reaction to the story.

Traum 03-11-2019 01:23 PM

Just skimmed through CTV Vancouver's FB page:

https://www.facebook.com/ctvbcnews/

and I guess the story hasn't been published on their FB feed yet. But I'd be interested to see the public's reaction to the story as well. I'm leaning towards that:

1) it wouldn't generate too much interest
2) there wouldn't be too much sympathy from the general public

The web article looks to have been shared around 450 times in the last 1.5 hours. That's just based on the social media links at the bottom of the article

Traum 03-11-2019 01:53 PM

Here is the Twitter feed though (along with some comments):

One thing, that is useful from this article - is publicity and statistics.

Statistics shows that there is a problem indeed, so i would not go and discuss this particular guy. Because we were not sure if we are not over-paranoid. Do not look to me anymore...

bomberR17 03-11-2019 02:26 PM

Reading the comments, there isn't much sympathy.

Shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone

BIC_BAWS 03-11-2019 02:56 PM

CTV has told me that the thread will be updated as the day goes on. I'm not quite sure with what.

There are things that we have noted on this thread that have not been noted in the article. The article is short and sticks to facts because while we know of something, it cannot be proven. However, this is a small win, our voices are being heard.

I want to take this further to Jalopnik as suggested by other members. But first I need to finish this document. Post #1 will be updated shortly with a TL;DR of everything that has happened.

For those of you watching this thread as guests, know that many members here have written legitimate complaints to MLA, appropriate Gov Officials, the VPD and have gotten traction. If you want something to come out of this, the VPD has stated that they will look into it if there are more complaints. That being said, please be mature and objective in your complaints. All of our legitimate complaints will not be considered if there is one immature, nonsensical complaint.

snowball 03-11-2019 03:03 PM

I don't think there's enough for Jalopnik interest yet, two things need to be focused on if this story wants any attention on there:

1) the number of unwarranted VIs given to stock/legal vehicles; and/or
2) the backstory of doxxing incident which most of us want to avoid talking about, but the online community would be most interested in

The accused has reached out to me personally. I have intentions on updating the thread with accurate information regarding the situation.

tegra7 03-11-2019 03:11 PM

^Didn’t a Maserati owner on here get a vi for stock exhaust being too loud?

68style 03-11-2019 03:16 PM

Yes but he didn’t want to be included

bcedhk 03-11-2019 03:32 PM

Nice work on this. I am surprise the VPD has not responded to the 'numerous' attempts by CTV, you would think if this was a simple case they would just basically send their PR person to make a quick comment saying it is standard procedure and within protocol.

Did they say whether or not they attempted to contact Cain for comments too?

I would take Reddit with a grain of salt though. that subreddit is known to have a lot of salty people who are anti-car and easily jealous of people with money and expensive possessions.
